It was six months after the 'sock incident' as it became to be known in the Anderson house when Blaine was looking for Cooper.
"In here buddy." Cooper called from his bathroom. Blaine opened his brother's bedroom door and climbed onto his bed, he sat in the middle cross legged.
"Whatcha doing Coop?"
"I'm getting ready for a date."
"What's a date?"
"Well, you see Blainers there is this really pretty girl in my class and I'm going to take her out to dinner and hold her hand and if everything goes well I'm going to kiss her."
"Like on the mouth?"
"Yes."
"Ew."
"When you get big you won't thinking kissing is gross."
"When I get big do I have to go on dates with girls?" Blaine asked frowning.
"No, you can go on dates with boys if you want."
"That's good."
"How are things at school squirt? Do you like Kindergarten?"
"Yeah, it's lots of fun Coop. We met our big buddies today."
"Big buddies? Oh, that's that thing where they pair you up with someone in grade one and they show you around the school and shit right?"
"Cooper!"
"What?"
"You said a bad word!" Blaine admonished.
"Oops, sorry Blainers. Tell me more about your big buddy."
"Oh Cooper, he's so pretty! His eyes are blue but sometimes they are green and at recess someone tried to take my swing and he yelled at them and his eyes turned grey!"
"Wow."
"Yeah, and he's so smart. He told me to use the bathrooms by the library instead of by the lunch room cause hardly any kids use them and they are lots cleaner."
"Well, that's good to know."
"Yeah."
"You really like him don't you?" Cooper asked.
"I'm going to marry him one day Cooper."
"Then I should learn his name."
"It's Kurt."
"Hey Blainers, I forgot my dress socks can you grab me....no you can't, sorry. I wasn't thinking." Cooper said walking out of his bathroom to his dresser.
Blaine watched as his brother opened the drawer full of those terrible things known as socks, he hadn't realised Cooper had so many or that they were so close to where his brother slept at night. In that instant Blaine knew he'd have to face his fear in order to protect his brother and he began to come up with a plan. Now, if he was Cooper he'd probably carry out his plan there and then but Blaine knew he had to wait for the right time.
It was a week before he got his chance, Cooper was in the shower and their parents were out doing some weird grown up stuff, Blaine didn't know what it all sounded really boring to him. He knew he had to be fast, he grabbed the supplies he had gathered, a pair of oven mitts that should protect his hands, some BBQ tongs so he didn't have to touch them and a pair of ski goggles to protect his eyes. Then he grabbed the little stool he stood on to brush his teeth and a garbage bag, he stood on his stool and opened Cooper's drawer, one by one he grabbed the evil socks with the tongs and threw them in the garbage bag, when he was done he moved into his parents' room and did the same with the horrible socks that lived in there. He heard the shower being turned off and quickly placed the full bag near the backdoor where the trash goes to be taken out and then hid his supplies back in his room, he'd put them away properly later.
He quickly ran to the couch and sat on it, his back straight and his one leg crossed over the other, he opened his book and pretended to be reading when he heard Cooper come down the stairs.
"Blaine?" Cooper asked after a few minutes.
"Yes Cooper."
"Do you know what is with that garbage bag by the back door?"
"Mom said she wanted you to take it out."
"Ok."
Cooper left the room and Blaine heard the bag rustling.
"Mom wanted me to throw this out?"
"Yes."
"It's full of socks Blaine."
"Yeah, mom read about a little girl who had her toes eaten by some socks so she decided the throw them all out to protect us."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Blaine."
"Cooper."
"Do you really expect me to believe that mom threw out all these socks?"
"Yes."
"You know good little boys don't lie to their big brothers."
"I'm a good boy!"
"Are you lying to me?"
"Yes." Blaine said hanging his head in shame.
"That's what I thought. Ok, help me put all these back."
"Do I have to?"
"If you can take them out of the drawers you can put them back."
"Fine." Blaine said marching to his room and grabbing his supplies.
Cooper took one look at his little brother decked out in two way too big oven mitts, a pair of ski goggles and holding BBQ tongs and doubled over in laughter. He could never stay mad at the kid for long.
