Kurt was in his tux. Pristine, black, and classic with a pink flower pinned to his front chest pocket that matched the one Blaine wore. Kurt and Blaine wore the same colored bow ties, a soft powder pink, but their waistcoats were different. Blaine's was black and Kurt's was a soft red that coordinated perfectly with the pink. Their theme was love. And what better way to go with their date theme than pink and red?
Blaine was back in the gym as Kurt sat in one of the empty classrooms, sitting at one of the two-person tables next to Dave with his hands before him. He sighed and looked over at Dave. "You are...my best friend, Dave. I don't want that to be anything more," Kurt said honestly, looking at Dave in the eyes.
Dave wore his Prom King crown, a simple black tux, bright red tie and black waistcoat. Kurt had to admit, he looked handsome, but in a friend-like way. His expression was unthinkable. Confusion, heartbreak, disappointment, and...maybe some anger?
It was no shock that Dave was crowned Prom King after his heroic act towards the shooter so many days ago. Quinn Febray (no shocker there) was crowned Prom Queen.
"I don't get it...you kiss me back!" Dave stressed, his voice cracking with feelings.
Kurt felt so horribly guilty. He shook his head. "It was a mistake, Dave. I," he sighed and shrugged, "I was confused. That was my first kiss. I've always wanted to know what my first kiss would be like. But until-"
"I knew it. You and that Anderson. I just knew it."
Kurt remained silent.
"I could tell by the way he looked at you. It was so fucking obvious." He sounded like he was about to cry.
Kurt closed his eyes and furrowed his eyebrows, keeping himself from snapping at Dave. Not to me until he kissed me, he thought in his mind. "Dave, I don't want to lose you as the friend you are to me. I never wanted to hurt you." Kurt's voice was soft and consoling.
Dave was silent for a while. The two just sat there in a comfortable silence. Neither one of them got up to leave. There was only about an hour left of Prom, but Kurt was determined to make sure that they
"I just don't...get it...why you didn't talk to me about this before. 5 months of you not talking to me...and I swear I've gone mad." Dave's voice was more stronger now, but no where on the mean side.
Kurt had no choice. He was scared. And not to mention, he was busy. The two had basically been separated for 5 whole months. Kurt and Blaine worked on their relationship as Boyfriend and Boyfriend, Kurt and Blaine worked on their applications to scholarships and schools around the United States, making it a goal to get in the same college, and Kurt had to deal with his family. Burt had gone to the hospital again for a heart attack, but it wasn't as bad as everyone thought it was. All of that happened in 5 whole, long, and slow months. It was unbelievable. And already, it was Prom.
"I was scared...and besides...I had a lot of stuff going on," Kurt explained. His voice was small, but still carried the air of gentleness and consideration.
Dave shook his head. "I thought you hated me. I thought...I thought I had lost you as the friend I had..." His voice cracked again.
Kurt quickly put his hand over Dave's. "You will never lose me, Dave. Never. You're my best friend."
Kurt waited for Dave to calm down before he spoke again. "Now let's get back to Prom and enjoy it. How's that sound?"
Dave just nodded his head.
Kurt got to his feet and nodded his head towards the door. Dave got up soon after and followed Kurt down the hall and back to the gym. Blaine was sitting at a table, in deep conversation with Rachel Berry. The gym seemed more dimmer with how they changed the lights from bright greens and blues to yellows and reds. The dance floor was filled with slow-dancing couples, Quinn singing "Innocence" by Avril Lavigne. It was truly a beautiful sight to see.
Quinn's hair was pulled up halfway, her hair curled to perfection. She wore the Prom Queen crown proudly on her head as her light pink gown swayed with her body as she sang. She wore no makeup except for a top layer of eyeliner and mascara.
Blaine saw Kurt and his face completely lit up. He stopped talking as his brown eyes twinkled and his lips stretched into a big, cheeky, wide smile that made Kurt laugh at how adorable it was.
Kurt looked back at Dave, who looked around the gym. "Save me a dance?" Kurt asked.
Dave seemed more relaxed than ever right now. He wore a soft, friendly, and enjoyable expression as he gave Kurt a half smile and nodded his head.
Kurt smiled back and walked over to Blaine, holding out his hand.
Rachel looked up at the two and smiled.
"Dance with me, Anderson," Kurt said with a big but smug smile.
Blaine raised his bushy, triangular eyebrows and chuckled, grabbing Kurt's hand as Kurt led them to the floor. Blaine put a hand on Kurt's waist as Kurt did the same, their free hands linked up at chin's length as they swayed slowly to the music at first as the song that Quinn was singing changed to "Two is Better than One" with Sam. It wasn't long before Blaine leaned his head forward and resting his cheek against Kurt's chest, his head tucked under Kurt's chin.
"I love you," Kurt heard Blaine whisper.
It took a moment for Kurt to rethink over what Blaine had just said. "I love you too," he murmured back.
Kurt had never been so happy in his life before this moment.
