I really wanted to get this done and posted a lot sooner but I just couldn't get time to. I'm sorry but the good news is now that Christmas is over I should have a lot more time to write.
When Blaine walked in the front door of his parents’ house it was oddly quiet and tense, like they were actively trying not to fight because of what he had said to them earlier that day.
“Where were you Blaine? We had plans to go to the craft store.” His mom asked.
“I know I’m sorry I lost track of time. I found him.”
“Are you sure? Because I seem to recall you mistakenly thinking you had found him several times in the past.” His dad pointed out.
Blaine hung his head embarrassed by his past self but then raised his head to look his father in the eyes. “I’m sure dad, it’s him. This isn’t a silly crush like in high school this is the real thing.”
“He’s coming to my birthday dinner.” Blaine’s mom told him.
“He is.” Blaine confirmed. “Can you not tell Cooper though? I want to surprise him.” The elder Andersons nodded, of course Blaine would want to surprise Cooper after all Cooper was the first person to realize that Blaine had a soul mate out there somewhere.
“Tell us everything about him.”
“I don’t know everything about him, mom, we just met today.”
“Fine fine. At least tell me is he cute?”
“Oh mom, he is way beyond simply being cute…he’s absolutely stunning.” Blaine gushed.
After that Blaine got lost in his thoughts about Kurt and even though he sat and ate dinner with his parents he wouldn’t be able to tell anyone what it was. The only thing that snapped him back into reality was the sound of his phone ringing.
“Hi.” He answered his phone dreamily.
“Hi.” Kurt replied equally dreamily. “I told my dad and Carole about you. They want to meet you.”
“Yeah mine are pretty excited to meet you too.”
“So I was thinking since we have our date tomorrow and your mom’s birthday dinner on Saturday that we could have dinner with my parents on Sunday.”
“Umm…I’m supposed to go back to New York on Sunday. I’d change it but I have an appointment at Columbia on Monday.”
“I didn’t realise you were going back so soon.”
“I know, I was going to tell you tomorrow. When do you go back to your tour?”
“Tuesday.”
“Maybe….maybe you could come back to New York with me? And then we can Rachel and Santana that we’re soul mates together. I’d sleep on the couch and you could take my bed…your bed…”
“That sounds like fantastic idea except for one thing…there’s no way in hell I’d let you sleep on that couch all night. We can share our bed.”
“Oh…ok.”
“Just for sleeping….ok maybe not just sleeping but not everything, ok? I’m not ready for everything.”
“Me either.”
“Back to the original purpose of the call, dinner with my parents.”
“Right, well I guess we’ll have to do it tomorrow won’t we? I’d say invite them to mom’s birthday dinner but I don’t know if I’m ready to subject them to my family.”
“But you’re willing to subject me to your family?”
“Well yeah, you’re my soul mate you have to stick by me despite my dysfunctional family, besides if you can put up with Cooper my parents are a piece of cake, especially when in public.”
“Cooper isn’t that bad, he’s just a bit….enthusiastic.”
Blaine hummed in agreement. “Does he still do that thing where he talks really loudly during a scene to show how intense he is?”
“What? No he doesn’t do that.”
“Good.”
“I’ll let my dad and Carole know that we’re going to have dinner with them tomorrow night, which is actually rather perfect since we used to always have family dinner on Friday night.”
“Sounds great. Text me your address and I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning, is that ok?”
“Of course.”
“Fantastic. I think I just heard Cooper, I’d better go or he’ll grab the phone from me and ruin our surprise.”
“Damn. Ok. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Bright and early.”
Blaine hung up and set his phone just in time as Cooper came bounding into his room and flopped down on Blaine’s bed mere seconds later.
“Hey squirt, long time no see how have ya been?”
“Don’t call me that and I just saw you a couple days ago at your mom’s.”
Cooper shrugged. “She sent you some of her world famous banana bread since you complained that I ate it all while you were there.”
“Score! Where is it?”
“I ate it on the way over.”
“Of course you did.”
“Seriously though, you seem…different from when I saw you a couple of days ago.”
“Oh…uh…yeah…new bowtie.” Blaine lied feebly.
“Isn’t that the bowtie I gave you two Christmases ago?”
“Umm…”
Cooper studied his younger brother silently for a few minutes. “You found him, didn’t you?”
“I…yeah.”
“And you’re sure it’s him?”
Blaine nodded.
“This is huge! Why didn’t you call me? When did it happen? Who is he?”
“Umm…it just happened today…I don’t really know much about him yet.”
“When do I get to meet him?”
“He’s coming to mom’s birthday dinner.”
“Why are you gushing? I always thought you’d gush about him when you finally met him…is he…disappointing?”
“No! Not at all, he’s so much more than I could have ever hoped for…I just don’t want to jinx it I guess.”
“Makes sense. But like is it even possible to jinx it when your soul mates?”
Blaine shrugged trying to retain his composure when he was inwardly cheering that Cooper bought his story. When Blaine and Kurt first came up with the plan to surprise Cooper Blaine thought it would be easy, all he had to do was not tell Coop who his soul mate is but in reality it was already proving to be a lot harder. He wanted to tell Cooper his soul mate is Kurt, hell he wanted to tell everyone his soul mate is Kurt. He also wanted to pump Coop for more information, he was a bit jealous his brother had known his soul mate longer than he had and he wanted to know every single thing Cooper knew about him. Blaine knew over time he’d know Kurt better than anyone but right at this moment that wasn’t the case and it was driving him crazy. Nothing in the world could make Blaine break a promise to his soul mate so no matter how much he wanted to talk to Cooper about Kurt he wouldn’t, besides he figured it would probably be a lot more fun and rewarding to learn everything about Kurt from Kurt instead of from someone else.
