When he arrived, Blaine scurried inside the hospital, trying to avoid the rain from hitting his paper bags.
----
Kurt saw Blaine in the hallway, from his room. Blaine, catching his breathe, Kurt couldn’t help but smile. Blaine had two bags, his hair was wet from the rain, and Kurt thought about how his boyfriend’s jacket fit him perfectly. He couldn’t help but think about how Blaine looked like a knight-in-shining armor in that moment, as if he had just ran a marathon in the rain and was ready to save the day.
The rest of the Hummels turned around to find the source of Kurt’s smile.
“I brought dinner!” Blaine said with a half smile, his eyes lighting up, and his eyebrows raised. It was the first time Kurt had seen Blaine’s eyes light up in weeks, he had almost forgotten how utterly beautiful he looked when his iridescent eyes danced like that.
Blaine walked in, almost with a skip, and set the bags down, by the wall, fishing things out. His enthusiasm made Kurt giggle a little. Blaine pulled out different containers, handing them off to Finn, naming off different pastas, salads, and side dishes. “I can’t cook, otherwise..” he said, pulling out plastic forks, napkins, and paper plates.
“So, what does everyone want? I bought a little of everything,” he said, still smiling and out of breathe.
“Alfredo!” Kurt chimed.
“I think I’ll take some too,” Carole said, “You didn’t have to-”
“I wanted to!” Blaine said, “I-uh wanted to say thank you. For literally everything.”
Blaine and Finn dished up dinner for everyone as they chatted and laughed. For the first time, things seemed simple, not certain, but simple.
------
Finn, Burt and Carole had left the hospital, since they had work and school the next day. Blaine stayed sitting in the chair occupying Kurt’s room. Blaine had been watching Kurt watch TV. He couldn’t concentrate on the television when something so beautiful laid there, so close.
Kurt didn’t notice though, instead he flipped through the channels, being extra cautious to avoid the news. Finally Kurt turned the television off, bored with the channels. He turned his head away from the chairs and door, looking out the window. It was still raining lightly outside.
“Kurt?” Blaine said softly.
“Yeah?” Kurt said, turning his head to the boy.
“Will you talk to me? Just say something. I want to hear your voice.”
Kurt smiled, lightly and tired, but it wasn’t a forced smile. “Sure, what do you want me to say?”
“Anything,” Blaine said, closing his eyes.
“The stars are beautiful?” he said, turning back to the window, “They sorta-uh remind me of your eyes,” Kurt’s face blushed and he was happy Blaine’s eyes were closed so he couldn’t see it.
Blaine smiled, “Tell me more,”
“What happened with your parents?” Kurt said, looking at his boyfriend. Blaine opened his eyes, looking back at him.
Blaine looked worried. They had skirted around the conversation. Blaine only telling Kurt he didn’t feel like talking about it or that he had moved out. But now they were here, now they had been through this and Blaine knew it was finally time for him to let it all out. Kurt had told Blaine about his mom, everything he had been through and now it time to finally let Kurt in completely. To reveal his own secrets.
“When I was a freshman,” Blaine started. His face brought Kurt back to the time they were at Breadstix and Kurt had asked him to prom. Blaine had told him about a dance that had gone horribly wrong and he seemed broken but still strong.
“The night that I came out to my parents, it didn’t go as I had planned. I had already come out at school and the bullying was getting to me. I needed someone to talk to and I thought I would find that in my own parents. But, I told them and my dad instantly left the room and my mother began sobbing. I think my father had gone to the kitchen and threw a few dishes. My mother began talking to herself, about how I was ‘Never going to marry or have children’. That she ‘Wasn’t going to have any grandkids.’ And as much as I wanted to correct her and tell her there was still adoption or marriage in some states, I was somewhat in shock. My dad ended up leaving, just drove off without a word and my mother... looked at me and said, ‘why?’ then she locked herself in her bedroom. I had never seen them like that, ever.”
“So I went to bed... and the next morning, my bags were packed. Lined up by the front door,” Blaine was still staring into Kurt’s eyes, both of them trying to choke back tears.
“My parents are wealthy, so they handed me a credit card and told me I was going to stay at Dalton Academy. That I wouldn’t be bullied, anymore. But it was obvious that they only wanted me gone. That they didn’t want the neighbors to find out or their clients. They didn’t care about the bullying or how I felt, only shipping me off to hide it, as if I was a disgrace.”
“Blaine,” Kurt said, trying to comfort him. He knew that no one had gotten this far. That Kurt was the only one that had ever heard this story.
“They don’t call or send me anything. They just pay my bills and tuition and they keep their mouths closed. I wonder what they tell people, I wonder if they lie. People at my school knew I was gay and I wonder if they told them.. it was a phase or some ridiculous thing like that,” Blaine was trying to not look away from Kurt, but he felt ashamed.
“Blaine, I’m so sorry,” Kurt shook his head, his eyes now soft and a single tear fell down his porcelain skin.
“Kurt?” Blaine walked over to his bed, grabbing his hand, “What are you- Don’t cry!”
“But that’s so sad,” Kurt let out shaking his head.
“I know, but Kurt. I found you, And if I could go back in time, I wouldn’t change anything. Because this, this right here. Being here with you, holding your hand. I’ve never felt anything like this and if it wasn’t for them shipping me off, I would have never met you,” Blaine bit his lip, still staring into Kurt’s eye.
Kurt wrapped his fingers in Blaine’s curls, twisting them around his fingers. He lightly pulled Blaine in, and kissed him, sweetly, beautifully. He kissed him, trying to fill the empty in Blaine with love, with happiness. Trying to replace what Blaine had lost. He had finally understood why Blaine had broken down so easily from the shooting. Without Kurt, Blaine had nothing. And Kurt realized he need him just as badly.
