Chapter 8

"Kurt! Kurt, talk to me! Open your eyes, come on!" Blaine was yelling repeatedly, taking Kurt by his waist so he wouldn't fall to the floor.

"Hmm..." Kurt mumbled, with his eyes closed. They were dancing again, when Kurt began to feel dizzy and his knees began to shake. Blaine was holding him and trying to make him walk across the room and go out to the street.

"Kurt, please talk to me!" Blaine insisted, tears starting to form in his eyes. He was terrified, what was happening to Kurt? He managed to take him out of the place and immediately looked around for a cab.

Kurt's eyes snapped open, revealing his dilated pupils. "The night is so dark..." he said, stumbling across the street, still held by his boyfriend. "And it smells good! The night smells good"

Blaine looked at him and put one of Kurt's arms around his shoulders. He saw Kurt closing his eyes again, so he took his chin and shook it. "Baby don't stop talking, stay with me, please!" Blaine was crying now, and there wasn't a damn cab in the street.

"I can talk... and I can sing" Kurt whispered.

"Yes, yes you can" Blaine said, finally spotting a cab. He yelled, raising his arm, and almost stepped in front of it to make sure it would stop. He pushed Kurt into the backseat and yelled at the driver to take them to the nearest hospital.

Kurt settled himself on Blaine's lap and looked out of the window. His eyes were dark and he was starting to sweat. "So many lights... look at them, they're beautiful" Kurt was talking nonsense while Blaine was stroking his hair, looking at him and crying, feeling completely helpless. Kurt looked at him and smiled. It was a distant and weird smile, as if he wasn't in the same place as Blaine.

"You are more beautiful than those lights" Kurt continued talking. "And you are shinier, because you're a star... Whoa, you have stars in your eyes!" he approached his face to Blaine's and tried to touch his eyes with his index finger. Blaine took his hand and pressed it to his lips, without taking his eyes off of Kurt's. "I feel dizzy, Blaine. I feel so dizzy..."

"You're going to be okay soon, baby..." he repeated, trying to convince himself more than Kurt.

They arrived to the hospital and Blaine took Kurt out of the cab, paid the driver and entered the hospital carrying him.

"Please, please help me!" he said, approaching the reception. "I don't know what's happening to him, we were dancing and then he... Please help me" He cried, putting Kurt on his feet again, never releasing him from his arms. Before the receptionist could say a word, a doctor approached them and squeezed Blaine's shoulder.

"Let me see him" he said. "Somebody bring a wheelchair" he said to the nurses that where gathered across the room, while opening Kurt's eyes and examining them.

"Are you looking for stars in my eyes?" Kurt asked to the doctor. "Because he's the one who has them!" he pointed to Blaine and giggled. "Right?"

A brunette nurse came up with a wheelchair and they helped Kurt to sit on it. "He's probably having hallucinations" the doctor said. "Take him to the observation room" he ordered the nurse. She walked away pushing Kurt's wheelchair, and Blaine tried to follow them but the doctor stopped him.

"Has he been drinking or having any other substances?" he asked Blaine, who was only paying attention to the nurse that was taking his boyfriend away from him. The doctor took his chin and made Blaine look at him in the eye. "Answer me, please".

"Uh, he... He had two drinks, just like me" Blaine said, his voice cracked. He was still in shock, he wanted to cry and he wanted to be with Kurt. "Please, I need to be with him" he begged.

"You can't, sorry. Wait here and I'll be right back to inform you" the doctor said, and walked away before Blaine could protest.

Blaine sat down on the floor next to the door where the love of his life had disappeared, and braced his legs. He felt like a child. This was so scary, he had never seen Kurt like this, Kurt was always just fine. He couldn't believe this was happening to him, to them. He began to think about the entire night, searching for the cause of this situation; but his mind was racing and he couldn't think with clarity. Should he call Burt and tell him? He wasn't even in the same city as them, but he was so scared and he needed someone. Wait, he was in Washington this weekend, right? That's 4 hours away by car. And Burt was a politician now, maybe he could take some private jet or something. He took his phone out of his pocket and called Burt.

"Hello? who's this?" Burt answered the phone with a sleepy voice.

"Burt, Burt it's Blaine" Blaine said, trying not to sound too scared.

"Blaine? What's wrong? It's three in the morning" Burt said.

"It's Kurt, he..." Blaine began to explain, but Burt interrupted him.

"He what?? Is he okay?? Burt almost yelled.

"No, I don't know... They won't let me see him. You need to come here" Blaine responded.

"Blaine what's happening to my son!!??" He was yelling now.

"I don't know! We were dancing at a bar and he began to feel dizzy so I brought him to the hospital! Please you need to come, I'm alone and I'm... I'm scared and I don't know what to do" Blaine started to cry again.

"Okay, okay son" Burt tried to calm down. "Listen, I'm taking a private jet. In which hospital are you?"

"I don't know, I need... I need to check" Blaine said between sobs.

"Then check it out and send me a text, okay? Stay calm, son. I'll be there soon." Burt said. He wished he could hug Blaine right now.

"Okay" Blaine nodded, as a tear streamed down his cheek.

Burt hung up the phone. Blaine stood up to check the name of the hospital and he texted it to him. Then he sat in a bench and waited, staring to nothing.

An hour and a half later, Burt Hummel entered the hospital and looked around for Blaine. Blaine saw him first and walked towards him.

"Blaine" Burt said, and hugged him tightly.

"Burt..." he wanted to cry again, but he was so tired he couldn't even do it.

"Do we know anything?" Burt asked him, taking his shoulders.

Blaine shook his head slowly. "They won't say anything to me..." he said, looking down to the ground.

"I'll try to find out something. Why don't you go to that coffee machine and get us some?" he said, pointing at it.

Blaine nodded and walked to the machine while Burt approached the reception to ask for his son. A moment later, the doctor who had taken care of Kurt appeared through the door.

"Kurt Hummel family?" he asked.

Blaine forgot about the coffee and he and Burt ran to him, their eyes filled with worry.

"I'm his father" Burt said. "How is he, is he okay?"

"He's fine" the doctor said, looking at Burt. "He has to stay here for the night, and I need to ask you some questions" he said to Blaine.

Blaine let out a relieved sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "Can I see him, please?" he asked, feeling desperate now.

"Yes, he is awake now, but I need you to answer my questions before" the doctor said. "You can go and see him meanwhile" the doctor added, looking at Burt.

A nurse guided Burt through a corridor and the doctor made Blaine follow him to an empty room near there.

"Well, uh..." the doctor began to say, realizing he didn't know the boy's name.

"Blaine" he said, and took a seat.

"Well Blaine" the doctor smiled. "Kurt is perfectly fine now, but I need to know exactly what has he had tonight."

"Uhm... He had two cosmos. He didn't even finish the second one, I think. Yeah, I didn't let him because he was nervous." Blaine said.

"He had something else. I don't know what, but he did have some type of drug" the doctor said.

"Drugs? But..." Blaine asked, surprised.

"You two seem to be nice boys" the doctor interrupted him, noticing Blaine's annoyed face. "I'm not saying he did it on purpose" he explained. "Look Blaine, I see this happening every day. The most probably thing is that someone else put a pill in his drink when he wasn't looking. Did you leave your drinks unattended at any time?"

Blaine frowned, trying to remember. "I think... Yeah, we left our table to go for a dance and then we went back. I didn't continue drinking but he did, that's when I took the drink from him." He said.

"You said he was nervous so you took his drink away. Why was he nervous?" the doctor asked.

Blaine sighed. He was tired and didn't want to talk, he wanted to be with Kurt.

"Please, it's important" the doctor insisted.

Blaine sighed again. "We ran into a guy we know while we were dancing. He doesn't like Kurt, he was drunk and was rude to him. We got angry and I told him to leave" he said.

"Did you watch him leave?" the doctor asked.

"No, he turned around and got lost in the crowd".

"And then you two went back to your table, and Kurt had his second drink. Am I right?" he asked.

"Yes" Blaine said.

"Well... I think he did it" the doctor said.

Blaine remained silent for a while, thinking about Sebastian. Could he do something like that? He was drunk, he was rude to Kurt and he did try to hurt him in the past. But was he on drugs?

"Think about it" the doctor said, interrupting Blaine's thoughts. "You can see him now, but don't stress him by telling him about this conversation. Save it for later, okay? And Blaine, never leave your drinks unattended again" he added.

Blaine nodded and the doctor let him leave. He walked through the corridor and found Burt coming out from Kurt's room.

"He's asking for you" Burt half-smiled at Blaine and put a hand on his shoulder. "You stay with him tonight, he gave me the keys to your apartment and I'm going there. Thank you for calling me, and thank you for taking care of my son" he said, and hugged him.

Blaine hugged him back and entered the room cautiously once Burt was left. Kurt was lying in the hospital bed and he had his eyes closed.

Blaine approached him and Kurt opened his eyes slightly as he heard his steps.

"Hi..." Kurt whispered, a tired smile forming on his face.

"Hi, baby..." Blaine whispered back, caressing Kurt's cheek like it was made from the most fragile porcelain.

"Hold me, please..." Kurt said, moving slowly to the edge of the bed so Blaine could lie beside him.

Blaine took off his shoes and lay down, before taking his boyfriend in his arms. Kurt rested his head on Blaine's chest and breathed deeply.

"I love you so much, Kurt" Blaine whispered, kissing Kurt's forehead and burying his nose in his hair, breathing in Kurt's scent.

"I love you too..." Kurt said, cuddling him.

Blaine kept stroking Kurt's hair, caressing his cheeks, his arms, his back; holding him like he was the most precious thing in the world, until they fell asleep out of sheer exhaustion.
