Despite the disgusting lunch that day, Dave smiled, feeling proud of himself as he sat down. He looked at the empty seat next to Kurt and lost his smile slightly, his eyebrow rising. "Where's Anderson?" Dave asked as he sat his backpack down in the seat next to him.
Kurt looked at the empty seat and shrugged his shoulders slightly. "Don't know. So how does it feel to be the hero of the school?" Kurt asked as he looked down at his food and lost his smile completely. Disgusting.
Dave smirked. "It feels...different."
"Different like how?"
"I don't know how to act," Dave said with a chuckle, looking around at the people passing by, staring with admiration.
"I got a free round of homework passes for each class, but I guess I'm excited about all this."
"Well lucky you," Blaine said with a friendly, happy voice as he sat down next to Kurt.
Dave frowned and bit into his hot dog with disgust. "So anyways. Homecoming this weekend. Anyone excited?" Dave asked, trying to avoid any subject Blaine would make up.
Kurt sighed. "I've never been to a single homecoming before. So I think I might as well just go."
"Finally giving in?" Blaine asked with a smirk.
"Shut it," Kurt said with a small smile he was trying not to show. His face immediately turned beat red.
Dave saw and frowned again, his face turning defensive. "What do you mean 'giving in'?" Dave asked Blaine directly.
"It was Blaine's idea that I go to Homecoming," Kurt said as he took a careful bite of his hot dog.
Dave looked angry now. Uh oh... Kurt thought as he looked between Blaine and Dave.
"Of course it was," Dave said in a snappy voice.
"Dave," Kurt said with his eyebrows furrowed and a shocked, stern face formed on his expression.
Dave didn't want to make a scene. Nor did he want to get Kurt upset with him. So he sucked in a breath and quickly got up, hurrying away with his backpack and his tray, dumping it in a hurried motion so he could quickly leave the cafeteria.
Blaine scoffed. "What's his problem?" he asked, suddenly seeming upset. Kurt couldn't remember the last time he had seen Blaine this upset.
Kurt gulped louder than usual and stared at his tray. "He doesn't like you."
"Yeah, I get that, but why?"
Kurt hesitated for a moment. "I think it's because...he's afraid that you'll take me away from him."
"What?" Blaine asked in disbelief.
Kurt shrugged. "Dave and I have been friends for a while. And he thinks that since you and I...are becoming friends, that you'll replace him," Kurt tried his best to explain.
Blaine relaxed slightly. "That's why he...dislikes me?" Blaine asked.
Kurt shrugged again as an answer to Blaine's question.
"Wow. If I'd have known any better. I would have thought the guy had a crush on you or something," Blaine said.
Kurt gave Blaine an alarmed face. "That's stupid, Blaine. Dave and I agreed a while back that it'd be weird if something like that ever happened. And besides. I see him too much of a friend to even think about something like that," Kurt said, shaking his head.
The bell rang and Blaine got to his feet. "Sure thing, Kurt."
