Author's Notes: So this is the third story in the "Chance" series. You'll need to have read An Accidental Chance and Chances Are for this one to make any sense. For a long time, I said that I was done with this verse. I had burned myself out and wasn't sure I wanted to come back to it, no matter how much I love it. Finally, after much discussion with my betas and an itch to write something, I decided that was going to come back here, to finish out Kurt and Blaine's story in this verse. I mean, Cooper Anderson didn't even exist when I started writing these!! :D

There's a lot(I mean A LOT)of meta here. Fandom tropes, in jokes, and real life cast member events may be twisted to suit my purposes for this fic (except for what happened with Cory. That will not happen in any way in this verse and Finn is very much alive, if in the background, for those that need that warning). As a whole, it's largely an AU of season four. Warnings and ratings may vary by chapter.

Warnings: Meta (Lots of it), Inaccuracies with regards to film/television industry, Inaccuracies with living in New York, Infidelity (not Kurt or Blaine)
Spring 2013

Dreams were funny things, Blaine decided. His whole life, he’d wanted nothing more than to just get away from his father. In doing so, he’d discovered a passion for acting and had somehow become an award winning actor. Not a bad thing for a kid who’d once dreamed of lighting up Broadway.

He’d spent most of his childhood avoiding his father, wondering why it was that Carl Anderson couldn’t love him. It hadn’t been too terrible when Blaine was younger – his father had pushed and pushed him to do better but he hadn’t become mean and disapproving until Blaine had come out. So it was quite shocking now, the almost decent relationship he had with his father.

He’d once dreamed of falling in love. Of finding that perfect someone just for him – but Blaine had never once imagined it would be Kurt that he would end up with. In his wildest dreams, he could never have fantasized their meeting or what Kurt would come to mean to him.

He stared at the bouquet of yellow and red roses he was holding in his hand and smiled. He left the condo and headed out to the car waiting for him on the busy New York street outside the building.

He had to go see another dream come true.

Fall 2012

Get your New York Life scoop here! This just in – which hunk of the new show might be leaving before it even really gets started?

If you guess Sebastian Smythe, you’d be right!! That’s right, fangirls, one half of Joby will be gone.

I: So you’re leaving the show?

SS: I am. *laughs* I got offered a great part in an upcoming Ben Affleck movie and I couldn’t turn it down. Everyone here at NYL has been amazing about it. I’m probably going to miss about six to eight episodes, give or take.

I: What does this mean for Joby?

SS: *winks* You’ll have to watch and find out!

What?

WHAT IS THIS?

Torn between screaming with joy and crying my eyes out.

Thank God he’s leaving – I didn’t want him on the spin off. I’ve hated him ever since he and Blaine supposedly kissed.

Don’t bring your ship wars into this. And they did kiss, there’s photographic evidence.

There shouldn’t be ship wars because Blaine is with Kurt and they’re in love and happy. Can we bring this back around to what it means for Joby? Do you guys think they’re going to break up?!

I think so. Six to eight episodes? There’s no way that they can have him gone for that long and not milk the shit out of it.

What she said.

A million times this.

My shipper heart is breaking while my fangirl heart is doing the Dance of Joy.

Sometimes it’s hard to be fangirl. #fangirl problems

“Good morning,” Blaine greeted, coming out of the bedroom, kissing Kurt lightly on the cheek. He walked around where Kurt was sitting at the table and stepped into the kitchen, pouring himself a hot cup of coffee. He added some cream and sugar and then sat down in front of the plate of toast with jam Kurt had setting out for him.

“Are you excited for today?”

“It’s the first official day of classes,” Kurt murmured. “I’m pretty sure I’m going to throw up, I’m so nervous.”

“They’ll love you,” Blaine assured him. Kurt had been practicing non-stop since they’d moved to the city, even going down to a local dance studio. He’d also taken to hitting up karaoke bars to keep his performing skills alive. Blaine joined him sometimes, but it was really hard for them when he went out, because of the crowds they tended to draw. Kurt was much less noticeable when he was by himself.

“Are you ready for today?” Kurt asked. Blaine smiled.

“Filming in Central Park?” Blaine replied. “It’s going to be insane.”

“You love it,” Kurt told him, laughing. “I wish I could come see it.” Kurt had practically been a staple on set since filming had started nearly two months ago, stopping by at least once a day to visit or catch a meal with Blaine and the others when they were on break.

“You need to concentrate on school,” Blaine said.

Finn staggered out of his room just then, his hair a scraggly mess, a pair of lounge pants slung low on his hips. “Morning,” he mumbled, going into the kitchen. Blaine watched as he opened the cabinet and pulled out a box of pop tarts and brought it to the table.

“Good morning, Finn,” Blaine replied, smiling and shaking his head. He took a bite of his toast, the crunching sound completely drowned out by Finn opening the crinkling package of the pop tarts.

Kurt glanced up from the laptop and raised an eyebrow in Finn’s direction. Learning to live together had been an experience for all three of them. Blaine hadn’t lived with anyone in a long time, and while Kurt and Finn were familiar with living together, the condo was a lot smaller than they were used to and Blaine knew they felt crowded.

Still, Finn’s next words were a shock.

“So,” he began. “I’m moving out.”

“What?” Kurt snapped, staring at him in surprise.

“Don’t yell,” Finn said. “I’ve been talking about it with Rachel. Her roommate is horrible and you guys need your own space. She and I are going to get a place together.”

“You must be joking,” Kurt muttered. Blaine put a hand on top of Kurt’s to calm him down.

“If that’s what’s best for you and Rachel, then Kurt and I are happy for you,” Blaine told Finn. “You can stay as long as you need to, though.”

“Thanks, man.” Finn smiled, taking several bits of his breakfast and chewing quickly as he talked. “We’ll probably move within the week though, because Rachel can get part of her room and board tuition refunded if she’s out of the dorm by next week.”

With that, Finn shoved the last of his pop tart into his mouth and ambled back to his room, presumably to get dressed.

Kurt yawned, closing his laptop.

“What’s the latest?” Blaine asked, gesturing to the now closed device.

“They announced Sebastian’s movie,” Kurt answered. “The fandom is torn between wanting to die over a potential Joby break up and being happy for his career.”

“Sounds about right,” Blaine chuckled.

“I, for one, will be glad to see him go,” Kurt informed him. Blaine knew there was no love lost between Kurt and Sebastian, especially after Sebastian had forced a kiss on Blaine and it had been caught on camera. The fallout had resulted in his and Kurt’s temporary split. Sebastian wasn’t exactly his favorite person either, if he was honest with himself. He was a professional though, and could keep that to himself while still acting lovey-dovey with Sebastian on camera.

“He’ll still be around for another few months,” Blaine reminded him. “He’ll be gone in November.”

“Music to my ears,” Kurt chirped, sipping the last of his coffee and standing up. “Shouldn’t you be getting ready? Don’t want to be late for the hordes of fangirls that will be stalking you today.”

The front door buzzed and Blaine jumped, startled.

“I’ll see who it is,” Kurt offered. “You go, or you’ll be late.”

Blaine shoved the last of his breakfast into his mouth and ducked into the bedroom, slipping into jeans and a polo shirt. He fielded a phone call from the doorman, who let him know the car was there to pick him up.

When Blaine went back into the living room, he was greeted with a hug and kiss from Kurt.

“They’re gorgeous, Blaine,” Kurt breathed out, gesturing to the large vase of yellow and red roses now displayed on their dining room table.

“I’m glad you like them,” Blaine said, smiling. He’d wanted to do something nice for Kurt’s first day.

“Thank you,” Kurt replied, kissing him long and slow.

“No fair,” he whined. “You can’t just do that when I have to leave.”

“All’s fair in love and war, sweetie,” Kurt replied, grinning mischievously. “Go, you’re gonna be late.” Blaine pouted. “I’ll make it up to you later,” Kurt promised, “now go.” Blaine smiled and opened the door and started to go through it.

The feel of Kurt’s hand slapping him on the ass startled him and he turned around in the hallway to start at his boyfriend. Kurt let out a laugh and shrugged. “Have a nice day!”

Blaine chuckled and headed for the elevator. He hoped they wrapped early today – he wasn’t going to be able to think about anything else but coming home to Kurt.

Kurt laughed to himself as he scrolled through Tumblr on his phone, taking a quick break from his dance practice to catch his breath. He’d wanted to check in on the goings on at the filming today, to take his mind off things in between his classes. He didn’t really like the idea of Sebastian and Blaine kissing, but he’d become accustomed to the idea – after all it was Blaine’s job and Toby was James’ boyfriend and it was unrealistic to imagine they would never kiss.

Kurt made sure that Blaine never knew how much it really bothered him.

He and Rachel’s schedules didn’t quite mesh, but they did have dance class together that afternoon, which he was looking forward too.

He took a quick minute to send off a tweet.

@BlaineAnderson [picture] Thank you for my lovely flowers.

His phone buzzed with a new tweet alert a moment later and he smiled as he read it.

@KurtHummel Are you tired yet? You’ve been running around my mind all day.

He was pretty sure Tumblr was going to riot again in a second, but he couldn’t help but respond.

@BlaineAnderson You can’t see it, but I’m giving you a look.

@KurtHummel I can feel your glare from here, darling. ;) I love you.

@BlaineAnderson I love you, too.

“I can’t believe we’re actually here,” James said, looking around at the tress in Central Park. “We’re all here, in New York.”

“It’s amazing,” Toby agreed. “The best part is that I’m here with you.”

“I couldn’t agree more,” James replied. “I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t gotten into NYU.”

“We would have worked it out, James,” Toby replied. “But luckily, I am here, and it’s a new beginning.”

“To our new beginning,” James offered up his soda can in toast.

Toby clinked it with his own and then smiled. “I think I know a better way to toast our arrival?”

“Oh?” James asked, eyebrows raised. Toby leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to his lips.

Kurt turned his iPod back on, slipping the ear buds in his ears and losing himself in the movements, going over the steps learned in class that afternoon. If the dressing down Rachel had received by their teacher (the infamous Cassandra July) was anything to go by, he was going to have to work so much harder in that class. Rachel had left an hour ago to go meet Finn and look at apartments, but Kurt had wanted to keep practicing.

He lost track of how long he’d been dancing, finally slowing to a stop, feeling wound down.

The sound of someone clapping got his attention and he jerked his head up, pulling the ear buds out in his surprise.

There was a blond guy in the doorway to the studio.

“I didn’t mean to startle you,” the guy said, his voice thick with an English accent. “You sound amazing.”

Kurt hadn’t realized he’d been singing along. He blushed. “Thank you.”

“I haven’t seen you here before,” the guy continued. “I’m Adam Crawford.”

“Kurt,” Kurt replied. “Kurt Hummel. I’d offer to shake hands but I’m kind of gross right now.”

“No worries,” Adam responded.

“And you haven’t seen me because I’m part of the fall Freshman class,” Kurt told him. “You?”

“Senior,” Adam answered. “I guess I’ll be seeing you around.”

“Maybe,” Kurt said. His phone buzzed, and he grabbed it out of his bag.

Taking a dinner break in about a half hour so. Join us?

He smiled at the text from Blaine. Kurt quickly typed out his agreement and picked up his bag.

“It was nice to meet you,” he told Adam. “I’ve gotta run, I’m meeting my boyfriend for dinner.”

“Must be a great guy to put a smile like that on your face,” Adam commented.

“The best,” Kurt confirmed. He waved and headed for the door, hoping he had time to grab a shower before finding Blaine’s filming location.

*

“And cut!” Blaine pulled back at the director’s words, wiping his mouth as he did so. He didn’t really want to tell Sebastian that kissing him was like kissing a dog, but sometimes…

He saw Kurt out of the corner of his eye as the director called a break time. The nearby crowd of fangirls was watching his every move and their voices grew louder as he headed in Kurt’s direction, and they realized Kurt was among the crowd.

“Hi,” Blaine greeted Kurt. “I’m glad you came.”

“I couldn’t pass up dinner with you after the day I had.” Kurt replied, briefly filling Blaine in on school and what happened in dance class between Rachel and the teacher. “I’m glad I took a shower though, this place is insane.”

Blaine laughed. “Yeah, it’s been like this all day.”

They grabbed food from the service table and found seats. “How many cameras are going off right now?” Kurt asked as they sat down.

“Oh, only all of them,” Blaine answered. Kurt snorted, digging into his food.

Blaine sighed happily as he listened to Kurt talk. He could spend the rest of his life having moments just like this – he and Kurt, just sitting and talking.

If he had anything to say about it, they would.

“How much longer do you think you’ll be?”

“Umm,” Blaine began, thinking. “We have a musical number to shoot once it gets dark, and then we’ll be done.”

“Wow.” Kurt shook his head. They finished their food quickly, the director calling them back after a few more minutes. Kurt got up, dusting off his pants. “I’ll keep the bed warm for you,” he promised.

“I’ll hold you to that,” Blaine murmured, staring at him. He wished very much that he and Kurt were at home, that he could do everything in the fantasies playing out in his head at the current moment.

Blaine at least had to kiss him, and he leaned forward slowly.

“You realize if you do this, the entire internet will see it?” Kurt whispered.

“Don’t care,” Blaine muttered, pulling Kurt close and kissing him thoroughly. Kurt was blushing bright red when they broke the kiss, backing away from Blaine slowly. He gave a little wave and then slipped off through the crowd.

*

"You would never believe the posts that I saw earlier," Kurt greeted, sniffing his vase of red and yellow roses as Blaine walked in the door. “I almost texted you about it.”

"What, no hello?" Blaine asked with raised eyebrows. Kurt kissed Blaine hello, even though it’d only been a few hours since he’d seen him. “Now continue.”

"Once the initial filming riot passed, there was a riot about the flowers you sent me. Basically ended up being something about you giving me flowers and how they're symbols of love and friendship but because they're cut flowers, they're basically dead so it's also a symbol of death or something," Kurt began, watching Blaine's expression turn to one of disbelief.

“And there was something about potted plants versus cut flowers. Somehow that delved into a discussion of our first meal together - when we went out for pizza -" Blaine nodded, his mouth falling into an 'O' shape. "I think I even saw something comparing you to a serial killer for the whole 'gifting me with a symbol of death' thing."

"What?" Blaine exclaimed.

"I don't know, but I'm suddenly feeling the need to re-evaluate my life choices."

"But I just," Blaine stammered out. "I just wanted to get you some roses."

“Take it up with your fangirls, sweetie,” Kurt replied, chuckling. “I have no idea.”

Blaine just shook his head and Kurt laughed. He pulled Blaine close and kissed him again. “I believe you promised me to make things up to me tonight,” Blaine murmured in Kurt’s ear.

“I believe I did,” Kurt agreed, feeling breathless when Blaine’s mouth found his neck and pressed soft kisses along his collarbone. “Finn’s in his room, by the way.”

Blaine took him by the hand and Kurt followed, letting Blaine lead him down the hallway to their door.

As they tumbled into bed together, hands roaming and lips exploring, Kurt knew he’d never get tired of this.

It would be him and Blaine for the rest of his life.
