Homophobia

Kurt lay on the couch peacefully scanning a book he had borrowed from the college library. For once Robbie had offered to go and do the weekly shopping so Kurt could catch up on his homework. College had been removed from Kurt's list of priorities; absolutely everything had been removed from Kurt's list of priorities. He was much too busy making out with Robbie to bother with college, homework or keeping in touch with his friends.

Kurt heard the door open and Robbie appeared in front of him carrying a few too many bags.

"You didn't give me enough money Kurt! It wouldn't cover everything on the list!" Robbie complained.

"No I gave you twenty dollars more because I know you always spend too much!" Kurt said.

"But...that can't be true."

Kurt sighed and took one of the overweight carrier bags. He stumbled at its unexpected weight,

"What the hell is in here?" Kurt shouted.  He took the bag into the kitchen and peered inside, "The reason I gave you a list was so you kept to it not decide that milk meant beer and salad leaves meant pizza!"

"You gave me a list? Must have lost it, I made my own though," Robbie pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket.

"Give that here!" Kurt snatched the scrap of paper, "Beer, pizza, more beer..." Kurt trailed off. "Robbie, how come the majority of this list is alcohol? Have you forgotten my rule? You are not to have alcohol in this apartment as long as I live here!"

"Well I thought you could make an exception because we're throwing  a party," Robbie said hopefully.

"A party! A PARTY! IN MY APARTMENT?!"

"Calm down Kurt it's just a party I've invited my best mate Nathan and Liam, John, Sim and Dan. Plus they all said they'd bring a few girls," Robbie nudged Kurt.

"Have you forgotten that I will never be sexually attracted to women? I can't believe that you actually thought that I would let you throw a party here. Are you crazy?"

"Please babe?" Robbie pleaded.

"The answer is no. You can call that Nathan and tell him the party is cancelled, and you better take all this crap back to the store because I do not want to see a single bottle of alcohol in my apartment ever again. And don't even think that I will ever make an exception because I won't!"

Robbie just laughed. Kurt was sexy when he was mad. He took Kurt into his arms and kissed him. Kurt kissed back, his delicate lips touching Robbie's. Their mouths opened and Kurt was in heaven, Robbie was an angel specially designed to make Kurt feel loved. Or was he Kurt's own personal devil, the worst form of temptation?

"Robbie honey! It's so great to see you-" A women in her late forties had just entered the room.

Kurt and Robbie broke apart in shock.

"Mum...so um...so great to see you," Robbie could not think of anything to say.

Kurt stood there glancing from Mrs Grennhill to Robbie. This probably wasn't the way Robbie was planning to tell his parents that he was gay.

Mrs Greenhill stood there with her mouth open, "THOMAS! COME QUICK!"

A man in his mid fifties strolled into the room carrying two suitcases. "What's wrong Darline?"

Kurt stared at the man who looked exactly like Robbie except for the bold patch and the colour of his eyes.

Robbie wasn't able to greet his father though he knew he had some explaining to do.

"Mum, Dad...I have something to tell you," Robbie moved towards Kurt slowly. "This will probably come as a shock but it would be easier if I come right out and say it... I'm gay."

Mr Grennhill dropped the suitcases and stared at his son in horror. Robbie's mother strode forward as grabbed Kurt.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HIM?! HOW DARE YOU TELL HIM HE'S A...A...A-"

"Calm down mum, don't say anything you don't mean," Robbie put his hand on his mother's arm.

"DON'T TURN ON ME ROBERT! HOW LONG HAS THIS FAG BEEN LYING TO YOU? WHAT HAS HE DONE?"

Kurt was barely breathing, "Mrs Grennhill I really don't think you understand. You see me and Robbie..."

"Don't talk to my wife you filthy creature!" Mr Greenhill said coming forward, "Robbie, go and pack your bags. We'll take you home now."

"No...I'm staying with Kurt," Robbie took Kurt's hand.

"You're safe now Robbie, that...thing can't hurt you anymore," Robbie's father spoke calmly. He reached out his arms carefully ready to pull Robbie towards him.

"You'll be safe with us dear. There will be no need for you to worry anymore. I simply can't imagine what a traumatic few months you've been through. We should have come to visit you sooner. We are so sorry Robbie." Mrs Grennhill said.

"But there's no need for you to take me home, I'm happy here with Kurt," Robbie whispered.

"You don't need to pretend anymore. We can call the police, tell them everything this boy has done to you-"

"Don't you think the police are a little extreme Mr Grennhill?" Kurt asked loudly. "I don't believe it's my fault that me or Robbie are gay, do you?"

"Kurt..." Robbie whispered.

"I would also be appreciative if you would call me Kurt because that is my name, not boy, thing or fag. And I am especially not a creature so I would rather if-"

"You are a fag. You don't even deserve to be on this earth. As for the police, they should know there's a gay rapist in the area!" Mrs Greenhill spat.

Kurt burst out laughing, "A rapist?! You actually think that I'm a rapist? Oh my god! For your information I have actually only had sex once and just to reassure you, that was not with your son-"

"Kurt-" Robbie began.

"No Robbie. I have had enough of people, especially parents, not liking me. I don't see what I've done wrong here. As for being a rapist I think you may want to look down the street because you've clearly got the wrong apartment. I recommend you try number four, someone moved in last week. They seem a little dodgy."

"Don't be so cheeky, you are not on my list of hopeful future daughter in laws!" Mrs Grennhill had backed away from Kurt and was now standing on the other side of the room next to her husband.

"That's good because I won't be your daughter in law. I'll be your son in law. Now, do you prefer tea or coffee? I soft drink maybe?" Kurt turned and put the kettle on.

Robbie came to stand by his side. Kurt turned and kissed Robbie passionately. Robbie wrapped his arms around Kurt and kissed him harder.

The next thing Kurt knew as he was being slapped round the face, "GET OFF MY SON! I DON'T WANT YOU TO EVER TOUCH HIM AGAIN!" screamed Mrs Grennhill, "Oh Robbie, I'm so sorry. We must go now. Thomas call 911 immediately, boys like him should be behind bars. Preferably in prison though a mental institution would do. If they can get the disease out of him I'll be happy."

Kurt couldn't believe it when he heard Mr Grennhill on the phone to 911. This was a joke, surely.

"You'll have to put me behind bars too. If being gay is a disease than I'll have no choice but to follow Kurt."

Mrs Grennhill began to back away again, "My son...my boy...a gay. I thought I would never hear something so ridiculous," she whispered. And then raising her voice and turning to her husband she said, "Thomas! Get our luggage and into the car now!" Then she turned back to Kurt and Robbie, "You will never be hearing from us again! I hope your happy. You'll have to make you'll own way through college, you won't have anyone to turn to now!"

She went after he husband towards the door.

"He'll always have me!" Kurt yelled after her.

The door slam shut.

"Well the only thing we have to worry about now is the police knocking on our door demanding to search the place for a rapist," Kurt said.

The tears ran down Robbie's face, he laughed. "I'm sorry for everything they said. About you."

Kurt hugged his boyfriend close. "No worries. I'm used to my boyfriends' parents not liking me, it's totally normal. And about the fag thing, as I have said before and I quote, 'I refuse to be bullied.' I'm not going to let that bother me."

"Good. Doesn't matter anyway. Two hundred percent chance that they will never visit again and I've definitely been written off their wills and they're clearly disowning me so...we won't need to worry about it in the future."

"There's one positive for us though. I'm guessing you're not in the mood for partying anymore so you can phone Nathan to say the party's off. Well I suppose it's more of a positive for me really."

"No, a positive for us both. Now we can enjoy a quiet dinner out and some quality time later." He saw the expression on Kurt's face, "Not that quality time babe! Just some time together to chat and stuff. Would you like that?"

"I would love that. But one thing," Kurt said.

Robbie nodded.

"Another kiss first?"

Robbie kissed Kurt perfectly. It wasn't forced, it wasn't desparate. Just perfect. Kurt couldn't help but smile as they pulled away and stared into each other’s eyes.
