Blaine looked up.
“Blaine! Hi! I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever!”
Blaine sighed mentally. Aaron Harrison was just way too annoying.
“Hi, Aaron. How are you doing?”
“Oh, I’m so awesome! So, I have to tell you about this cute shirt that I saw a while ago- it’s like peach velvet... so cute! You will just love it. I’ll wear it tomorrow so you can see how incredibly gorgeous it is!”
Blaine sighed yet again.
Aaron always seemed to try too much. He seemed overconfident and cocky, sure that whatever he wore would be the new trend, no matter how horrible it looked. Nothing like what Kurt used to wear...
Blaine shook his head. He couldn’t think about it. The past was the past and memories of a certain scarf-loving boy from high school would just have to be buried under layers of hurt and despair.
“... and there were these adorable zebra print skinny jeans... Just too cute!” Aaron was still blabbering away. Blaine couldn’t care less.
“Blaine!” Chrystie, his manager, called, peeking through the doorway. “You have a photo shoot with Vogue at six and a new stylist is coming over at five to put together outfits. Please be there because he wants to know what kinds of looks you’re going for.”
“Yeah, sure thing, Chrys, I’ll be there. Who am I supposed to look for?”
“Well, I know his first name is Kurt, but my assistant misplaced the resume so I don’t know his last name. You won't miss him, though, he dresses quite stylishly.”
Blaine’s mind immediately flashed to Kurt Hummel, but just as quickly dismissed the thought. His Kurt was going into musical theatre, not fashion design, after all.
“Blaine! Are you listening?”
Blaine looked up in confusion as Chrystie smacked him across the head.
“Ow! What was that for!?”
She stared at him condescendingly.
“You weren’t paying attention!” She snapped. Blaine groaned.
“Sorry, Chrys, just a little tired.” Her expression softened as she took in Blaine’s tense demeanor.
“It’s fine, Blainie, I’ll just have it typed out so you can look at the information later.”
“Thanks Chrystie, you’re the best.”
He really had to get Kurt out of his head. It had been a year since the breakup and still all he could think of was Kurt. Every time he saw something, he would think about how it related to Kurt.
Hey Blaine, look at this scarf!
Kurt liked scarves...
Hey Blaine, look at this leopard print suit!
Kurt had a leopard print suit...
Hey Blaine! Look at this designer brand satchel!
Kurt had a designer brand satchel...
This sucked. For all he knew, Kurt was on a date right now with the hottest guy at his college, holding hands on campus and stealing kisses between classes, while he was here like a heartbroken fool. But it was true, he was a heartbroken fool.
No. He couldn’t do this any longer... He would write one last sorrowful love song and then he’d forget about Kurt, once and for all. And he actually meant it this time.
Blaine picked himself up and out of his seat and went to his dressing room. He grabbed his guitar and settled down. After strumming a few chords, he found inspiration.
Once upon a time we were
Both together we were
One forever we were
Parted never
But suddenly, we were
Separated for the first time
You, gone, me, here, waiting so patiently
I’m sorry for what I did, why’d you leave me behind?
I didn’t get, I still don’t get it, please explain to me
I came to visit you were acting strangely
I wanted to know you didn’t answer
Why did you leave, why did you make me wait?
So long ago, but I’m still wondering
I’ll be waiting forever
Wanting to know what happened to what we were
What we were
We were...
The door flew open just as Blaine got to the chorus.
“OhmygoshBlaineAndersonyouhavethehotsforme!” Aaron stood in the doorway.
Blaine was shocked. What the heck? How did this happen?
His confusion must have been written all over his face because Aaron suddenly launched into explanation.
“It’s okay, Blaine! I always knew we were meant to be! It was just a matter of time! See, I was walking past your door on one of my daily excursions to see your beautiful face on the poster next door, and then I heard your voice. So I came in here and listened,and oh, Blaine, I love you too! I always have and I always will!” He cried passionately.
Blaine was paralyzed.
“It’s okay, Blaine! I was speechless when I heard your song for me, too! Hey! Now we can have a couple name! Like Aaine! Or even better, Blaaron!”
At this, Blaine put his foot down.
“Okay, Aaron, that wasn’t a song for you... it was a song for my ex.” He said gently.
But Aaron was undeterred.
“Yeah, your ex... which means you broke up with him for me, right?”
Blaine sighed. Now he was desperate.
“No, Aaron. Um... we got back together. I’m in a relationship.” He lied through his teeth.
“Really? No, that’s not possible! Wait, I understand... Blaine, tell me the name of this guy. He must be stalking you! Or even worse, forcing you into an abusive relationship!”
“No, Aaron! I’m really happy with him! I... love him!”
“Really? Oh... um, well... Okay...” It was silent for a little while before Aaron spoke again. “I’m still available when he cheats on you, though! Rebound, fake dating, whatever you need, I’m here for you!”
Blaine snickered. “Yeah, I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Okay! Hey, what was his name, again?” Blaine’s heart stopped. He needed to think of something, and quick. An idea popped into his head.
“Uh... hey, why don’t you come for dinner with us and you can meet him?”
“Oh my gosh! Dinner with Blaine Anderson? I’m totally in! Eep! I have to go find something to wear... maybe he’ll kiss me!”
Blaine snickered again. “Yeah, good luck with that.”
And with that, Aaron left.
Now Blaine had a problem.
He needed a date and fast.
The 'date' was in 6 hours and he still didn't know who he was taking!
"What to do, what to do?" He muttered, pacing restlessly. He didn't know any gays who were close enough to fake being a relationship with him. Knowing them, they would take it as an indication that he really was asking them out.
Blaine needed to be set up. Who could do that for him?
There was only one answer.
Rachel Berry.
Although narcissistic and annoying at the best of times, the truth was that Rachel was in musical theater.
And musical theater was the prime love of most guys of his orientation.
So if anyone could help Blaine out now, it was Rachel Berry.
He grabbed his phone and dialled a number.
~~~
Rachel Berry loved many things. She loved Glee Club. She loved NYADA. She loved musical theatre. She loved singing. What she didn't love was being interrupted in the middle of rehearsing just because the director said someone 'important' was calling her.
"Why can't they tell me who the hell is stupid enough to call me while I was in character!?" She exclaimed angrily as she stalked off stage.
The director sighed as he watched the star of the show stomp away. Rachel was acting rudely, but he could understand. Seeing her on stage was breathtaking, and being forced out of her role because of some random dude was frustrating.
Moments later she marched back in with a spring in her step.
"Alright, that was an exception. He can call me whenever he wants to! No matter what I'm rehearsing!" She bounced up the stage resuming her initial position. "Let's start where we left off!"
"What just happened?" The director thought incredulously.
~~~
Rachel was ecstatic.
She knew about the breakup up between two of her best friends, and she knew that Kurt hadn't meant a word that he said. She knew that Blaine was pining, and she knew that they absolutely had to get back together.
And now she knew exactly how to do it.
Blaine needed a fake date and Kurt needed a life.
Why not kill two birds with one stone?
She pulled out her smartphone and speed dialled.
"Hello?"
"Kurt? It's Rachel."
________
Blaine found himself alone in his dressing room again. He checked his watch. It was three thirty, which meant he still had an hour and a half to kill before the new stylist was going to show up.
Blaine pulled his iPhone out of his pocket and pressed the home button. He paused and his eyes lingered on his wallpaper. It was a high quality close up of an eye. The eye was a sort of a blue color, with hints of green towards the center. The picture never failed to pull Blaine in. He couldn’t count how many times he had accidentally let the phone turn to black when he forgot to enter his password. This picture was taken by Blaine almost two years ago. He remembered the model getting annoyed at him for how long he had had to sit still while had Blaine messed with the lighting and lenses before he finally snapped that perfect photo. Yeah, he wasn’t going to deny that this eye belonged to a certain Kurt Hummel.
Blaine shook his head to get his mind out of the trance. He entered his password (5878, of course) and opened up his iPod. He selected the play list entitled “K&B” and shuffled it, popping his headphones in.
Candles, Blackbird, Baby it’s Cold Outside, Perfect, Animal, Let it Snow, Teenage Dream...
All songs that reminded him of Kurt. Blaine didn’t know why he had even saved that play list, and managed to listen to it every single day without fail, because, in the long run, it did nothing but hurt him even more.
He sat curled up on his sofa, listening to this play list on repeat, for the entire hour and a half.
“Blaine! Come on, your new stylist is here! You were supposed to meet him ten minutes ago!” Chrystie called, peeking her head into the dressing room. Blaine sat up straight with a jolt, pulling out his headphones and shutting off his music.
“Sorry! Sorry, I’m coming!” Chrystie started walking down the long hallway of the studio, Blaine following her closely. Blaine’s mind was kind of out of it. He was caught thinking about him again. A common occasion, but he had been getting so much better at not thinking about Kurt. He really wasn’t concentrated on what he was doing or where he was going. He just followed Chrystie closely, looking down instead of forward, analyzing the way her insanely high heels clicked against the tiled hallway floor.
"Blaine, this is Kurt, you're new stylist." They stopped short at the end of the hallway. Blaine's eye caught onto another pair of feet, clad in very stylish and familiar boots. His eyes trailed up the expensive looking skinny jeans and then he saw the grey plaid pea coat that seemed extremely similar, in fact, almost identical to the one that he had bought Kurt for their last Christmas together. The stylist wore a thick black scarf. His face was pale and thin and oh, so familiar, and... his eyes. Blue, with slight hints of green towards the center.
There was no doubt in Blaine's mind that the man standing in front of him was indeed Kurt Elizabeth Hummel.
Comments
Okay 1. Aaron is definitely annoying LOL. 2. K&B playlist was just "oh, Blaine!" and 3. Rachel is a sneaky sneak.
Yes, Aaron is annoying. Personally, I just want to punch him in the face or something. And yes... Oh, Blaine! and yes rachel sneakiness will be pretty interesting come next chapter!
OOOOOOOOOOOH yes. Rachel's is gonna make this whole situation a lot more awkward... :) thanks!
I liked this chapter :) You added Racheal's shenanigans (yes, I did just use the word shenanigans) to the mix, so this should get fun :D
Ugh! Reactions! You must give me reactions! You're an awful person for leaving it there! ... Well ok, you're not awful, but I wanna see the freak out! D:< And also how they handle this situation. I await the next chapter of awesomeness with bated breath :) By the way, good job at catching the thought process of a "forlorn lover". Totally spot on. It was like reading about myself for the whole year after the break up with my ex.
next chapter i promise for reactions! it will be a bit later than expected because my collab partner is super busy, but I promise for some good stuff :) And thanks!
AAHHHHH I KNEW IT! Found this fic just now... but oh! I can't wait for more. <3
THANK YOU DARLIN! :) The first draft of the chapter is finished so I'll try to post it as soon as possible.
