“It’s someone here to see you, at the door.” His father says it with a dogged expression and Kurt gives him a questioning look, but Burt only nods in the direction of the door, so Kurt walks past him.
It is when he reaches and opens it that he realizes it is Blaine standing on their front porch; black curls, leather jacket, big boots, trashy jeans and helmet in hand. He can see the bike parked by the side of the street.
“Blaine? What are you doing here?”
“I came to thank you, I guess.” He pauses. “If it wasn’t for you I’d be back at Dalton now, and I’d be screwed.”
Kurt thinks he sees something in Blaine’s eyes then, but he can’t place it and the next second Blaine turns his head out towards their garden.
“They let you go?”, Kurt asks.
“Yep.”
The silence lower itself between them and when Blaine finally meets his eyes again the cocky smirk is back.
“You haven’t fallen in love with me, have you, Hummel? Running in and rescuing me like that.”
Kurt lets out a heavy sigh and reaches for the handle to close the door. But Blaine stops him.
“No, I’m sorry. Thank you, Hummel. Really, I mean it.”
“Good.”
Kurt closes the door in front of the other boy and walks back. But when he passes the living room his father, sitting on the couch, stops him.
“Who was that?”
“Just a guy from school.”, Kurt answers.
“What did he want?”
Kurt knows the tone in his father’s voice and he sighs. “Homework. Something we’ve been working on and he missed.”
“Really? He isn’t a friend of yours?”
“No, dad. Just a guy from school.”
“Good, because he looked like… I mean, I think he-“
But Kurt walks away and doesn’t hear the end of what Burt thinks about a guy who “looks like that”.
