Blaine tried to not let it show how much he was freaking out as he took his seat in English class, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to hug or slap the teacher for insisting they sit with their partners. He sat at his desk fidgeting with his pencil wondering what exactly one says to one’s ex-boyfriend especially when neither of you really wanted to break up anyway.
“Hi.” Kurt said softly sitting next to Blaine.
“Hi.”
“Did it work? Are you safe?” Kurt asked.
“I think so.”
“Good. I’m glad one of is.”
“What?”
“Nevermind.”
“Did he do something to you Kurt?”
“Just shoved me into some lockers, no worse than usual.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Not your fault.”
“You look amazing today Kurt.”
“Don’t Blaine.”
“I miss you, I know it hasn’t even been twenty-four hours but I miss you.”
“Blaine.” Kurt said warningly.
“Sorry.”
“I miss you too but we can’t Blaine.”
“I know.” Blaine sighed.
“So, I think we should just divide the assignment in half and when we’re done e-mail it each other.” Kurt said trying to change the subject.
“Ok.”
The boys moved their chairs a little further apart so it wouldn’t like they were back together. Blaine couldn’t help but sneak glances at Kurt every once in a while and once or twice he saw Kurt looking back. When class ended Blaine once again rushed out but this time it wasn’t so he could get to his next class early, no this time he needed to talk to someone.
“Can I talk to you alone?” Blaine asked.
Karofsky looked at him in surprise.
“Make it fast.”
“I want to renegotiate our deal.” Blaine said pushing his glasses up.
“How so?”
“Me for Kurt.”
“What’s that?”
“Leave Kurt alone and pick on me instead. Shove me in lockers, dump slushies on me, whatever I don’t care just leave Kurt alone.”
“What’s in it for me?” Karofsky asked crossing his arms.
“You like bashing us ‘fairies’ right? I promise I won’t tell anyone, you leave Kurt alone and you’ll never have to worry about me going to Principle Figgins or anyone else and telling on you.”
“Fine.”
Blaine walked away feeling hopeful but at the same time realising how much his old life sucked.
