I'm so sorry! I know I said I would updating more this month but I've actaully been working more than I was at Christmas which is really unusual considering the fact I work retail.
As far as first dates go Kurt and Blaine’s was good, it wasn’t perfect, neither of them went ahead and planned a romantic surprise for the other, Blaine had wanted to get Kurt flowers but none of Lima’s florists were open that early. Kurt kissed Blaine’s cheek and told him that was ok Blaine could buy him flowers some other time. They ended up going to a little bakery for breakfast, it might not be the healthiest of choices but it was either that or Denny’s and there was no way either them wanted to eat at Denny’s, especially on their first date.
The bakery was…fine, the food was good the coffee not so much. Neither of them was harassed but they didn’t feel welcome there either. After breakfast they both felt the need to get away from the judgemental eyes of others and so Blaine suggested they go to a nearby park that Copper used to take him to when he was little and Cooper was staying with them. Blaine suspected that it was Cooper’s way of trying to give him a break from his parent’s fighting. When Kurt and Blaine got to the park it was empty, not all surprising considering it was a weekday in November, all the kids were probably in school and the thin dusting of snow was enough to keep away the parents kids too young for school.
“I think my mom took me here a couple of times.” Kurt said looking around the park.
“Maybe we were here at the same time.”
“Maybe.”
“It’s really not fair.”
“What’s not fair?”
“That we didn’t meet sooner, why couldn’t we have met in high school? I really needed you in high school.”
“I looked for you Kurt, I really did.”
“I know. I’m not blaming you or anything, I promise… I’m just frustrated that it took so long for us to find each other and when we finally do we only get a few days together before we’re separated for who knows how long.”
“I’ve been thinking about that, I know you said you wouldn’t quit RENT and I don’t think you should but I could defer Columbia. Start in the fall instead of the winter and that way I could join you on tour. I could be like your personal assistant or drive the bus or something.”
“No.”
“But we wouldn’t have to be apart.”
“I don’t want to be apart from you either Blaine but you can’t give up your dreams for me.”
“Not give up just put on hold.”
“They’ve been on hold for too long as it is. It’s time to start following them.”
“Part of me knows you’re right but you are also right about it not being fair that we only get a few days together after just finding each other.”
“And I stand by that, it isn’t fair but we’ll make it work. We’ll Skype and text and Christmas isn’t that far away, we’ll see each other then.”
“Not on Thanksgiving?” Blaine asked.
“I’m sorry but we have a performance in Texas on Thanksgiving.”
“Oh.”
“I know I started it but can we please talk about something else? I don’t want to spend the time we do have together sad that we’ll soon be apart especially since it will be only temporary and we’ll have the rest of our lives to make up for it.”
“You’re right.”
“I’m always right honey, it’s best that you realise that early on.”
Later on, Kurt and Blaine were parked outside the house the Burt and Carole called home.
“You don’t need to go home and change into a suit Blaine, what you are wearing is fine.” Kurt reassured Blaine for the hundredth time.
“Are you sure? Like really really sure?” Blaine asked as he reluctantly got out of the car.
“I’m really really sure. Why? Do I need to wear suit when I meet your parents tomorrow?”
“They usually only go out to eat places that require a jacket and tie so…yes.”
“I didn’t think Lima had anywhere that fancy.”
“It doesn’t we usually go to Westerville to eat.”
“That seems like a long way to go for dinner.”
“It is but there isn’t anywhere good enough for my parents closer….they’re kinda snobs.”
“And know I’m crazy nervous.”
“Oh don’t worry they’ll love you.”
“Are you saying I’m a snob too?”
“No I’m saying you’re perfect.”
“You aren’t going to charm your way out of meeting my parents.”
“I do want to meet them, I’m just nervous. What if they don’t think I’m good enough for you?”
“Blaine, honey, they know you’re my soul mate. And they know that means you are my perfect match so there’s no way in hell they’ll think you aren’t good enough for me.”
“Ok.” Blaine rolled his neck like a fighter preparing for a match.
“Ok?” Kurt smiled and kissed Blaine’s cheek. “Stop looking like you are about to walk into a lion’s den. They’re nice people I promise.”
“Let’s go in.” Blaine said gesturing to the door with the bouquet of flowers he stopped to get Carole (he bought a single red rose for Kurt at the same time and told him it was the first of many.)He had wanted to get something for Burt as well but seeing as he wasn;t quite old enough to buy a six pack yet he decided not to get anything. Before Blaine could chicken out or stall any further Kurt opened the front door.
“Was wondering if you two were ever gonna to come in or if we were gonna have to eat on the front step.” Burt joked when he saw the boys enter the house.
“Sorry Mr. Hummel sir.”
“Oh Burt what did you do to the poor boy? He looks terrified!” Carole exclaimed coming out of the kitchen.
“I didn’t do nothing, he came in looking that way.” Burt said throwing his hands up in surrender. “
“He’s just a little nervous.” Kurt told his parents as he rubbed Blaine’s arm.
“Aw there’s nothing to be nervous of kid. Me and Carole don’t bite.”
“Sorry sir, I’ve just never done this before.”
“Of course not, meeting your soul mate’s parents is sorta a once in a life time thing. Hey at least you’re wearing pants.” Burt chuckled.
Blaine looked down at his legs as if he was worried his pants had suddenly disappeared.
“So you’re better off than the first time I met Elizabeth’s parents.” Burt continued.
“Oh my god dad!” Kurt exclaimed.
“It’s not like I had planned to meet them right then.” Burt defended. Blaine didn’t know if the story was true or not but he did know that it definitely helped him to relax a little bit because no matter how he screwed up tonight at least he was wearing pants.
