Kurt had just unpacked the last of his bedroom; he and Rachel would finish the rest of the apartment tomorrow, when he got a phone call. The screen displayed ‘My Blaine'. Kurt had only been away from Blaine for 7 hours but he already missed him like crazy.
“Hey baby” Kurt chimed down the phone.
“Hey, Kurt, so how’s the apartment?” Said Blaine, trying to hide the fact he was inches from crying.
“Still half packed” Kurt laughed, tears in his eyes, it hurt so much to be this far away from the love of his life.
“That’s not like you! I thought you'd have fully unpacked and have everything put away by now” said Blaine picking up his guitar.
“Well, I guess I just had other things on my mind” Kurt smiled, and sits down on the bed “I miss you, already... is that pathetic”
“Nope, I’ve missed you so much too. I have a present for you”
“Oh really?”
“Yeah, I do”
Blaine set the phone on speaker and started to play the opening chords to ‘Hey There Delilah’. His voice sounded strained, sadness hidden… he did want Kurt to know, how much even the thought Kurt being in New York, and he still being in Ohio hurt him… he knew the reality would be so much worse.
What's it like in New York City?
I'm a thousand miles away
But girl, tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do
Times Square can't shine as bright as you
I swear it's true
Hey there Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice, it's my disguise
I'm by your side
Tears started to fall down Kurt’s face, this year was going to be so hard... not seeing Blaine every day, him not being there for him when he had a bad day to just snuggle on the sofa with. Blaine wouldn’t be there, Kurt needed him there, but Blaine was just a senior. There we times when Kurt just wanted to give up his fashion internship and go back to Ohio, but he knew that it would make Blaine feel bad. Blaine would just think he was keeping Kurt from his dreams.
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me
Hey there Delilah
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me, girl
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good
We'll have the life we knew we would
My word is good
Hey there Delilah
I've got so much left to say
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I'd write it all
Even more in love with me you'd fall
We'd have it all
Blaine felt like his heart would fall out his ass, he had a huge lump in his throat. This song summed up everything he wanted to say to Kurt... just so he knew Blaine would always be there. No matter how much Blaine needed him back with him in Ohio, he knew that Kurt needed to be in New York, to follow his dreams. Blaine couldn’t be the reason Kurt gave up on his dreams, short of breaking up with him, just getting on with life and praying this wasn’t going to be as hard as they thought it was going to be, was what’s best for them to do.
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
And we'll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame
Hey there Delilah
You be good and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school
And I'll be making history like I do
You'll know it's all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there Delilah here's to you
This one's for you
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me.
When the song came both boys were in tears. There was a quiet knock at the door.
“I love you so much Blaine, were going to make this work” said Kurt as he pulled the door open.
“Really?” Asked the small dark haired boy stood at the door, a guitar slung over his shoulder.
“I’ll call you back,” said Kurt into his phone, and threw his arms around Blaine.
“I love you Kurt”
“I love you too Blaine”
Kurt scooped up Blaine’s legs, and kissed him deeply and passionately.
