Before Kurt went home later that day they agreed they would drive to school together the next day. Kurt pulled into the McKinley high parking lot. As soon as they were out of the car they joined hands and walked into the school, they passed by members of the glee club who gave them encouraging smiles and thumbs up, they passed by random students who didn’t pay much attention to them and they passed by Karofsky who looked pissed off, if looks could kill Blaine would be ready for burial. But the boys were too wrapped up in each other to even notice him. They had the same first class so they were able to walk to it together, after stopping at their respective lockers, which luckily were rather close together. They never used to sit together in class, in fact Blaine normally sat alone but that was different now, Kurt led Blaine back to where all the glee kids in the class sat where he was greeted as if he had been friends with them for years. They had to let go of each other’s hand in order to take notes in class which was disappointing until Blaine hooked his foot around Kurt’s under the desk, it wasn’t nearly as good as holding hands but it was some form of contact and both boys appreciated that.
“Where’s Mr. Anderson?” the history teacher Miss Mulroney asked upon seeing Blaine’s usual seat was empty.
“I’m back here miss.” Blaine replied raising his hand.
“Why are you sitting with the glee kids?” she asked, Kurt bit his lip to prevent himself bitching her out and telling her to mind her own business.
“It’s where I belong miss.” Blaine answered. “If you’d feel more comfortable I’m sure Kurt and I can go sit at my old desk.”
“So if I insist you move back to your old seat Mr. Hummel will move with you?” she asked.
“We’re a package deal.” Kurt replied as sweetly as he could even though he really didn’t understand why they were wasting class time on this, it’s not like there was assigned seating in this class.
“Fine, but if your grades drop Mr. Anderson you’ll have to move back.”
“Yes ma’am.” Blaine agreed knowing that wouldn’t be a problem.
“What was that about?” Mercedes who was sitting next to Kurt leaned over to ask.
“It’s because whenever a student asked a question she didn’t know the answer to I always whispered the answer to her. And I can’t do that from back here.” Blaine explained quietly. Kurt looked really proud as the rest of the glee kids tried to hold in their laughter at this bit of insight into their teacher’s stupidity.
Blaine was glad when the New Directions surrounding him stopped talking and started to take notes, he liked them well enough but he still wasn’t overly comfortable around them. When he was around Kurt he felt more courageous but he still was a long way away from being a social butterfly. He looked over at Kurt who was writing down everything the teacher had written on the board, he leaned over and crossed out one of the dates Kurt had written down and wrote down the correct one. Kurt looked at the board and then back at Blaine confused.
“She has it wrong.” Blaine whispered, Kurt nodded and then made the same change on Mercedes’ notes.
“Ummm…Miss Mulroney? The text book has a different date then what you do on the board.” A girl sitting two rows in front of the glee kids said raising her hand.
“Very good! That was a test to see who has done the readings.” The teacher lied “Mr. Anderson I saw you talking to Mr. Hummel, please move to your old seat.”
Blaine reluctantly gather his belongs and moved seats, he wasn’t surprised that Kurt was doing the same, he was a bit surprised that Mercedes did as well and he was completely shocked that Santana and Puck who were sitting behind them moved as well, they had to force other students to switch seats with them but in the end they settled down in the seats behind Blaine, Kurt and Mercedes. Blaine knew the reason she wanted him to move up front was because in the past he had caught those mistakes for her and quietly corrected her before the rest of the class noticed. After that class ended Blaine walked Kurt to his next class once again passing by Karofsky and once again not noticing the way he glared at them. Blaine gave Kurt a small kiss on the cheek before walking to his own class. He was prepared to sit by his self when Tina grabbed him by the arm and led him back to where she and Mike were sitting. Blaine was happy it was these two in his class as knew they weren’t ones to talk during class, plus he knew that Tina was the same age as him but she was also in a senior level class and he thought it was nice they had that in common.
“So, we saw you and Kurt at brunch yesterday. You two are so cute together.” Tina told Blaine as they left the room once class ended.
“Oh, thanks.” Blaine blushed.
The trio entered the cafeteria where Blaine had arranged to meet Kurt, there was a limited amount of healthy/edible food available at the cafeteria so Kurt had thought it best for them to both go straight there and whoever got there first would grab enough food for the both of them. Blaine smiled seeing Kurt sitting at a table with Mercedes and Rachel but instead of being sandwiched between the two girls like he would’ve been just days earlier there was an open seat next to Kurt, Blaine knew that seat was meant for him. Blaine sat next to Kurt who silently put a plate of food in front of his boyfriend as he listened to Rachel when it became clear that she wouldn’t be finished her story any time soon Kurt held up a finger to her to indicate he wanted her to wait a moment.
“Hi.” Kurt said turning to Blaine.
“Hi.” Blaine replied before giving his boyfriend a quick peck on the lips.
“How was your class?” Kurt asked
“Good, I sat with Mike and Tina.” Blaine said gesturing to the couple who were in the lunch line trying to figure out what exactly the food being served to them was. “How was your class?”
“Boring.” Kurt shrugged.
“Aw that’s too bad.”
“It was alright; it gave me a chance to plan our next date.”
Blaine smiled, wondering what his boyfriend had up his sleeve. Kurt noticed that Rachel was about to explode so he waved his hand for her to continue her story. Blaine barely noticed when the rest of the glee club joined them at the table, he was uncomfortable suddenly being surrounded by so many people; he shifted closer to Kurt in the hopes that would help him relax.
“Are you ok?” Kurt asked softly.
“Yeah…I’m just having a slight panic attack.” Blaine whispered back.
Kurt’s eyes widened.
“I’m just going to go outside and get some fresh air, I’ll be right back.” Blaine whispered.
“Should I go with you? I should go with you.” Kurt said.
“Ummm….I actually kind of need some time to myself, is that ok?”
“Yeah of course.”
Blaine went outside and made his way to the empty bleachers and sat down to try and collect himself by taking a few deep breathes. He had gone to the bleachers to try and stave off panic attacks several times in the past so he didn’t even think about it. He sat there with his eyes closed taking slow deep breathes when he felt something wet, sticky and cold hitting him in the face. He opened his eyes and saw Karofsky standing over him an empty slushie cup in his hand.
“Fairy.” Karofsky spat before walking away.
Blaine now had no chance at preventing a full blown panic attack. He tried to loosen his bow tie as he was suddenly feeling like his was choking but his hands were trembling too badly to successfully undo the tie. He couldn’t breathe, his heart was racing, and he felt like he was going to pass out or throw up or both. He was freezing but he was also sweating. He couldn’t focus his eyes; he no longer knew where he was or how long he had been there. He felt a light pressure on both of his arms and he could see the color blue. It was a lovely shade of blue that reminded him of Kurt’s eyes.
“Breathe Blaine Breathe.” He could hear faintly through the buzzing in his ears. He felt his had being lifted up and pressed against something warm and solid.
“Come on baby, breathe like me. In and out, in and out.”
“That’s right honey just like that.”
Blaine’s vision began to come back into focus.
“K…..Kur….Kurt…” he managed to choke out despite still not being able to breathe properly.
“I’m here Blaine, I’m here. Just concentrate on your breathing.”
Blaine took a deep breath which he found a lot easier as apparently Kurt had taken off his bow tie. He tried to mimic Kurt’s breathing realizing the solid object his hand was being held against was Kurt’s chest. Finally Blaine felt his pulse slowing down to a normal rhythm and he no longer felt like he was about to die.
“Are you ok now?” Kurt asked.
“Yeah.”
“You were slushied.”
“Yeah.”
“Do you want to go home?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m going to take you to my house so Carole can make sure you are alright. Is that ok?”
“Yeah.”
Once they got to Kurt’s house he explained everything that happened to his step-mother who sat Blaine down and took his pulse while Kurt called Finn to tell him where he and Blaine had disappeared to. Kurt had to try and convince his brother that the whole glee club coming by was not a good idea at the moment, when Finn continued to insist it was a good idea Kurt made him put Rachel on who agreed to make sure everyone left Blaine alone. In the meantime Carole had declared Blaine to be physically fine and sent him to take a shower to get rid of the remnants of the slushie. After he was done his shower Blaine really wanted to have a nap, Carole agreed to let the boys take one in Kurt’s room as long as they left the door open. She knew that she could trust the boys and she was certain that neither one of them would be in the mood to ravish the other anyway. While Blaine slept and Kurt held him Carole made two phone calls: one to Blaine’s parents and one to Burt to fill them in on what had happened, they all agreed that Blaine skipping the rest of the day and spending it where Carole could keep an eye on him was the best plan.
