Blaine looked at himself in the mirror one last time before heading downstairs, he thought he looked pretty good he just hoped he looked anywhere as handsome as Kurt, he didn’t want people to look at them and wonder why Kurt was with Blaine.

“Looking good son.” His dad told him when he went downstairs.

                “Very handsome.” His mother agreed.

                “Thanks.”

“Have fun.” His dad said; Blaine knew that his father was probably trying to convince himself it was a girl Blaine was going out with but neither of them addressed the issue.  Blaine grabbed the flowers he had bought for Kurt and headed out the door to pick up Kurt.

He took a deep breath before knocking on Kurt’s door; he hoped to hell that Kurt’s dad wouldn’t kill him. He had met Burt Hummel a couple of times while tutoring Finn and the man terrified Blaine.

“Hello Mr. Hummel sir, I’m here to pick up Kurt.” Blaine said nervously when Burt opened the door.

                “Hi kid, it’s Blaine right?”

                “Yes sir.”

“Come in and sit down Kurt will be right down. I hope you don’t mind I’ve got the game on.”

“I only mind if you’re rooting against the Buckeyes sir.”

                “Never.” Burt laughed

“Then we won’t have any problems Mr. Hummel.” Blaine said smiling.

“I like you kid, you can call me Burt.”

Blaine tried to get into the game as he waited for Kurt but he was so nervous he couldn’t concentrate, one of his many glances towards the living room doorway was finally awarded when Kurt appeared wearing skinny black jeans paired a white collared shirt underneath a grey vest and accessorized with his hippo head broach.  Blaine felt his heart skip a beat and his jaw dropped.

“Hey kid, quit starring and give him those flowers you brought him.” Burt suggested.

“You brought me flowers?” Kurt asked.

Blaine nodded unable to speak and handed the bouquet of red and yellow roses to Kurt.

“Thank you they are beautiful.” Kurt breathed.

“They’re nothing compared to you.” Blaine said finding his voice again.

“Good line kid, gotta remember that one for Carole.” Burt commented.

“Can you put these in water for me dad?” Kurt asked handing his dad the flowers.

“Yeah yeah, you two better get going.” Burt said

The two boys walked out to the car, Blaine rushed a head and opened Kurt’s door for him.

“Did I tell you handsome you look tonight?” Blaine asked when they arrived at Breadstix.

“Well you said I was beautiful so yes.”

“Good, you’re the most handsome man I’ve ever seen and I’d be remised if I forgot to tell you that.”

“Well, you’re quite the charmer aren’t you?” Kurt said jokingly.

Blaine blushed and dropped his head.  The waitress came and took their orders.

“So how long have you wanted to ask me out?” Kurt asked smiling.

“Um…a few months ago I was walking by the choir room and I heard you singing I Want To Hold Your Hand since then.”

“Ah, that was a rough time for me, my dad had a heart attack and was in a coma.” Kurt remembered sadly.

“I didn’t know that, he seems good now though.”

“He is, I don’t let him eat any junk food so hopefully that won’t ever happen again.”

“Good, so how long have you wanted me to ask you out?” Blaine asked.

“You probably don’t remember but in Middle school you told me I had nice eyes, since then.”

“Sorry it took me so long, I pay more attention to books then real people.”

“It’s ok, I wasn’t even out back then.”

“Tell me about your family. I’ve met your dad and your stepmom but what about your actual mom?”

“My mom died when I was 8.”

                “I didn’t know Kurt, I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine. What about your family? I know you have an older brother but that’s about it.”

“Not much to tell my parents are still married and work out of town a lot.”

“And how do they feel about you being gay?” Kurt asked.

“They struggle with it but they’re trying, when I came out my mom cried and my dad left and didn’t come back until the next day. What about your dad?”

“He’s really supportive, when I came out he told me he knew since I was 3 and asked for a pair of sensible heels for my birthday.” Kurt said which made Blaine smile.

                “That’s really great Kurt.”

“You have a brother right?” Kurt asked.

“Yeah Cooper, he’s a lot older.” Blaine confirmed.

“Is he better than your parents?”

“Yeah he gave me a hug and told me that I was going to make some guy very happy one day when I came out to him. He once told me that when I was 5 I told him I wanted to marry my big buddy at school and that I used to make him change all the princess in the stories he told me to princes. We haven’t talked in a really long time though.”

“I was your big buddy at school.” Kurt said smiling.

Blaine paused  and thought back to the young boy assigned to be his big buddy when he was 5 and the boy was 6.

“Oh my god. You were! You know what this means?”

Kurt shook his head.

“This means I’ve liked you longer than you like me!” Blaine said triumphantly.

Kurt laughed.

“How do you like having Finn for a brother?” Blaine asked changing the subject back to the original topic of family.

“Finn’s great for the most part. When our parents were first dating he was a bit homophobic but I think he’s gotten over that now.”

“I hope so, you shouldn’t have to deal with that in your own home.”

“Yeah I get enough of it at school. Nobody seems to bother you about it though.” Kurt commented.

“I think it’s because nobody notices me.”

“If people found out you were out with me tonight that would change. I don’t mean that to sound conceited or anything but I stand out.”

“Kurt, I’m fine with that. I don’t care if the whole world knows I’m on a date with you. I don’t care what they think about me or say about me, the only person whose opinion matters to me is you.”

Kurt smiled at that.

“Ok, so I may not have any previous experience but I’m going to go ahead and declare this the best first date ever.” Kurt said smiling as they left Breadstix.

“I concur.” Blaine said reaching for Kurt’s hand. “I’m not ready for this night to end.”

“We could go get ice cream.” Kurt suggested.

“That sounds great. Do you want to go to the place that’s a couple of blocks away? That way we can walk and I don‘t have to let go of your hand to drive.”

                “Yes.”

As they walked Kurt noticed Blaine getting quiet and chewing on his lip a little.

                “What?” Kurt asked Blaine.

“I was just wondering if I could kiss you.

                “Yes.” Kurt breathed.

Blaine turned so he was completely facing Kurt and placed his hand on Kurt’s face, gently stroking Kurt’s cheek with his thumb before slowly leaning in and placing a small tentative kiss in Kurt’s lips, when Kurt began to kiss back he could feel Blaine melt into the kiss. Kurt wrapped his arms around Blaine’s neck and drew him as close as possible deepening the kiss slightly.

“Best first kiss ever.” Blaine whispered into Kurt’s neck when the kiss finally broke. He felt Kurt giggle and nod.

“Ok, let’s get that ice cream now.” Kurt said.

“Not until I get another kiss, I need to make sure the first one wasn’t a fluke. For science.”

                “For science huh?”

                “I’m really into science Kurt.”

Kurt giggled before kissing Blaine again.

“What’s the verdict Mr. Scientist?” Kurt asked after they broke apart.

“The verdict is we are very good kissers.”

                “Yes we are.” Kurt laughed

“I think we’ll have to kiss a lot, we owe it to kissing.”

“Don’t worry honey; I plan to kiss you as often as I can.”

                “Honey? I like it.”

                “Good.”

“Ok, my darling let’s go get that ice cream now.”

The boys eventually let each other go only to reach for the other’s hand immediately.

“So are we officially boyfriends?” Blaine asked.

                “Yes.”

“Good.”  Blaine said smiling and squeezing Kurt’s hand.

The boys ordered their ice cream and then ate it as they walked back to Blaine’s car, Blaine leaned over and took a lick of Kurt’s ice cream.

“Hey! Don’t lick my ice cream!” Kurt protested.

                “Why not?”

                “Germs Blaine.”

“Your tongue was in my mouth not ten minutes ago Kurt.” Blaine pointed out.

“Fair point.” Kurt said before stealing some of Blaine’s ice cream.

“Oh, yours is better, trade me?” Kurt asked.

Blaine laughed and traded Kurt ice cream cones.

“You know we should always do this, order two different kinds and then trade halfway through.” Blaine suggested.

“Yes! Then we won’t have to try and choose between flavours ever again!”

                “Exactly.”

They finished their ice creams around the same time they reached Blaine’s car before Blaine could open the door for Kurt he felt Kurt pushing him against the car door and kissing him passionately.

“What was that for baby?” Blaine asked when the kiss broke.

“Well I figured you’re probably taking me home now and my dad will be watching so we won’t have a proper goodnight kiss so I thought I should do it now. “

“Ok, well if we’re doing our goodnight kisses now you should know I would kiss you several times as I don’t want this night to end ever.” Blaine said giving Kurt a few little kisses.

“Honey, I want to kiss you more and I know I started this but I doubt two guys kissing in a parking lot in Ohio is a good idea.” Kurt said.

“True, sad but true.” Blaine said reluctantly letting Kurt go before opening the car door for him.

When they arrived at the Hummel residence Blaine got out first and ran around to open Kurt’s door. He walked Kurt to the front door, they could see the brim of a baseball cap peeking over the back of the couch through the window and they both knew that Kurt was right and that his dad was trying to watch them.

“I had a great time.” Blaine said kissing his boyfriend’s cheek.

“Me too, would you like to do something tomorrow? Go for brunch or something?”

                “Brunch sounds fantastic.” Blaine said.

“Text me when you get home?”

                “Of course.”

                “Good Night Blaine.”

“Good Night Kurt.” Blaine paused “Good Night Burt.”

“ ‘Night Blaine.” He heard Burt say from the couch near the window which caused both Kurt and Blaine to laugh.

“So much for trying to be stealthy dad.” Kurt said entering his house.
