Kurt was still trying to come to terms with the idea of actually going on a real date with Blaine, let alone kissing him. But Blaine really did like Kurt and he was starting to realize it. Being so swept up over Blaine, he never got the chance to take the time and just look at Blaine.
He didn't notice how Blaine was quick to blush or just like in the classroom, being nervous and vulnerable. Thinking back to the classroom, it sent a warm tingling sensation of contentment throughout his body. Blaine liked Kurt and Kurt liked Blaine. They kissed and tonight they we're going out, together.
Kurt pulled into his driveway, parking and getting out as he smiled to himself. He was excited for tonight's festivities, even if he still had 3 hours to kill. But then again, in the mindset of Kurt Hummel, 3 hours was just enough to primp and get ready for Blaine.
Slipping through the door, Kurt headed straight up to his room and ridded his Dalton uniform. He was thankful the house was empty this afternoon. Finn was at football practice, Burt was at the shop like usual, and Carole didn't arrive home until later tonight. An empty house meant a free shower. So that's exactly where Kurt was headed to as he walked downstairs.
Feeling cleansed and fresh, Kurt hopped out of the shower after a mere 30 minutes. He began to make a mental check list for the rest of the evening before his date with Blaine: shower, pick out an outfit, hair, text Blaine… hold up, rewind. Pick out an outfit. Kurt froze in his tracks, his mouth gaping. "Shit. What am I going to wear?" Quickly, he wrapped a towel around his delicate, slim waist. Without a care, he flung the bathroom door open and scurried out, mumbling to himself.
"No, no, no." For some strange and bizarre reason, Kurt hadn't even planned out an outfit. Normally his outfit would have been planned days ahead but then again, his head had been in the clouds for the last week, thinking about Blaine of course. "Stupid, stupid, Kurt." He brought one hand to his face, pressing two fingers to the bridge of his nose. "I can't believe this!"
Kurt dashed up the stairs, two at a time, cursing under his breath. Once in his room, he discarded the towel and slipped on his Calvin Klein, underwear in a swift motion. Jesus, if he could get into his underwear that fast, wonder how fast he could get them off.
Abruptly, he opened his closet door and peered at his wardrobe. "No. Not today. Wrong. Wrong. What was I thinking? Ugh!" He ran his hand along various hangers, holding up his fabulous wardrobe. Well, it was fabulous any day but of course today, everything was just plain wrong or wasn't appropriate for tonight. Tonight was going to be perfect and if everything was going to go along how Kurt imagined it, he had to look the part.
He turned from his closet in agony, grunting and whining. Kurt brought his hands to his face, his palms pressing against his cheeks. If it was possible, at that exact moment, a light bulb would have appeared above Kurt's head, flashing. Frantically he dashed to the side of his bed and picked up his phone. Pressing 3 on his speed dial, he moved back over to his closet, waiting for a pick up.
"What up, boo?" Mercedes, why didn't he think of calling her in the first place? "Crisis, girl, I'm having a fashion crisis!" Again, he rummaged through his outfits, pulling out a few different choices. "Excuse me? Is it even possible for Kurt Hummel to be using the words 'fashion and crisis' in the same sentence pertaining to himself?" She was laughing, obviously that was a joke but Kurt didn't have time for Mercedes' sarcasm right now so he just ignored it.
He walked over to his mirror and held up an outfit he picked out of the closet. "I need the perfect outfit. Something that says 'I'll let you put your hands on me, in my skin tight jeans any day' and 'Do you think I'm sexy?" Kurt turned, placing the outfit on his bed, giving up in exasperation.
"Hold up. You're hooking up with someone and you didn't have the decency to tell me first?" Mercedes began to ramble, her words sounding like jumbled mash. Kurt had forgotten to inform Mercedes about his date with Blaine. Honestly it slipped his mind. "Stop running your big mouth and maybe I'll let you know what's going on."
Mercedes stopped talking instantly. "Oh hell to the nah! Don't get sassy with me!" Letting out a huff, Kurt plopped on his bed. "To make a long story short, Blaine came to his senses, I guess?" That last part came out as a question because it sort of was. Kurt wasn't sure why Blaine had randomly taken such an interest in him, but then again he wasn't complaining either.
"I'm going on the most important date of my life tonight and I have to look absolutely stunning but how is that possible when I have nothing to wear, Mercedes?" He fell backwards on his bed, half of his body lying down and his legs were left dangling off the bed. Mercedes heard Kurt huff helplessly over the phone and she smirked. "Okay, okay, calm down. Breathe, baby doll."
Kurt didn't have the energy to argue at this point so he did exactly what Mercedes told him to, he breathed. After a few long inhales and exhales, he leaned forward, hauling himself up from the bed and retreated back to his closet. As she had ESP, Mercedes began telling Kurt what to wear.
"Brown cardigan over that black and white crosshatching shirt…" Listening to Mercedes, Kurt searched through his closet for his cardigan. "With a plain black tie, Windsor knot preferably…" Snatching the tie, he threw it over on his bed with his cardigan. "And slip on those skin tight white jeans you bought from Diesel last week, they make your ass look phenomenal." Laughing, he went to through his drawer and fetched his Diesel's. "Then top it all off with a nice pair of black Kenneth Cole dress shoes and you're set."
Walking back over to his bed, he looked at what she had picked out for him. "You don't need to say anything, I know I'm fabulous." He smiled, exhaling deeply through the phone that Mercedes took as a sigh of relief. "When did you get so good, Mercedes?" If Kurt was with Mercedes right now, he'd give her the biggest bear hug that would cut her circulation off from him squeezing so tight.
"Honey, I did learn from you. Now get dressed, go on that date with Blaine and you better call me when you get back tonight. I want all the juicy details!" Kurt let out a brief laugh, smiling to himself. He didn't know what he would do without his Mercedes. "Of course I will. Thanks, boo. Love ya."
Kurt pressed the end button on his phone, when his phone vibrated in his hand. One new message read across the screen. Curiously, he opened the new message and read it. "Are you as nervous as I am? -Blaine,xo." So Blaine was nervous too, just like Kurt. Knowing he wasn't the only one made Kurt feel like he wasn't alone.
"Like you wouldn't believe. -Kurt,xox." Kurt's reply was anything but a lie. If he was being honest, he didn't think he could get through this date in one solid piece. He was nervous he would screw everything up either by blushing furiously or saying something stupid. Mostly, he was afraid he would embarrass himself in front of Blaine.
Kurt threw on the outfit Mercedes had chosen for him and styled his hair in perfect time. He shocked himself at how fast he got ready. Checking the time, Kurt plowed downstairs to grab a quick snack with 10 minutes left to spare. He was sort of hungry, but he wasn't sure if he should or shouldn't eat. What if Blaine was taking him out to dinner? Kurt wasn't clear on what exactly this date entailed.
Digging through the refrigerator, Kurt heard the front door open. In slumped a tired Burt Hummel, who called out. "Anyone home?" Kurt grabbed an apple and closed the refrigerator, answering his father. "In the kitchen." Leaning against the counter, Kurt took a bite out of his apple as Burt entered the thresh hold of the kitchen.
"Hey kiddo, what cha up to?" Burt b-lined to the refrigerator, grabbing a water bottle out of it, and took a seat at the kitchen table. "Nothing much really, waiting for Blaine to pick me for our date." Unfortunately as Kurt said this, his father was in the middle of taking a swig from the water bottle. His father's reaction was priceless. Burt's eyes grew big as he pried his mouth from the water bottle, spitting whatever water he had in his mouth out and on the table.
Kurt wanted to laugh so bad it hurt so he took another bite out of his apple in an attempt to keep his mouth shut. Burt wiped his mouth with his sleeve and looked over at his son in disbelief. "Excuse me? Run that by me again." Kurt knew this wasn't the time to become sarcastic or turn this into a laughing matter; he had to tell his dad eventually what he was doing tonight.
Placing his almost finished apple on the table, Kurt looked over at his father, his eyes pleading with sympathy. "Don't be mad, please? Blaine asked me out and I couldn't say no. And I think you know as well as I do that I wasn't going to turn him down." Burt looked Kurt over, nodding slightly. It was pretty obvious that Kurt liked Blaine.
Just then, Kurt's phone that was set on the table, vibrated. Both Kurt and Burt's eyes averted to the phone at the sound. Kurt picked the phone off the table to see one new message from Blaine. "I'm like 2 minutes away. I know I'm early, but… do you want me to park and wait or…" Kurt smiled even though he saw his father watching him carefully out of the corner of his eye. Slowly, he lifted his head up to make eye contact with his father. "Blaine's almost here. I should go outside and wait. I won't be back late."
As Kurt stood from the table, Burt stirred from his seat. "Invite him in first, will ya?" Confound, Kurt tilted his head to the side, eyes still on his father. Why did he want Blaine to come inside? Burt shrugged, knowing that would throw Kurt off. "Isn't that how it's supposed to go, the whole first date thing?" Oh god. No. Burt was right. It was only proper.
"Um, yeah. Give me a second." Kurt picked up his phone again and dialed Blaine's number. Blaine was most likely already parked outside his house anyway, so there was no use trying to dodge the situation. Before giving Blaine a chance to even say hello, he began to speak. "Hey, can you come inside for a second?" Blaine agreed of course, why wouldn't he? Hanging up the phone, Kurt stared at Burt.
"I'm going to get my things. If you want you can answer the door?" Kurt was still confused as to why his father wanted Blaine come inside. Burt would probably lay down the line and scare Blaine because that's what Burt would do. Coming to this realization, Kurt moved closer to Burt. "Don't scare him away, okay? This means a lot to me." And Burt could tell that this did mean a lot to him, Blaine meant a lot to him.
Kurt then wrapped his arms around his father, hugging him tightly. "I won't, kiddo." Like clockwork, the doorbell rang. Pulling apart from his father, Kurt skedaddled upstairs to retrieve his messenger bag. Burt walked to the door and opened it, revealing smiling Blaine. Well, Blaine was smiling until he realized it wasn't Kurt that answered the door. Still ever so dapper and charming, Blaine greeted Burt. "Hello Mr. Hummel. Is Kurt around?"
"He's getting his things. Why don't you come on in?" Blaine nodded, keeping his cool and swiftly walked through the door. It wasn't that Blaine felt nervous around Burt really, he was more intimidated at first. Anyone who caught a glance at Burt Hummel knew he was a guy who could do some damage to you. But all in all, Burt Hummel was just a huge teddy bear.
Burt took a seat on his favorite recliner, motioning over at Blaine to take a seat on the couch. Once both were seated, Burt didn't waste any time by dodging the matter at hand. "I know my son likes you, Blaine. Hell, you can see it from a mile away." Blaine shifted on the couch, trying to hide the hugest smile that was spreading across his face from Burt's realization.
"Listen, I don't know much about how you feel about him, Blaine but like I said, he's crazy about you. I've got to look out for him though. He's got a good heart, ya know, and he only sees the best in everyone." Blaine noticed the sincerity in Burt's eyes when talking about his son. He was right about Kurt and he was only looking out for him.
Burt was a good father. He was father of the year in Blaine's eyes. From the day they met, Kurt only told Blaine how accepting and caring Burt was. Blaine only wished he had a father like Burt Hummel.
"Just don't hurt him, okay? He's been broken too many times and I'm sure you know that too." Blaine nodded in agreement before he spoke. "Sir, hurting Kurt is the last thing I want to do. I want the best for him, just like you do. He deserves the world and more. I just hope that I'm good enough for him."
Before Burt could get out his next sentence, Kurt appeared at the top of the stairs. "I hope you two are getting along." At the sound of Kurt's voice, Blaine shot up off the couch and turned to the stairs. Burt noticed Blaine and Kurt's eyes lock on to each other's in that moment. Overlooking both boys, Burt knew whatever they had together was something special. No one looked someone like that without having some genuine feeling for them.
When Kurt reached the bottom of the stairs, Blaine was there to greet him with a soft short hug and an adoring smile. "Don't have him back too late, Blaine." As both boys walked out the door, Burt swore he heard Kurt mumble something of embarrassment, like, "Dad, stop!"
