”I'm worried about Elizabeth.” Kurt said before taking a bite of his french toast. Blaine nodded in agreement. It had been a month and a half after Jace broke up with her and she wasn't opening up to anyone. Well, she opened up to her neighbor and best friend Hayden about the situation because she needed him the most at this time. She acted like the break up was nothing when she was around her friends and family, but when it was just her and Hayden, she cried openly and held her and comforted her.
”I'm really happy that Hayden's there for her, but I really want her to come to us and talk about it. We're her parents. She should know that she can come to us about anything.” Kurt said before stuffing a strawberry in his mouth.
Blaine reached out and took Kurt's hand. “She'll come for us when she's ready. For now, all we can do is be there for her.” he said. Kurt sighed and nodded before going back to eating. They had a lot to do that day. Not only did they have an appointment for Kurt, they had to get the cake and decorations for Dakota's 9th birthday party. He was having a superhero themed party (Blaine tried getting him to do DC characters because he thought they were better, but Dakota wanted Avengers because he liked Iron Man a lot) and they had a lot on their list to get. Luckily the doctor's appointment was at 8 and they had an hour to themselves before they had to be there. Blaine decided to kill that time by taking his husband out to breakfast. And that ended up being a good decision on his part because Kurt was hungry. While they were there, he managed to eat an entire stack of french toast, a fruit cup, Blaine's rye toast, some hash browns, and some sausage. Right now he was working on his 3rd glass of water because he needed to have a full bladder for his doctor's appointment. When Kurt had finished the 3rd glass, the waitress came round with the check. Blaine took it and paid before they left.
”So Kurt, you're now 10 weeks and your baby is the size of a kumquat.” the OB nurse told them. She moved the wand around Kurt's bump some more before pressing a button. “And there's the heartbeat.”
Hearing the heartbeat for the first time for each pregnancy had been emotional for the husbands. This time was no different. They were both teary-eyed, Kurt the most, and reaching over to wipe each other's tears away because that's what they did. The nurse smiled and handed them both tissues to wipe away the happy tears and to blow their noses.
”Your due date is May 27th." the nurse said. "Ill go get your doctor. It should only be a few minutes." She then got up and left the room. When the door closed, Kurt leaned back. "I cant believe my due dates near Elizabeths. What the hell are we going to do?" he asked as he started panicking.
"Baby, love, calm down. Everything will be fine." Blaine said. He placed his hands on Kurts cheeks and kissed his forehead. The doctor came in, checked the baby, asked and answered the necessary questions before sending the couple on their way to the party store.
After they picked up the necessary items they needed for the party, Kurt and Blaine headed home. Thankfully, Kurt had everything made, including the cake, so when they got home, he headed upstairs to take a quick nap before the guests arrived. Blaine carried the bags inside and recruited help from Tracy and Lennox to get the decorations up while Elizabeth was sent out to grab something to add to Dakotas gift.
Kurt came downstars 15 minutes before the guests were expected to arrive. Well, all but one. Jonas, Dakotas best friend, had come early because he wanted to play with Dakota for a bit.
"Papa, look! Jonas got me flowers!" Dakota said, holding up the flowers Blaine had put in a vase so they would stay fresher longer. Kurt smiled and leaned down to kiss the top of Dakotas head before smelling the flowers.
"They smell wonderful. Ill find a spot for them so they can get the right amount of sunlight." Kurt said. He took the vase from Dakota and set them back on the table. He didnt want to place it in the spot just yet in case they were knocked over. Then Kurt got the food out and set up before going to check on Blaine in the back yard.
Right on time, the guests began to arrive. Dakota greeted them at the door and Jonas led them to the gift pile and then led any kids to the little circle they had started forming under the tree in the back yard. While they played their own little games such as tag and duck duck goose, the adults sat on the patio, talking about life and Lennox, Tracy, Elizabeth, and Hayden played in the pool.
The party went on without any incident and Kurt could say that it was a successful party. Right when it was about to end, Dakota and Elizabeth came up to Kurt and Blaine and blurted out the same question.
"Can Jonas spend the night?" Dakota asked.
"Can Hayden spend the night?" Elizabeth asked.
Kurt and Blaine said yes to both. They knew that Hayden and Elizabeth wouldnt do anything and thats why they were comfortable enough to allow him to spend the night before. They trusted the two and the best friends have proven themselves dozens and dozens of times ever since they became best friends.
All the guests had left except for the two boys. Jonas and Dakota migrated upstairs with Dakotas new toys while Elizabeth and Hayden migrated downstairs. Kurt, Blaine, Lennox, and Tracy cleaned up the mess before heading to bed.
Upstairs in Dakotas room, Dakota was passing Jonas a clean pair of pajamas. "I think these will fit you." he said, passing them to the taller boy. Jonas smiled and put them on. Dakota got changed as well and the two began playing with the Iron Man and Captain America action figures Burt and Carole got Dakota.
"You know, this was a good birthday." Dakota said after a while.
"Why? Is it because of all the toys you got?" Jonas asked. Dakota shook his head and fumbled with the toy in his hands.
"No." he said quietly. "Its because I got to spend more time with you." He looked up at the other boy with a blush. Dakota noticed that there was a blush forming on Jonass face as well.
Jonas smiled and yawned. "Im getting tired. Can we go to bed?" he asked. Dakota nodded. The two boys put the toys up and climbed into bed. Dakota turned his lamp off and got comfortable as he tried to go to sleep, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldnt get to sleep. So he did the only logical thing he thought of at the time. He moved closer to Jonas, wrapped an arm around him and cuddled close to him. The boys drifted off to a blissful sleep.
Down in the basement, Elizabeth and Hayden were doing a John Hughes movie marathon. They had a bowl of popcorn settled between them and they were cuddling with Haydens hand resting comfortably on Elizabeths growing tummy.
"God thats such an amazing movie." Elizabeth said as she stopped Sixteen Candles and went to put in The Breakfast Club. "I wish I had gotten the chance to see it in theaters. That would have been amazing." She sat back down and Hayden re-wrapped his arm around her.
"I do agree with you on that one, but I have to say The Breakfast Club is better." Hayden said with a teasing smile, knowing hed get a reaction out of the girl. He didnt get the reaction he was looking for, but he did laugh when she rolled her eyes.
"Whatever you say." she said before smiling up at him. She cuddled into Hayden some more and sighed. "I wish I could have a relationship like Bender and Claire." she said.
Hayden looked down at her, his eyes filled with emotion. "You will one day, Lizzie Bear. You just have to find the right person." he said as Liz looked up at him. She smiled and kissed his cheek. You just have to look harder. He could be holding you and you dont even realize hes the one. he thought. They continued watching the movie until Elizabeth fell asleep curled into Hayden. the boy smiled, kissed the top of Elizabeths head and wrapped a blanket around them before turning the movie off and falling asleep with the girl he most desperately wants to be with.
