“Of course it’s a yes, you idiot,” Kurt replied. “I know it’s not… the real thing, but one day it’s gonna be.”

“It is,” Blaine murmured. Kurt smiled and Blaine’s heart skipped a beat. He loved that he could give Kurt so much joy.

Blaine’s father cleared his throat, getting everyone’s attention. “I’ll be in my office,” he said. His face looked pinched and Blaine knew he was just dying to say something. He wouldn’t though – Carl Anderson would never take the risk of alienating “The People’s Congressman,” as the media had nicknamed Burt. He wanted that connection too much.

Blaine felt a kind of sick satisfaction flow through him. He could do whatever he wanted and his father would be stuck, unable to say a bad word against Kurt. It was a whole different kind of freedom. Kurt leaned against him, his head on Blaine’s shoulder in the awkwardness that settled in the room after Blaine’s father departed.

“Oh!” Kurt exclaimed suddenly. “I have the best idea.” He pulled out his phone, held out his left hand and took a picture. “Let’s drive the fangirls wild.”

The sudden influx of text messages from the members of New Directions was completely worth it.

The week passed rapidly, much to Kurt’s dismay. He wasn’t looking forward to being back in Ohio, to being without Blaine. Even though Blaine worked most of the week, Kurt found lots of ways to keep himself entertained. They had a lot of family outings – he and Carole went to a spa and then went shopping (where Kurt put his gift card to good use, coming away with a jacket to die for). The four of them and sometimes Grace would venture out for other holiday related activities as well. Blaine’s father spent most of his time in the study, working. He wasn’t sure if that was something to be relieved about or not.

Kurt knew that Blaine wanted his father to support their relationship, but Carl Anderson’s idea of support seemed to be frowning in their direction without actually saying anything against them.

On Monday, they had indeed gone for breakfast at Tiffany’s. Then Blaine had surprised him by taking him inside the store (which wasn’t even open for business yet – Blaine had arranged it in advance, much to Kurt’s shock), so that they could pick out a promise ring for him as well. He chose something similar to Kurt’s, a platinum band with a single diamond inlay.

They’d spent most of Monday night laughing hysterically at the fangirl freakout they’d caused (which was only added to when Blaine tweeted a picture of his ring). They knew they’d eventually have to set the record straight, but it was kind of fun to stir things up. Jeff and Nick had stopped by to add to the hilarity, and the four of them had stayed up way too late – so late, in fact, that the boys ended up crashing on the couch. Kurt couldn’t remember laughing so hard in his life.

Dalton Star Married?!

Rumors began swirling earlier this week, when Kurt Hummel, boyfriend of Dalton’s Blaine Anderson, tweeted a picture of his left hand. He displayed a ring, on his ring finger. So did the two run off and get married in a Christmas wedding? It certainly seemed that way – both of their families are even in New York with them (including Blaine’s estranged father).

Further speculation churned when Blaine tweeted a picture of his own left hand the following day, also wearing a ring on his ring finger.

So did they get married?

A spokesperson for the couple denies it, stating “Blaine and Kurt are very devoted to each other and those rings are promise rings.”

Something tells me that a wedding probably isn’t too far off in their future.

Tuesday was spent with Carole, Wednesday with his whole family and Grace. Thursday was just him and Finn, exploring New York and checking things out for the coming year – where they might want to try to find a place, where the best coffee places could be, how far from their schools they would be. Finn had applied to Marymount Manhattan College and Kurt couldn’t be more proud of his brother. Finn might not know what he wanted to do with his life, but at least he was going to college.

Friday they stayed in, waiting for Blaine to get home. He was taking them all to see How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying, and Kurt couldn’t wait. Blaine had tried for tickets to Wicked, but it had been sold out. They were even going to get a chance to go backstage and everything. Even Blaine’s father had been persuaded to take the night off and join them.

Kurt loved every minute of the show, including the backstage tour and meeting the cast.
He knew without a doubt that this was what he wanted for his future.

Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Kurt didn’t even mind when paparazzi caught them coming out of the theater – a congressman and an actor were too good for them to pass up, he supposed.

Blaine was in a great mood, going over to them and signing things while they took pictures. They laughed and joked with him and then Blaine was waving him over. “They want a picture of us,” Blaine said.

“Ah,” Kurt replied, cuddling in close to Blaine while the cameras flashed.

“Kiss!” one of the photographers called.

“Oh, what the hell,” Blaine murmured, kissing Kurt lightly on the lips. Kurt was surprised but went with it.

“We gotta go guys, see you later!” Blaine called, waving as they headed for their car. The car was quiet as they headed back to the condo, but Kurt didn’t care. He was too wrapped in his Broadway dreams and Blaine murmuring deliciously naughty things in his ear.

He and Blaine hadn’t actually had any quality time together since arriving in New York. Even though they’d been tempted a few times, Kurt couldn’t bring himself to actually do anything with Blaine’s parents under the same roof. He still snuck into Blaine’s bed every night, going back to his room in the morning before anyone else was up.

He couldn’t wait until they could be truly alone again.

The silence lasted until they got home. Coats were shed as conversation began about the musical and who had liked what, when Blaine noticed his father staring at him.

With a tilt of his father’s head, Blaine understood that his father wanted to speak with him. He watched as his father disappeared down the hall to the study and then kissed Kurt lightly on the cheek. He could feel Kurt’s worried eyes on his back as he went to join his father.

This would not go well.
