"Senior year," Dave murmured. Dave was not one you'd think would be all buddy-buddy with Kurt. He was a large guy that was built of muscles. He was up top on the Football team along side of Finn Hudson (who was Kurt's Brother-in-Law), Mike Chang, and Sam Evans. He had short brown hair and kind hazel eyes that can be mistaken for green at times when his eyes crinkled up with his lips curled into a smile.
"I can't believe this is happening," Kurt said as she shook his head and looked over at Dave.
"Seems like only yesterday I was tossing you into the dumpsters," Dave said with a wide smile and a small set of laughter, causing Kurt to roll his eyes and shake his head with a returned smile.
"Oh gosh, don't even remind me of that. It was scarring enough that a few of my favorite clothes were ruined because of that. But I guess you can consider yourself lucky that I wouldn't fit into them to this day," Kurt said with a joking twist to his tone as he closed his car door and began walking towards the front entrance of the school, Dave walking beside him.
Dave just laughed. Dave and Kurt were the only gay guys in the school, shocking enough to not be dating. Dave and Kurt agreed one time, when someone asked them why they weren't dating, that they saw each other too much of best friends. People laid off after that.
"Maybe Coach Beiste will finally bump me up to quarterback," said Dave as they walked up the steps and opened the doors. "And maybe Coach Sylvester will let you back on the Cheerios?"
Kurt scowled at the Cheerios thought and shook his head, his hands clutching his Marc Jacobs bag as they headed down the halls to the cafeteria where the lists of home rooms were posted. "No doubt Coach Beiste would make you quarterback this year. You deserve it. But as for Coach Sylvester-"
Dave and Kurt froze to a stop as Coach Sylvester appeared before them. Speak of the devil...
"Kurt. We're down one Cheerio since Quinn quit. As much as I hate to admit this with my poor deprived dignity, I need you back on the squad. What do ya' say, Porcelain?" Coach Sylvester said with a snarky attitude. Coach Sylvester was tall, had fair skin, cold blue eyes, forever-short blonde hair, and a fetish for wearing nothing but track suits. Rumor has it that that's all her closet consists of.
Kurt stared at Coach Sylvester with widened eyes and a mouth dropped open. Dave elbowed Kurt in the side to help bring him back to reality. Kurt blinked and nodded his head. "I would be honored, Coach Sylvester."
"Perfect. Come with me to my office so I can give you your uniform. You'll need to know the routine for tomorrow's pep rally for the first football game of the season. So you'll have to stay after school," Coach Sylvester explained as she motioned her head in the direction of her office.
Kurt smiled widely and looked at Dave. "I'll see you at lunch. Hopefully we'll have classes together this year," he said as he waved goodbye.
"Yeah, hopefully. And see you later," Dave said with a smile, awkwardly waving back.
The day passed by in an exciting haze. Dave got what he wished for, being promoted to the quarterback for tomorrow's game. And Kurt staid after school for three hours. One hour for glee club and then two to get the routine down by heart for tomorrow's pep rally. Kurt and Dave happily had their lunch hour, French, Study Hall, and Biology III together. Dave's ride home was Kurt, so he didn't mind waiting an extra hour for Kurt to finish with Cheerios. He brought a book with him and got to spend some of that hour calling his father, who was at work and would be gone until Dave's bed time, and told him about his football promotion. His father was so proud of him. Kurt dropped Dave off home and hurried to his own home so he could take a shower, eat, take a pain killer for his sore muscles, and get his homework done (hopefully by twelve so he could get to bed).
Kurt sat at the kitchen island, taking a bite of his spinach lasagna he cooked for dinner while his eyes were trained on the kitchen's television that played a replay of Project Runway when his father entered the kitchen. He had been eating with Finn in the living room while watching some football game. Carole had left an hour ago for her night shift at the Lima Hospital for her position as a nurse.
"How was your first day back at school?" Burt, his father, asked as he opened the fridge and took out a new bottle of Black and Tan beer.
Kurt looked at his father and shrugged. "Pretty good actually. Quinn luckily quit, so Coach Sylvester gave me a spot back on the Cheerios," Kurt replied.
Burt nodded his head and smiled. "I'm glad to hear it, kid," he said in an approving tone. "So did you see that Anderson kid at all?" Burt then asked as he walked over and stood before Kurt, unaware that he was blocking sight of the television. Kurt swayed from side to side to see if he could try and see what was happening on the tv. No luck.
Kurt slightly tilted his head and pushed his eyebrows together as he focused in on his father. "Anderson? Oh! Blaine Anderson? No, why?" Kurt asked, realization that Blaine Anderson's remaining existance hitting him.
"Heard he's back from Westerville today," Burt said as he opened his beer bottle and took a swig of it.
"Oh. Well I didn't see him," Kurt said in a light tone, shrugging his shoulders. Curiosity soon began spreading through his blood flow.
