Meet the Andersons
Kurt slowly crept down the stairs, trying to avoid his dad.
“Kurt what is that?” Burt pointed to his black turtle neck sweater.
“Huh? Oh you mean this!” Kurt said trying to be casual, “Oh yeah, it’s the new fashion.”
“Oh sure. Yesterday you said that turtle necks are the most hideous thing man has ever created and you would kill the person who created them if you could.”
Kurt looked nervous. “Yeah, well that was yesterday. Now turtle necks are totally in! Gosh, get with it dad!” Kurt walked in to the kitchen to have dinner with his family. He loved his family, yeah Finn was a pain but he did kinda love him. He really cared about Carole, she was like the mum he never had. Burt, he loved him so much and would do anything for him. Except maybe clean his room.
“What is that?” Carole asked Kurt as he walked in the room.
“Hey, that’s mine!” Finn exclaimed.
“Oh whatever.” Kurt sat down to eat with his family. 10 minutes passed with Finn going on and on about his and Rachel's date. Kurt began to feel very hot.
“Phew. Is it hot in here? Can we open some windows?” Kurt said, while fanning himself with his napkin.
“Well, why don’t you just take of your jumper then?” Finn said sarcastically.
“Gladly.” Kurt pulled off his very hot and sweaty jumper but put his hand on his neck before anyone could see. His elbow was rested on the table, with his hand placed on his neck.
“Kurt, honey, what’s that?” Carole asked sweetly.
“Oh nothing. Nothing at all.” Kurt replied a little too quickly. Burt got up and walked over to where Kurt was sitting nervously. He moved Kurt’s hand before he could react.
Where Kurt’s hand had been hiding was a medium sized hickey.
“Ooooh! Kurt’s been a naughty boy!” Finn yelled out.
“Oh shut it, Frankenteen. I bruised myself when I was closing the window.”
“Oh, yeah? I know a hickey when I see one. Besides, what did you bruise it on?” Finn asked suspiciously.
“The bruiser?” Kurt said uncertainly.
“Kurt, sport, have you and Blaine…?” Burt asked sounding a little worried.
“Maybe.” Kurt replied.
“What did I tell you about waiting ‘til you were 30?!”
“Well, it’s not fair. Finn and Rachel have, why can’t I with Blaine?!” Kurt said, defending him and Blaine.
“We know the family better. Finn’s been with Rachel for longer anyway. You and Blaine weren’t ready.”
Kurt went quiet. “Well get to know the family then! I know, I’ll organise dinner for you and Blaine’s parents, yeah? That sound good? Ok, good.”
Kurt got up and walked out.
Next day at school!
“I want to meet your parents.” Kurt said to Blaine which kinda made him jump.
“Wait, what?” Blaine said a little confused.
“No, I don’t. Dad and Carole do. They were saying about… well anyway, is Wednesday good for you?”
“Ok. First of all, Wednesday is great for me. Secondly, are you sure you really want to meet my parents? Remember what happened with my dad? Not cool.” Blaine said while looking into Kurt’s eyes.
“Oh, yeah… but they want to get to know them because they think they don’t know you well enough. But you frickin’ stayed at my house for a whole night! It’s not fair.” Kurt pouted.
“I know. Ok, I’ll ask my mum then, I’ll text you the deets.”
Saturday!
DING DONG!
Blaine fixed his bow- tie and ran to the door. He checked his breath before opening the door to a gorgeous, sophisticated Kurt with his parents.
“Hey! You look… amazing.” Blaine said sounding very stupid.
“Aw, thanks! You too.” Kurt gave Blaine a quick kiss on his cheek. Blaine’s parents and brother were standing in the hallway.
“Hello, Kurt dear! How are you tonight? I must say, you look absolutely stunning!” Blaine’s mom Cassandra said warmly while giving Kurt a big hug.
“Aw, thank you! You look beautiful tonight as well!” Kurt said.
Blaine’s older brother, Taylor, was leaning against the wall. He didn’t look nice like Cassandra did.
“Hey.” Taylor said before walking in to the kitchen.
Blaine’s father was frighteningly tall and he seemed to look down at Kurt as if he was nothing. He wondered why Blaine was so short.
“Hello, Mr Hummel, Mrs Hummel.” He shook their hands firmly.
“How you doin’?” Burt asked in his usual sloppy way. Roger seemed to wrinkle up his nose in disgust, just like Blaine does.
“Hello, very nice to meet you!” Carole said a little more posh.
“Well, shall we go in then?!” Cassandra said while smiling lovingly at Kurt’s parents.
“Well that went ok, I guess.” Kurt whispered to Blaine.
“You think that was hard? Oh, just you wait.” Blaine said.
When they walked in to the dining room, Kurt was amazed. Blaine’s house was huge! He sat opposite Blaine and next to Roger. The chefs bought out the food, which looked like the type of thing Kurt loved to eat.
“Main meal is zee Duck a la Vegatables.” said the French chef.
“Oh, I don’t eat...” Blaine’s father stared terrifyingly at Kurt. “On second thoughts, I’d love some!”
The whole meal was eaten in silence. Roger was first to break the awkward silence.
“So, Kurt, have you and my son done the deed?” Kurt choked on his drink.
“Uh, yes.” Kurt looked worried. “But I am so, so sorry! I-I…”
“Oh no, that’s fine, Kurt dear. Isn’t it Rogerford?” Cassandra said hinting to Roger.
“You know what? I don’t understand why you would go out with my son? I mean, look at him,” He pointed at Blaine, who had a very red face, “He had way too much gel in his hair, he is dumb, he has a bad fashion sense, he looks like a little munchkin, he has-“
“Excuse me.” Blaine said and he ran out of the room.
“Blaine! Blaine wait!” Kurt ran after him. He could hear sobbing coming from the lounge. Kurt walked in and saw Blaine curled up on the sofa and crying into his knees.
“Baby. Shh, come here.” Kurt sat down next to Blaine on the sofa. He stroked his hair. “You know what? You’re father is wrong. You aren’t any of those things. None of them. You are not dumb. You are so clever and I love your hair and fashion sense. And I’m sorry, he is more of a giant munchkin that you are. You’re perfect to me. And that’s all that matters.”
Blaine looked up at Kurt. A tear rolled down Kurt’s porcelain skin.“Why are you crying?”
“It’s just, all those things he said about you… I wished I could stop him. It just kills me that your own father could think of you like that.” Kurt sniffed and wiped his eyes.
“It’s ok. He’s barely my father anyway. The way he treats me, it’s just wrong. I wish I could have a family like yours. When your brother teases you because he loves you, a mother who doesn’t work full time which means you never see her. But mainly, I want a dad like yours. One who comforts you when you’re down, one who will never give up or anything.”
A large tear rolled down Blaine’s cheeks.
“You will, one day. But for now, you just have to keep trying. Never give up, even when the whole world gives up on you. Keep holding on.” Kurt said to Blaine.
“When will I get a proper family?”
“When we… when we get married?” Kurt said quietly.
“You think we’re gonna get married?”
“Yes. Do you?” Kurt asked, sounding embarrassed.
“Always.” Blaine laughed.
“What’s so funny?”
“It’s just, all my life; I imagined that I would never be happy because of that horrible time I went through. But I found you, and now that thought has gone forever. And I’m just so lucky. I love you Kurt Hummel, more than I have ever loved anyone in my whole life. I would die for you, I would do anything. You mean the world to me. You are my universe.” Blaine said through masses of tears.
“How am I supposed to top that? I love you too. I never stop thinking about you and when I’m not with you, I just can’t wait for that moment when I will be, and that’s why I haven’t given up when times get tough.” Kurt leaned towards Blaine and hugged him.
“Thank you.”
“It’s what I’m here for.”
