When their lips separated a few mind-blowing seconds later, Kurt and Blaine slowly opened their eyes to see whether the other was still there, and it wasn’t some cruel joke their imagination played on them.
Nope. They were still there, in each other’s sweet presence, now smiling shyly at each other, unable to say a word. Not that either of them had the urge.
The freedom to stare and gaze and get lost in the other’s eyes was exhilarating. Just as the closeness they were allowed to indulge in now. They didn’t have to fear the other’s reaction, nor did they have to worry about the uncontrollable, involuntary instincts their bodies couldn’t suppress anymore. It was okay. More than okay.
So they leaned in a second time. And a third time. And an umpteenth time. To see what it felt like to initiate a kiss, to drown in a kiss, to end a kiss. What it felt like to be finely attuned to the other’s reactions, little noises and intakes of breath.
The whole thing was the right balance of strangely comfortable and naturally thrilling.
And so Kurt and Blaine spent the next hour or so sitting on Blaine’s couch in the living room, shifting and moving only when something seemed even cozier than their previous position. Smiles and exchanged looks, caresses and little tugs were their means of communication for the time being, practically no word was uttered between them since their iloveyous.
But seriously, what else was there to say?
Well, to tell the truth, both boys’ minds were reeling restlessly, full of unspoken realizations and thoughts. So much has happened tonight, and their excited brains were trying to process everything. In the face of the past weeks, but also, in the face of past years, relationships, experiences. One thing was for sure. This, this night and development was unlike anything either Kurt of Blaine has ever been a part of.
Kurt couldn’t help but think everything happened the way it had to. He didn’t regret writing the list weeks ago, and now that he had his happy ending, or happy middle-ing, or whatever, he didn’t mind being so blind for so long. Everything turned out okay. Because he was sure Blaine was what he was waiting for.
Of course he couldn’t really be sure, he chided himself, because, yeah, they weren’t even together for 2 hours, but somehow he had this idea… Every little move and gesture of Blaine made him feel more and more secure and, well… in love. At the back of his mind he knew it was risky, to get his hopes up so soon. But yeah, he found himself analyzing every little detail of Blaine’s behavior, and all of those strengthened his feelings for the boy. From the way he was so talented with his lips and tongue to the gentle but firm strokes he caressed Kurt arms and combed his hair. Kurt took everything as vindication. Yep, he was so right about Blaine.
Blaine on the other hand wasn’t really able to analyze anything. All he felt was an unfathomable amount of happiness bubbling in his chest, threatening to burst. But it wasn’t a threat anymore. He could moan softly into Kurt’s mouth when during a passionate kiss Kurt tightened his embrace lovingly around Blaine, and Blaine could hold Kurt’s angelic face in his palms, looking at the boy adoringly, for long long second before peppering his face with chaste, warm pecks. All he felt was the rightness of the night, and he knew a month of waiting wasn’t really long if he thought of the great pining love-stories of world literature, but it was long enough to make Blaine feel the luckiest bastard on the face of the planet, now that he had Kurt in his arms. Not that he thought the waiting-rewarding made him lucky. It was more like the i-can’t-even-imagine-finding-anyone-whom-I-could-ever-love-more type of luck.
Yes, Kurt felt like he arrived. All the things he doubted with previous boyfriends and lovers… none of those were there with Blaine. He decided not to settle for mediocre weeks before, and then he found this boy. This man. And he was anything but! Even before Kurt admitted his feelings, he knew Blaine held a very special place in his heart, and knew he’d do anything for him. Now that they sort of stepped into different roles, this didn’t change a bit. Yes, Kurt was terrified that night of the thought that Blaine might not return his feeling, or might break his heart. But he didn’t have to deal with that right now, because Blaine loved him, and wanted him, and cherished him. And that felt pretty damn awesome. And Kurt sensed a change, not because Blaine changed tonight, but because Kurt was now thinking of Blaine in comparison to his previous partners. And well, he had to admit, all the doubt that was there with them… he had none towards Blaine. He wanted to give everything to the boy, and could do so without a shred of uncertainty.
Blaine found himself in a weird, paradoxical state. He was deeply lost in the moment, in the present, soaking in everything he was given. But he couldn’t help his mind wandering to the notion of eternity and forever. He knew, of course he knew he wasn’t rational when this thought formed itself in his head. But that was what he felt. That it doesn’t get any more right than this. So let’s stay. Let’s stay forever.
Everything was so comfortable, and cozy and pleasant, and new and exciting and just wow.
They didn’t know when, but it seemed they both reached a point around the same time, when they realized, they didn’t really have to shut up about their feelings anymore. Yeah, it was amazingly comfortable, to explore each other wordlessly for the longest time, but emotionally it got so overwhelming, they both felt the need to say it out loud. To hear themselves, and to let the other bathe in their attention. Kurt was the first to speak.
“I don’t think I will ever get enough of you…” he said, holding Blaine’s face in his hands for emphasis, eyes boring into his. A shy, though gradually more confident smile tugging at his lips. Blaine was taken aback for a moment, the spoken words surprising him a little. But the content warmed his heart so much, he didn’t mind one bit.
“That’s good, right?”
“Well, only if you don’t want to get rid of me… Otherwise it will suck for both of us.” Kurt said. Oh those early teasing jokes with a new lover. When you’re fishing for compliments, while conveying your own enthusiasm.
“Kurt. I need you to understand this.” Blaine said with all seriousness. “I might have these doubts, that you’re too good to be true, but please, don’t ever doubt that you’re the one I want and need. I honestly can’t believe my luck.”
“Well, maybe it has not much to do with luck. Maybe we had to go through everything in life to find each other.”
“Do you believe that? That everything that’s happened led us to this moment? To each other?”
“Well, not in the sense that it was written anywhere. Or that I had to find you. I just feel like we’ve both been working pretty hard to reach a point in our lives when we can appreciate a good thing when we come across it.” Kurt explained. Blaine furrowed his brows, deep in thought for a second.
“So, are you saying that if there had been another gay barista at Cocoa that day, you’d be in his arms tonight?” Blaine asked, trying really hard not to sound hurt. Gosh, those early insecurities with a new lover. When you don’t know if you mean as much to them as they mean to you.
“No, no, Blaine, that’s not what I meant. How should I say this? I could’ve met another guy at Cocoa that day, and I could’ve spent some time with him the following days and weeks. But I wouldn’t have fallen for him, because by the time I was there in Cocoa, I knew what I wanted, or rather, who I wanted. And the fact that I knew it, made me ready.” Kurt paused. And added. “Ready for you.”
“I know. I guess you’re right.”
“Can I use terms of endearment? Would that freak you out?” Kurt asked, totally out of the blue.
“No, of course not.” Blaine answered quickly, not sure if they closed the previous topic, or not. But Kurt went on.
“Blaine, honey, I do feel lucky. Extremely. But only because I had no control over your emotions. As far as I’m concerned, finding you, getting to know you, falling in love with you, that had nothing to do with luck. Okay, maybe the being on one campus part…” He said with a light chuckle. “But, you know… The way I see it, once I got closer to you, there was nothing else to do, but fall in love. Or at least retrospectively that’s what I think. I mean, seriously, who could do anything else but be enamored with you?” and with that Kurt leaned in, to seal his confession with a chaste kiss. Blaine’s happy smile told him the boy understood where Kurt was coming from.
“Yeah, I guess I see your point. But don’t expect me to get over the luck-part, like… ever. I will never not consider myself lucky that you wanted me in your life.”
“Oh, baby, how could I not?” Kurt said, caressing Blaine face gently. “You take my breath away with everything you are, don’t ever doubt that. Your soul, your heart, your mind.”
“My soul, and heart, and mind, it’s all yours…” Blaine breathed. “Just let me be near yours.”
Blaine, holding the intense eye-contact, leaned closer and closer to Kurt, and the last were spoken in a way that their lips touched with Blaine forming the words. After the confessions though, they were once again overwhelmed by the proximity, and drowned in the heady kisses for another few silent minutes. Which sort of called attention to an interesting thing that, once again, both seemed to realize at the same time. They didn’t address this animalistic, undeniable, uncontrollable physical attraction that was working between them.
And now seemed a good time to at least mention it…
“Gosh, Blaine, make me stop, because I can’t quit touching you…”
“And why would I stop you, hm?” Blaine said, cheekily, kissing along Kurt jaw, finishing his trail just under Kurt’s ear. There was no answer, other than the most delicious sounds coming from Kurt that Blaine’s ever heard. Soft little moans and heavy breathing.
Blaine was the one who stopped them in their motions, he let go of Kurt, so they could both concentrate on what he was about to say.
“Kurt, can we go to my room?” he asked, and although Kurt didn’t seem to panic or freak out at these words, he continued, feeling the need to explain himself. “I’m not expecting anything, I hope you believe me, I just thought it might be more comfortable. We can lie down on my bed. I just want to be close to you.”
“I believe you.” Kurt said, with a smile that meant Of course I do. “Lead the way, mister.” He said playfully, and went to stand from the couch.
Blaine’s face revealed that he was the one a little surprised at how nonchalant this little conversation was, he stood up, and staring deeply into Kurt’s eyes with one hand he searched for Kurt’s, and led them towards the room Kurt only saw the door of.
When they entered Kurt couldn’t help but look around to explore, just for a few brief seconds. The room was comfortable, manly, and pleasant, with beautiful mixture of dark and beige colors, soft materials and wood furniture. The absolute center of the room was Blaine’s king size bed. But not in anin-your-face-sexual kind of way. It was clear Blaine used its surface for more than sleeping. He must read and play music and flip through photos there as well, Kurt thought.
“I’m gonna send a quick text to Kath, is that okay?” Kurt asked, fishing out his phone.
“Yes, sure. Um, Kurt, is it okay if I get rid of the jeans, I sort of have been in them all day, and they’re…” Blaine said, ready to continue, but was cut off by Kurt.
“Blaine, yes, go ahead. This is your home. Please don’t be uncomfortable because of me.” Kurt said, and was quite proud of himself for coming up with an argument other than Yes, please, and don’t stop at the jeans, let me admire you wholly…
He quickly typed in the message, and sent the update to Kate.
From Kurt:
(11:19)
Kath, I’m still at Blaine’s, everything’s fine. I’ll tell you all about it later. Don’t wait up. Love you to bits! K
Kurt put down his phone on the nightstand that was closer to the side he was standing next to, and turned around to see Blaine was already stretched out on the bed. Not in a provocative, or suggestive way, his head was propped on his hand, and he seemed to be admiring Kurt wordlessly. When Kurt turned around, he simply smiled at the boy, without giving instructions, or comments. He really wasn’t expecting anything.
Kurt, on the other hand, found himself in quite the predicament. Well, simply put… Blaine looked absolutely stunning. This was the first time Kurt saw more of Blaine than what his usual clothes left for the eyes to see, and Blaine, in his polo-shirt and black briefs, lying on the bed, well, that was a sight to behold…
Kurt, surprising himself, let his eyes wander shamelessly from Blaine’s head to toe, and now that he gazed at the boy, he sort of desired to be exposed, to be closer, and the only way he could think of right now was to get rid of his jeans himself.
So he did.
Blaine’s smile faded at the movements when Kurt reached for his belt, unbuckled it and opened his fly. His mouth opened in a barely audible little huff of appreciation, and when Kurt continued to get out of the jeans, and rid himself of his sock as well, Blaine was looking at the boy’s face again, searching for Kurt’s eyes.
Kurt went to lay down next to Blaine, propping himself on his elbow as well, facing his dark haired lover.
“You’re absolutely beautiful, Kurt.” Blaine said, and reached to caress Kurt’s rosy cheeks for the thousandth time that evening. Kurt only smiled, and scooted closer, until their faces were inches apart, just like their upper bodies, and their legs touched in the lightest of ways.
Again, there were no words to express the new sensations, and both fell silent, admiring and exploring. With eyes, fingers, skin on skin, sighs answering sighs. Their lips found each other in a comfortable manner initially, and gradually, in a way that neither could have described later they let their bodies react and lead the way. Slowly they got rid of their clothing except for their briefs, and there was so much to just feel. Comfortable turned to pleasant, pleasant to warm, then heated, and frantic.
Everything just seemed to work between them. It was loving, and gentle, but maddeningly hot as well, and that’s when Blaine stopped abruptly all his movements, stilling Kurt as well. They breathed heavily, trying to calm themselves a little, and when he was able to, Blaine spoke up.
“Kurt, baby, we need to stop.”
“Okay.” Kurt said automatically. He’s not going to argue, if Blaine wants them to stop, that’s what will happen.
Blaine’s thoughts were catching up with him, that’s why he needed to break away.
This was special. They were special. What they shared was special.
It hit him with such a force that he felt the need and want to preserve this. As a memory and experience neither will forget.
Early on in their friendship Kurt shared a secret with Blaine that he never forgot. Kurt was a virgin. And Blaine told him in return that he was too, waiting for the right person to share that last milestone with.
And now here they were, feeling with absolute certainty, Blaine hoped he was not alone in this, that the other was the right person.
So he didn’t want anything rush, or impulsive to happen in the heat of the moment. It would have been great, he had no doubt about that. But should anything happen tonight, he wanted it to be savored and cherished, so they could go back to the memory for the rest of their lives.
“Kurt, why did you write that list a month ago?” Blaine asked, and Kurt, although taken aback, knew better than to doubt Blaine had a point. So he thought for a moment, and answered.
“Well… basically to protect myself.” It was simple. The list had many functions, they already discussed that, but fundamentally it served as an armor. For Kurt.
“Exactly.” Blaine said. His body now relaxed enough that he could form coherent sentences. “Kurt, I need to make sure you know you have nothing to fear when you’re with me. I know you’ve only known me for a few weeks, and I know I’ve only told you how I feel a few hours ago. But I’m ready to show you how seriously I’m taking you, and us. And I want you have some kind of proof that I’m not playing around.”
“Blaine, baby, that’s very sweet of you, but I trust you. You’re all the proof I need. I can see it in your eyes. I love you, and I know you will take care of me, no matter what.”
“And it makes me insanely happy that you trust me with all your heart, but, I don’t know, I guess I need it too. I trust you with everything I am, I just need something, a token that says how much I mean everything I said this night. How much I know that we are special. That this is the real deal.”
Kurt now started to understand what Blaine was saying. It wasn’t about convincing the other that they were in love. Yes, they were, very much so. But the word, while meant the world to both, covered so little of what they had. What they found. They needed some sort of recognition of the fact that they were one of a kind, never to be repeated, never to be broken apart. That they were Kurt and Blaine. Tonight, and tomorrow night, and the night after that.
“Okay, what did you have in mind?” Kurt asked, because Blaine obviously already had something in that gorgeous head of his.
“Kurt, I’m ready to promise you things. I can’t and don’t want to promise you things I can’t make sure I can keep. I can’t promise you eternity, although I want to, I do. But I can promise you to work on it. And I can promise you to give everything I have and try to make you happy as long as you’ll let me.”
“Oh, Blaine, I love you so much. And I want that, too. I want all of you, and I want to give you all that I am. I want to work with you on our eternity. Because I don’t know what the future brings, but I want it to include you.”
Kurt was pretty surprised when the next moment Blaine jumped off the bed, and left the room. As much as Kurt could hear, Blaine was searching for something. He didn’t have to guess for long, because Blaine returned to the room with a pen and piece of paper in one hand, and his small digital camera in the other.
“There.” He said, giving the writing equipment for Kurt. “You’ll write, I’ll take the pictures.”
“What pictures?”
“I haven’t figured it out yet. But we’ll make this work.”
“Okay, what am I writing?”
“I just want this piece of paper to be our list. The list of things we promise to give each other, the list of things we can’t be without as a couple. Ten might be too many, but what do you say we’ll gather 5 things we base our relationship on. We can always revisit it, I just need this little something to have as a memory of tonight. Do you think it’s silly?” Blaine asked, not sure if he went too far for Kurt’s taste.
“No, I think it’s great. I’m just thinking.” Kurt said, and his face showed evidence for that. “Okay. My first one. You said it, I said it, it’s very important to me. We need to give each other space to live the lives we want. I feel like being our own person will make us better for the other as well, if you know what I mean.”
“Yes, and I agree. This is a good one.” Blaine nodded.
“Date nights.” Kurt continued. “We need to have date nights, and a great diversity. With friends, and lazy dinners and parties and what not. You know, mixing it up, so we never fall into a boring pattern.”
“Okay, you’re pretty good at this.” Blaine said, and leaned to Kurt, to plant a soft kiss on his temple. “Total honesty.” He said simply. “I don’t expect you to tell me everything about you, but what you do chose to share, please be honest to me. And I’ll try to do the same. I want you to call me out on things I do wrong, and I want to hear you honest opinion.”
“Yep, agreed.”
“Okay. We don’t leave in the middle of an argument. We don’t have to fight it out, whatever it might be, right there and then, but when we are arguing, nobody leaves, unless we are calm enough to say, there’s no reason to continue at the moment. What do you think?” Blaine said, and it was pretty obvious he needed a reassurance for this one.
“Yes, I think I can do that.” Kurt said. Well. One more. “Blaine, this might sound silly, but maybe… I don’t know. I want to promise you this, but you don’t have to agree, and we can have a totally different one… I want to promise you to try everything in my power to keep this fire alive as long as I can, because it’s the best thing that has ever happened to me…” Kurt blushed, and Blaine found it absolutely adorable that Kurt got shy about expressing this.
“Oh, baby, of course this will be our fifth. It’s the perfect fifth promise. I will do everything in my power to keep this alive, too, because, you, Kurt, are undoubtedly the biggest blessing I’ve ever had in my life.”
Blaine cupped Kurt’s cheeks and gave him a searing, passionate kiss. Kurt was absolutely lost in the moment, when he heard a click and sensed a flash through his closed eyelids.
“Sorry.” Blaine chuckled, after their lips parted. “You kept your end, I wanted to add my two cents.” He caressed Kurt face, and leaned back in to add a soft little peck.
“I’ll forgive you when I see the picture.” Kurt said, playfully, and placed the piece of paper on the nightstand. Blaine put down the camera as well.
And now, without props and tools, naked and exposed, the boys realized the force of what just happened. Hearing the other promise all they themselves were ready to promise, it just created such a safe haven, a magic circle, where both felt the infiniteness of possibilities. And it felt pretty incredible.
…
The next morning Kurt knew he owed it to Kate to tell her everything, and since he ended up spending the night at Blaine’s, he thought it’d be best to take the boy with him to share the news with Kath.
So after a lazy breakfast, showers and getting ready, around 9 am. the boys knocked on the dorm room where they hoped to find Kate. She was there, sitting on her bed, in a pretty similar fashion Kurt last saw her.
“Morning, honey.” Kurt chirped when they entered the room.
“Hi, Kate.” Blaine added. And Kate looked up to see their intertwined fingers.
“Oh, look who’s back?” Kate said, a little sarcastically, but not really hurt. “And you brought a little playmate, that’s nice. What’s up, boys?” She asked, and Kurt was extremely grateful that she didn’t even consider holding a grudge after last night’s chaos.
“Um, we have news…” Kurt started, and smiled shyly. Still not letting go of Blaine’s hand.
“Well, you don’t say…” Kate answered, gesturing towards their body language that was pretty revealing. When neither of the boys went on, Kate’s eyes widened, and sort of terrified, she added. “Oh my god! This is not the news?” She pointed to their hands. “What? You’re not expecting, are you? Or got hitched already?” She said, cracking herself up at the last one.
“Um, no.” Kurt said. And looked at Blaine. “Not exactly.”
“It depends how you define getting hitched…” Blaine added. “If you take it in the Renaissance sense, the two people saying their vows, promising each other to be faithful, and loving…” Blaine drifted off. Yeah, it wasn’t the first time they thought about this. Neither of them addressed it, but in a way, yes, it was a ceremony the previous night. For them it was as real as it gets.
“We just wanted to show you this. And ask if you’d be our witness…” and with that Kurt held out the piece of paper they wrote last night. She looked at it, and it didn’t take her long to realize, these were their mutual vows.
We promise to give each other space to let the other be his own person
We promise not to forget to go on date nights
We promise total honesty
We promise not to leave in the middle of an argument
We promise to try and keep this fire alive for as long as we can, because it’s the best thing that has ever happened to us
“Of course I’ll be your witness. I’m honored, actually. And boys, I’m very happy for you. Seriously.” said Kate. Blaine held out another paper to Kate, and when she looked at it, she could see it was a picture of the boys, an intimate shot. She appreciated it, but it was clear the real meaning was only for Kurt and Blaine to grasp. The picture didn’t show their faces, only their upped bodies, in a way that oozed trust, love, admiration. It wasn’t erotic, but tender, necks and shoulders aligned in a way that the proximity was almost creating a full unity, and at the center of the picture was a gesture, a hand placed on a chest. She could almost hear their (shared) heartbeat just by looking at the photo. She couldn’t have understood everything, poor girl, but that was okay. She appreciated that they tried to include her, and it worked. On some level. But she knew full well, there will be things between these two she’ll never be let in on. Lovingly, encouragingly, she decided to joke it away, in a teasing manner. “Okay, my new favorite married couple, and how was the consummation…”
She really did mean it as a joke, and was already turning back to what she was doing, and she missed the next few moment, when the boys got lost once again in each other’s eyes, sharing their moments, and memories of the previous night.
Because yes, they couldn’t exactly talk about it to Kate, it was still fresh, and much too personal to share. And they sort of wanted to keep that part of the night to themselves anyway. But yes, a powerful, overwhelming image flushed into their heads, about the way they shared and spent the most special part of last night together. How it was everything they’ve ever dreamed of, and how even the words complete and perfect seemed dull describing what they had.
They blushed furiously under each other’s gaze, and couldn’t help the shy smiles when Kate, sensing the tense silence, looked back up to their faces.
“It was okay…” Kurt said, teasing her a little. What else could he have said?
There was no way they could explain that what they found earlier the previous night was everything. And with all its familiarity and comfort it did held surprises and an element of the unknown. But after their vows, both felt safe and at home with the other, and couldn’t think of one reason to separate for the night. And neither regretted it, because it was everything they could ever hope for.
Because they found in the other what made all the tribulations and potential future struggles worthwhile. They found in each other the absolute certainty, and the pure passion that meant, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be in this moment, but here, with you.

I don't even have words, I loved this story so much. It was brilliant and so different to your typical Kurt and Blaine story, it was just perfect, the way it was written and the way the characters developed was perfect aswell as the pace of the story, I fell in love with Blaine myself while reading it. I know I'll probably be rereading it again in a few weeks. Ok I will stop rambling now, but basically, I loved it, you are really talented.

This was beautiful. The honesty of emotions shines through each scene and makes me love each word. The relationship is very loving and realistic showing the flaws each man has and how they make each other better in their own ways. The balance is lovely. Kurt's final realization was adorable and the talk where they revealed their feelings? Perfect. I think the ending was great. It showed how much they wanted to share things with Kate, but still keep the important parts for themselves. The way things should be.
thank you so much for saying all these lovely things! it means a lot! hugs and kisses! ~ m
