“Of course it is, Blaine,” said Kurt cheerfully.

“Thanks again, guys,” said Blaine as he sat down next to Kurt.

“So Blaine,” inquired Rachel, “Are you going to introduce us?”

“Oh yeah! Of course,” said Blaine excitedly. “Jermaine, this is Rachel, Mercedes, Tina, and Kurt.”

I Know who Kurt is, Blaine, he’s the guy you’ve been crushing on, and breaking my heart for, for a yearJermaine thought.

“Guys, this is my boyfriend Jermaine,” continued Blaine in a quieter tone.

‘See? I told you, Kurt.’

‘Shut up!’

Hearing that broke Kurt's heart; it had only been speculations, but now they’d been confirmed.

“Aww, Blaine,” cooed Rachel. “How long have you two been dating?”

“I asked him out yesterday,” said Jermaine blushing.

‘See? I did have a shot.’

‘But you had Chandler.’

‘But I don’t now.’

‘Yeah, but Blaine has Jermaine.’

“That’s nice,” said Kurt trying to smile.

He was being stupid - Blaine didn’t know about Kurt’s crush; Blaine was perfectly capable of dating whoever he wanted. Kurt and Blaine had only spoken to each other two days ago. What did Kurt expect? That Blaine would take one look at the real him, not the stereotype everyone else sees, and fall into his arms? Did Kurt think that maybe Blaine would like him back? Yes, he did, it was stupid, he knew that Blaine liked Jermaine, when he talked to him he looked so happy. If they weren’t already dating, it would have been a matter of time.

“So, Jermaine,” asked Tina, “how did you ask him out?”

“Well, I just sort of told him how I felt, how I’ve always felt,” said Jermaine looking lovingly at Blaine.

“Well, that’s really nice,” said Kurt sadness in his voice.

The bell rang to signify the start of first block. They all had AP French together.

“Hey, Kurt,” said Rachel, she’d obviously picked up on his sadness. “Can I have a quick word? It’s about the NEW routine.”

“Err sure, Rach. We’ll catch up with you guys in a minute,” said Kurt.

“Are you okay, honey? This must be upsetting you a little.”

“I’m- I’m fine, it’s so stupid. I mean did I ever really have a shot? He’s so nice and sweet, and charming,” said Kurt.

“Hmmm, I think you might have had if it wasn’t for Chandler,” said Rachel knowingly, she was surprised how well she was keeping Blaine’s little secret.

“No, Rach, I wouldn’t, Blaine's too amazing for me,” said Kurt.

“If you say so. Anyway come on, we’d better get to class,” said Rachel linking arms with Kurt.

Kurt took a deep steadying breath.

“Okay, we don’t want to be late for Madame Picotin… She’ll skin us alive,” said Kurt cracking a smile as they made their way through the sea of people.

During French Jermaine and Blaine were sitting playing footsie under the table, and holding hands, Jermaine had his hands ‘all over’ Blaine, stroking his curls out of his eyes. They looked adorable together, Kurt had to admit, but why did Jermaine have to sit and be cutesie with Blaine in front of Kurt?

“Err… excuse moi madame Est-que je peux aller aux toilettes?”

“Oui, Monsieur Hummel” said Mme Picotin

With that Kurt got up and left; he couldn’t stay and watch Jermaine fondle Blaine. It hurt too much. Sure he hardly knew Blaine, sure he’d barely said two words to the guy before Tuesday but he’d begun to care for Blaine, to notice all the little things that Blaine did.

’Kurt, just hold it together, I know how much this must hurt, but Blaine is happy - shouldn’t that make you happy if you really care about him?’

‘But I would like it if he was happy with me.’

‘Well maybe he will.’

‘Hey since when did you start siding with me? Aren’t you supposed to be telling me I don’t have a shot, and that he loves Jermaine?’

‘I tried that, you wouldn’t listen. We both got hurt and I know how persistent you are… You are KURT HUMMEL, and if you want something you will get it.’

‘Yeah, but can I ever get Blaine? He seems to really love Jermaine.’

‘Don’t give up Kurt.’

After he’d composed himself, he returned to French with a new air of determination around him - he was going to find a way to get Blaine, no matter how long he’d have to wait. He’d wait forever if he had to, deep down he knew that Blaine was worth it.
