The following day the boys sat down together at lunch to try and pick to a classic novel that has been updated and repackaged for a new generation they went with Pride and Prejudice and planned to discuss how Bridget Jones’ Diary is a modern retelling of the story and they also planned a small section on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
“I’m your friend Blaine.”
“Huh?” Blaine asked he had been busy writing their ideas down.
“Yesterday, you said you don’t have any friends but you were wrong I’m your friend. I mean I know at first you were uncomfortable around me but I think now you’ve realised that being gay doesn’t make me a bad person.” Kurt said.
“You think I was uncomfortable around you because you’re gay?” Blaine asked.
Kurt nodded.
“Kurt I’m uncomfortable around everyone.” Blaine told him.
“So it doesn’t bother you that I’m gay?”
“That would make me a self-loathing hypocrite wouldn’t it?”
“Wait, what?”
“Kurt I’m gay too.”
Blaine missed the huge smile that spread across Kurt’s face.
“Can I ask you something that might seem rude but I don’t mean it to be?” Kurt asked.
“Ok.”
“Why don’t you wear clothes that fit you?”
“My clothes fit.”
“No Blaine they are way too big.”
“Are they?”
“I’m pretty sure we could both fit into those pants.” Kurt said, widening his eyes when he realised what he said.
“Oh my god! That sounded way dirtier than what I had intended it to.” Kurt exclaimed hiding his face in his hands.
“Ummm…..I….I….ummm…..need to get to class.” Blaine stammered.
“Yeah me too. I’ll see you later?”
“I’m not tutoring Finn today I think we both need a break.” Blaine said.
“Ok, do you still need a ride home though? I have glee but if you wait I’ll drive you home after.”
“Oh, that’s really nice of you Kurt but I wouldn’t want you to have to go out of your way for me.”
“I don’t mind Blaine, we’re friends remember.”
“Of course. That would be lovely thank you Kurt.”
Blaine didn’t have any homework he could work on the only thing he wasn’t super ahead in was English and that’s because he couldn’t work on the project without Kurt so he just sat on the floor outside of the choir room and waited. Kurt was the first one out of the door.
“Ready to go Blaine?” he asked.
“Yeah but could we…..could we go to the mall?” Blaine asked nervously.
“Of course, are you looking for anything in particular?” Kurt replied.
“Ummm….well apparently my clothes don’t fit me so I guess I need some that do?”
“Oh! Yay! It’s make-over time! We’re going to have so much fun Blaine!” Kurt exclaimed happily putting his arm through Blaine’s the same way he would with Rachel or Mercedes but when he did it with them their hearts didn’t stop.
When they got to the mall they both recognized that Kurt was in charge, he was unsure of Blaine’s size as he had only seen him in oversized clothes so he grabbed a few sizes in the items he liked. After he got a large stack of items he pointed Blaine towards the changing rooms and demanded he try everything on and then show Kurt. Blaine emerged from the changing room in the first outfit.
“Not bad, but still a bit too big, try the next size smaller.” Kurt instructed. As Blaine went back to the changing room Kurt saw another shirt that he thought would look fantastic with Blaine’s colouring so he grabbed it and went to bring it to Blaine’s changing room.
“Blaine?” he called out unsure which room his friend was in.
“In here.” Blaine called back.
“Try on this shirt next…..oh.” Kurt said pulling back the curtain and revealing a shirtless Blaine. “You work out.” He said dumbly.
“Huh? Yeah I box.” Blaine said.
The two boys just stood there looking at each other for a moment.
“Those pants look great by the way.” Kurt said breaking the silence.
“I think they’re a bit tight.”
“No they’re skinny jeans, it’s how they are supposed to fit. Mine are a lot tighter.”
“I’ve noticed.” Blaine said. They looked at each other awkwardly again.
“Do they look alright?” Blaine asked.
“They look fantastic.”
“Ok, I’ll get them then.” Blaine said making to leave the changing room.
“Blaine, you’re not wearing a shirt.” Kurt reminded him.
“Oh!” Blaine crossed his arms in front of him trying to cover up his bare chest.
“Here put this one on.” Kurt said suddenly remembering his purpose for entering the changing room in the first place and handing Blaine red polo he was holding.
“Ok! Now that we know your sizes I can get them to put the extras back and we can just focus on buying you a few items that you really love today.” Kurt announced clapping his hands trying to break the tension.
The boys left the mall with a few bags worth of new clothing for Blaine and a bag or two for Kurt he bought most of his clothing online or made it himself but he did get the occasional item from the mall.
“Do you want to get coffee with me tomorrow after school?” Blaine asked feeling a sudden surge of boldness.
“Sure, we can work on our project.” Kurt replied happily.
“Right, that’s what I was thinking.” Blaine said too embarrassed to let Kurt know he was actually trying to ask him on a date.
When Kurt dropped Blaine off at his house Blaine dropped down on the couch with a big sigh.
“Everything ok?” his mother asked.
“I don’t know but don’t worry it’s not something you’d want to talk about anyway.” Blaine said.
“It’s about a boy?” his father asked entering the room.
“Yeah.”
“Ok, lay it on us.” Mr. Anderson said sitting beside his son on the couch.
Blaine’s parents grew up believing that homosexuality was wrong but when he came out to them they knew they either had to change their believes or risk losing their son, they still weren’t one hundred percent ok with their son’s sexuality but they were trying for him and Blaine knew it. He tried not to talk about it with them as he didn’t want to upset them and besides he didn’t have much to talk about other than to say he thought a certain movie star was hot, but now he needed advice on how to make Kurt see that Blaine wanted more than friendship and he didn’t know who else to ask, maybe if he spoke with his older brother Cooper more he could turn to him for advice but as it was they didn’t have anything in common, Blaine was way too nerdy for Cooper’s liking.
“Alright, so this boy Kurt and I have become friends but the thing is I’m head over heels for him but he doesn’t seem to realise it.” Blaine told his parents.
“Is he like you?” Blaine’s mom asked.
“Gay or a loser?” Blaine asked.
“You aren’t a loser son.” His dad reassured him.
“I am but that’s fine. And yes he is gay.”
“Try asking him out, the worse he can do is say no and if he does you’ll find someone else.” Mrs. Anderson said gently.
“I did! I asked him to coffee but he thinks it’s to work on an English project.” Blaine said throwing his head back in frustration.
“You know, when I was wooing your mother I publically serenaded her, you could try that. I know you don’t like to sing in front of people but Blaine, your mother and I have both heard you sing and you have an amazing voice.” Mr. Anderson said.
“Does it have to be in front of a lot of people? Maybe I could just do it in front of his glee club?” Blaine asked.
“I think that could work. Go upstairs and practice, we’ll call you when dinner is ready.” His father told Blaine clapping him on the back.
