Author's Notes: Blaine's POV

The afternoon is warm and pleasant, and lying on the grass with his new friends was definitely a great idea. Blaine's eyes are closed and he can feel the warmth of the sun caress his skin. Next to him Sam is muttering stuff like "practise later" and "missing the ocean", and Blaine agrees, but he can't summon up the energy to reply right now. Jeff and Finn are passed out beside Sam and Blaine is slowly drifting off into a haze, until he's not.

"Hey Hobbit and Malibu Ken, get up." Blaine blinks at the sun, slowly getting to his feet. Santana is standing there tapping her foot impatiently. "You promised me we could work on my song Tiny. 'This afternoon in the rehearsal rooms' and instead I find you both here on the lawn. Is this some kind of California boy thing, where you collapse in the sunlight to reload your ADD batteries or something?"

Blaine kicks Sam's foot, because the blonde has not moved an inch yet. "Sam, get up or Santana will release that inner bitch she is keeping on a leach." Sam sits up and grins, that wide smile of his lighting up his face.

"If she has an inner bitch... then who is that?"

Santana just smirks. "I'll see you boys in five, and put some fucking clothes on."

Blaine pulls on his t-shirt feeling bits of grass getting unstuck from his back in the process.

"I can come with if you like," Jeff says. He has such a crush on Santana and it's only the second day of the summer. Blaine doesn't know how to tell him that his feelings will never be reciprocated, but for now he is saved by Sam. "That's ok dude, B here is just gonna go in there and work his magic. It'll take fifteen minutes, tops. " Of course, that doesn't explain why Sam is going, but where Blaine goes, Sam goes too.

It started last year when Blaine moved to Malibu to live with his brother Cooper. Sam's mother was Cooper's maid and the two boys became instant friends. Sam took Blaine under his wing and showed him around, and then they found out that both of them loved music and within a month they were practically living in each other's rooms. Sam is his best friend and Blaine wouldn't have it any other way. Blaine understands why Sam doesn't want anyone to know his mum is a maid and he also knows how insecure Sam is about his body, even if he looks like a poster boy for a fitness magazine. Blaine secretly wishes he had Sam's abs, but the number of hours Sam spends working out is just not something Blaine can commit too. He will start doing crunches and then he gets an idea for a song, or a piece of music will come to him in the middle of push ups and before he knows it he has stepped over to the piano, and when he checks the time several hours has passed. The great thing is that Sam understands when Blaine forgets that they were supposed to hang out because he is busy playing. Mostly he'll just come over and hang out anyway, and there's plenty of stuff to do at Cooper's house.

When he moved in Blaine thought it was kind of funny how his grown up brother's house was like one giant playroom. There is a game room with a huge flatscreen and all the game consoles ever made. There is airhockey, a pool table and every movie you could think of, and some you'd rather not know existed. Cooper also has a home gym, state of the art to keep his movie star physique in tip top shape. There is a pool, a bar (that they are not supposed to touch) and now Blaine has his own music room, which Cooper soundproofed a week after he moved in, muttering something about needing his beauty sleep.

It's great having Sam around since he doesn't really see his older brother that much. Cooper is always working, gone before the sun gets up to get to the set and he comes home late, but Blaine is used to taking care of himself by now. Anything is better than home...

When they get to the rehearsal rooms they can hear Santana arguing with someone. "You do not want to mess with me I have razorblades in my hair..."

It is funny how they only met her last night and already Blaine feels like he's known her forever. Right now he can tell she is putting it on, not really angry, although she does sound like she is about to skin whoever it is alive.

Stopping in the doorway, Sam behind him, Blaine looks at the two people arguing. The guy looks pretty intimidating but Santana doesn't seem to care.

"Blaine! Tell lug-nut here why I am not, and will never be, interested in his pitiful excuse of a dick."

The guy laughs. "You're dating the midget, why didn't you just say that."

Blaine just shakes his head and Sam laughs.

"I will say this one more time," Santana begins. "Puck, focus up here. I. Do Not. Like. Dick. I will never like dick. And if I ever wanted to experiment with dick, yours would not even be on the list of possible dicks. Do. You. Understand." Puck looks stunned.

"I think you broke him," Sam laughs.

"You're a lesbian?" Puck finally gets out.

"Finally, he gets it. Now will you get out so that I can exploit these two pretty boys for my own benefit."

Puck's look reminds Blaine of a kicked puppy and he hates that. "Do you want to jam with us tomorrow?" he asks, and the tough guy immediately breaks into a smile.

After dinner they all gather on the lawn again, both Sam and Blaine have brought along their guitars and pretty soon they are playing a Katy Perry song and everyone is singing along. Sam is rapping, doing his best Snoop Dog impression and they are having fun. It's great, until a group of students walk by. One of the girls says something to the others and they all laugh, and it is not a friendly laugh.

"They really don't like us, do they," Jeff says looking after the group. "Don't pay attention to them they are just anal retentive snobs," Sam says, earning him a laugh from the rest of them. Blaine laughs automatically but his mind is stuck on a pair of haughty blue eyes. The boy from earlier that day had been in the midst of the group, laughing just as loud as everyone else, throwing his head back to expose his beautiful throat. Kurt, the name fit him, was like an orchid in a bed of roses, standing out of the crowd. Blaine had thought he was stunning when he saw him that morning, but now he felt a twinge of sadness when he looked at him. 'Why was he always attracted to assholes?' Ok, so maybe he had overreacted a little earlier, but he really didn't like it when people said mean things, he'd had enough of that in his life already.
