Song and Dance
That afternoon Kurt trailed into glee and immediately spotted Blaine with his armed draped around the blonde cheerleader. Kurt, as slowly and miserably as possible, dragged his feet across the room to were Rachel was perched on her chair scanning through a bunch of song lyrics.
“Hey. Where’s Blaine?” Rachel smiled.
“Haven’t you noticed him yet?” His facial expression didn’t change as he leaned back in his chair while his eyes drifted to Blaine and the blonde.
“Oh my God! That’s Kayla Maurice!” Rachel gasped.
“Glad to final know her name,” Kurt said rather enviously.
“No, no, you don’t understand,” Rachel continued turning back towards Kurt. “Kayla Maurice transferred from Carmel High last year and yes before you ask she was in Vocal Adrenaline. She’s an absolute straight A student and she’ll probably be captain of the Cheerio’s next year because of the hate of the New Directions she and Coach Sylvester share.”
“So, my boyfriend is falling all over a girl who’s probably plotting to dig a deep, dark hole and bury us not forgetting to cut off our heads so she can later parade around with them on sticks?” Kurt asked.
“Basically, yes.”
“Yay!”
“Right, guys,” Mr Schue walked into the room. “This week I thought...Blaine?” Everyone looked over at Blaine who had raised his hand rather innocently.
“This is my friend Kayla, we met on holiday over the Easter break,” Blaine explained. Everybody looked at Kurt, who staring jealously over at Kayla, and then they all looked back at Blaine. “Could she possibly try out?”
“Yes sure. Um...can you sing Kayla?” It sounded as if Mr Schue was hoping to get a no so he could kick Miss Maurice’s perfectly round snobby ass out of his choir room.
“Yeah, she’s pretty good. And she dances so Mike, Britt, you have so competition.”
“Mr Schue,” Rachel raised her arm, “Don’t you think it’s a little unwise to be adding a new and unfamiliar voice to the group?”
“Don’t be silly Rachel, everyone deserves a shot,” Mr Schue said even though it was obvious he agreed with her, “The floor’s all yours Kayla.”
Kayla smiled as she walked over to the drummer; whisper something flirtatiously in his ear, and then she stood in the middle of the room.
“I’m a little rusty guys so bare with me.” Kayla smiled sweetly. Then she started to sing.
Funhouse
P!nk
I dance around this empty house
Tear us down
Throw you out
Screaming down the halls
Spinning all around and now we fall
Pictures framing up the past
Your taunting smirk behind the glass
This museum full of ash
Once a tickle
Now a rash
This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down
9, 8, 7, 6 5 4, 3, 2, 1, fun
Echoes knocking on locked doors
All the laughter from before
I'd rather live out on the street
Than in this haunted memory
I've called the movers
Called the maids
We'll try to exorcise this place
Drag my mattress to the yard
Crumble tumble house of cards
This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down
This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down
9, 8, 7, 6 5 4, 3, 2, 1, fun
Oh, I'm crawling through the doggy door
My key don't fit my lock no more
I'll change the drapes
I'll break the plates
I'll find a new place
Burn this fucker down
do do do do dodo do
do do do do dodo do
do do do do dodo do
do do do do dadadada
do do do do dodo do (9, 8, 7, 6 5 4, 3, 2, 1)
do do do do dodo do
do do do do dodo do
do do do do dodo doo
This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down
This used to be a funhouse
But now it's full of evil clowns
It's time to start the countdown
I'm gonna burn it down down down
I'm gonna burn it down
“Oh my God,” Rachel breathed as she finished.
Kurt couldn’t believe his eyes or his ears. Kayla McBitchFace could dance like the devil and sing like an angel from heaven above. How was that possible?
Only Blaine and Brittany were clapping and cheering. Brittany tried to get Santana to stand up but Santana just sat there and stared at the girl with the long blonde hair.
“Oh...well...wow,” Mr Schue stood up and went to join Kayla at the front. “That was um...”
“Don’t worry Mr Schue; I usually leave people speechless after my performances. Once, when I was performing in Vocal Adrenaline, nobody in the crowd got up and cheered like crazy they just sat there with their mouths open. My coach thought I’d blown it, but we won. Turns out everyone was just in shock from my amazing performance.”
“Wait. You were in Vocal Adrenaline?” Mercedes said.
“Yes. I transferred from Carmel High in fall.”
“Well um. Everybody, the newest member of the New Directions.” Mr Schue smiled. Kayla smiled around before winking at Blaine who seemed to melt in his seat. Everyone else, including Britt, just sat in their seats, their mouths still open in shock.
“This is stupid,” Mercedes and Kurt walked out of glee club furiously. “Mr Schue can’t let a member of Vocal Adrenaline in!”
“Especially one who’s in cahoots with Coach Sylvester.” Kurt replied and then he told Mercedes everything that Rachel had said to him about Kayla.
“This really is stupid.” Mercedes stared at Kurt in disbelief.
“Absolutely ridiculous,” Rachel said storming towards them from behind. “I told Mr Schue everything I know about Kayla Maurice and all he said was that the group can always do with more strong voices. We don’t NEED anybody else, including any former members of Vocal Adrenaline.”
“Oh Rachel. You’re just afraid that there’s finally somebody better than you that has come along to steal your spotlight.” The three of them turned to see Blaine standing behind them tutting with Kayla hanging off his arm.
“And what do you want then?” Rachel was still looking furious. Her glare flashed between Blaine and Kayla.
Blaine stared right back into her eyes, “Just to talk to Kurt. Alone.
“We aren’t going anywhere Anderson. What you say to Kurt will soon enough be told to me and Berry anyway.” Mercedes also seemed very angry.
“Do you want them to stay Kurt?” Blaine asked slightly more gently.
“They can stay.” Kurt tried not to fall into a crying mess on the floor.
“Ok then, I just thought you’d find it easier if they weren’t here to listen in.” Blaine smiled.
“And miss Maurice doesn’t count when it comes to listening in does she?” Rachel spat. It was as if she was trying to set Kayla on fire with her glare.
“I would have gone if that’s what Kurt wanted.” Kayla said sweetly. God, why did she have to be so fake?
“Sure you would.” Mercedes said under her breath as Rachel snorted.
“Well anyway. Kurt I just wanted to tell you that we’re through. When I see you around school I’ll make eye contact and be polite but that’s it. I have no feelings for you anymore, actually I never did. I was wrong with what I did to you; I played with your feelings and used you as an experiment. I’m really sorry for that but there is no way to could ever make it up to you so I’m just going to leave you alone.”
“Why you little-“ Rachel looked like she was about to slap Kayla around the face.
“Leave it Rachel,” Kurt swallowed back his tears. “Please go now.” He said to Blaine. Kurt knew Mercedes had just put a comforting hand on his back but he couldn’t feel anything anymore. Kurt was left standing there completely heartbroken.
