Kurt was eager to see Blaine again, which made the morning of rehearsal on Monday go slow. The scene they were going over didn't include Bert, so Kurt sat in the dressing room, reading his lines over and over.
The cast had become incredibly close over the past week, and there were only three short weeks until opening night.
The costumes were being finalized, the makeup being tested out, the sets were put up on the stage.
Finally, the cast and crew were dismissed for lunch.
"You have two hours! Don't be late!" the director called out as everyone was heading toward the door, like he always did.
When Kurt approached Anderson's, he was thrilled to notice that no one was occupying any of the seats.
Blaine looked up and smiled as Kurt entered, setting off the chimes above the door.
"Hey, Kurt. I'll get your mocha ready for you, just give me a second," Blaine was wiping down the counter behind the register.
"Wait," Kurt said, looking up at the menu, "What would you recommend? You always have a cup of something, what is it?"
"Oh, yeah. I always make myself a medium drip. It's my favorite," Blaine nodded his head.
"Well then! I'll have a nonfat mocha, and a medium drip, in that case," Kurt slid his card over the counter.
Blaine chuckled as he swiped the card and handed it back, "That's quite a lot of coffee, but suit yourself!"
Since he knew it wouldn't take long, Kurt waited by the register, a little nervous, tapping his fingers on the counter, until Blaine brought out two mugs from the back room.
"Here you are! One nonfat mocha and one medium drip."
Kurt slid the medium drip back over the granite surface, "Take it, it's on me."
Blaine looked confused, his eyebrows scrunched together.
"I see that you pay for your own drinks. You always swipe your card before you come sit with me. Not today. It's on me," Kurt repeated, pushing the drink closer to Blaine.
"That's really sweet, thanks. But I can't let you do that. You get," Blaine shuffled over a few steps and looked over his display case, pulling out a large chocolate chip cookie and holding it out for Kurt to take, "this. In return."
"I absolutely can't resist chocolate chip cookies. You've found my weakness," Kurt smiled and grabbed the cookie, immediately sinking his teeth into a bite of it. "Mph," Kurt's eyes slid shut, "This is amazing!"
"Let's go sit," Blaine walked over and sat at a small table, and Kurt followed after.
"Thanks for the cookie," Kurt nodded toward the already half-eaten dessert.
"Thank you," Blaine replied, resting his elbow on the table and his cheek is his hand, looking at Kurt.
There were a few moments of silence, while Blaine held Kurt's gaze, until Kurt dropped his head, his cheeks flushing.
"What?" Kurt asked, his eyes fixed on his lap.
Blaine's eyes didn't waver, "Let me take you out."
Kurt's head snapped back up. He only ever thought a boy like Blaine would ask him out in his dreams.
"Really, Kurt. I want to take you out. For lunch. For dinner. A movie. I don't care."
"Yeah. Okay," Kurt responded with a small smile forming on his lips, all the air knocked out of his lungs.
Blaine's face lit up, his eyes gleaming, "Yeah, okay," he repeated, "Okay. Can I take you out to dinner? It doesn't have to be fancy."
"Okay," Kurt's face hurt from smiling so big and for so long.
"The Wagon?" Blaine asked.
It was a local restaurant, set up to look like an old fashion horse-pulled wagon. It wasn't fancy, but it wasn't a dump.
"That's perfect."
"Are you free this Saturday?"
He was free this Saturday, but he really didn't want to wait that long. He nodded his head, "Yeah. Saturday is good."
Blaine cleared his throat, "But you'll still come by, for lunch this week, right?"
Kurt rolled his eyes, "Of course. If you think I only came here to get you to ask me out, you're half wrong."
"Half?" Blaine's eyebrows went up.
Kurt responded by grinning and tilting his head to the side, "Only half."
Another minute went by without any noise, and to Kurt's own dismay, he realized that he had to get back to rehearsal. "I've got to go. But, I'll see you tomorrow," he turned on his heels and started walking toward the door.
He stopped abruptly, turning back around and walking toward Blaine, bending down and placing a light kiss on his cheek, "And thank you," he saw Blaine's face swell with color, and then he walked back out of the cafe with a wide smile on his face.
The rest of rehearsal went by quickly, Kurt's head swimming with ideas of his upcoming date. And the fact that he had a date at all. And that it was Blaine that had asked him out.
Not that it wasn't obvious that there was something between them, because it was. It was that Kurt had always refused to make the first move, and he took a risk by paying for Blaine's drink. It wasn't something he normally did, but he figured that if Blaine never made a move, it would be figured as a friendly gesture.
But it was the perfect thing to do, since it made Blaine ask him out.

Kurt was nervous on Tuesday. Did Blaine asking him out mean they'd act like they were seeing each other? Or was it going to stay the same until they actually went on their date?
When Kurt walked into the coffee shop, every table and the sofa were occupied, but his mocha was sitting on the ledge behind the display case.
"Hiya, Kurt. You can come around the back, I've got a couple of extra stools," Blaine said, his focus on counting the change for a woman who just paid for her order.
Kurt seated himself right in front of his drink, pulling another stool next to him so Blaine could sit.
They talked for a while about shows they both watched on television the night before. When the conversation came to an end, Kurt decided in his mind that he would let Blaine pick the next topic. So he waited until Blaine spoke again.
"How are you?" Blaine asked, looking up, the bags under his eyes much more pronounced than they usually were.
"Rehearsal has been going well. The show is really almost ready. We're just making finishing touches for the next few weeks... Are you okay? You seem tired," Kurt's hand twitched, he wanted to grab Blaine's hand, or rest it on his thigh. Something to comfort him, but he didn't know if he'd be crossing any lines.
Blaine's body relaxed and he smiled, "I just couldn't sleep last night. Hasn't happened in years, so I'm just exhausted."
"Why couldn't you sleep?"
"I was just, thinking, I guess," Blaine's eyelids were heavy with sleep.
Kurt nudged Blaine's leg with his knee so he would stay awake, "Anything you want to talk about?"
"It wasn't- I didn't mean-" Blaine's eyes were fully open again, "It was nothing bad. I just-I was thinking about yesterday."
"Oh," Kurt was shocked. Surprised. Thrilled. "Good to know I'm not the only one."
Blaine smiled at Kurt's words, "You do look a little sleepy."
Kurt giggled, his eyes crinkling in delight, and then he sighed, "I've got to go in a minute."
They both stood from their stools, standing just a few inches away from each other.
"I'll see you tomorrow," Kurt said.
Blaine reached out and wrapped his arms around Kurt in a tight embrace, Kurt looping his arms around the back of Blaine's neck, squeezing gently.
"See ya tomorrow," Blaine said as they untangled themselves from one another.
Kurt walked out of the cafe, swinging his hips more than necessary. Because that hug was more than a 'you're-a-really-good-friend' hug, and that made Kurt more than happy. He was elated.

When Kurt got home that evening, he was still out of breath and was utterly exhausted from the dance number he finished mere minutes ago, but he skipped over to his wall calendar, marking a big 'X' through that day.
"Three more days. Just three more days."
