Author's Notes: sorry for any mistakes.

This was an absolute spectacle. Initially Kurt hadn't known how to react when his father rushed into his room with so much force and alarm he nearly broke the door off the hinges. Kurt could count on his fingers how many times he'd seen his father this visibly upset. Burt was never an outwardly emotional man, but as he stood before a frightened Kurt and his friend Mercedes, in the midst of their glee audition rehearsals, Burt Hummel was a mess. Kurt could feel it in his gut before his father even got the words out, stumbling over a phone call he received from Cooper on his way to getting to the point. Kurt already knew. He was supposed to call when the dance go out. It had been two hours precisely since then and the only two things he could think of that would delay his nightly phone call with Blaine was if he was getting his mack on with Tyler or something terrible had happened.

Needless to say a heated make out session with his date wouldn't cause Kurt's father to rush in like mad. If Kurt wasn't mistaken there had been actual tears forming in his eyes, though Burt would surly deny it. Something had happened to his Blaine and it was bad. As soon as the words "He's in the hospital son." Passed through his father's lips Kurt checked out. It was like his entire body was simultaneously buzzing with anxiety and numb all at the same time. He wasn't sure how he got in the car for the world most silent and tense ride to the hospital; all he could think of was Blaine. His best friend was in the hospital and for what? Because a bunch of assholes couldn't deal with him going to a dance with another guy?

To be honest Kurt lashing out was what Burt expected to happen. The silence had worried him. Kurt sat curled uncomfortably in a chair in the corner of the waiting room staring off into space. That was until Cooper came frantically lumbering in. As soon as their blue eyes locked it was like a fiery animal took over. Kurt was on his feet in an instant crowding Cooper's personal space and yelling at him. Mercedes looked around as the nurses and the other family stopped and stared at the three. She attempted to get the situation under control by handing Kurt a now cold coffee that she tried to get him to drink earlier. They had been at the hospital for hours and it was late now. They would get kicked out of the hospital if Kurt didn't calm down she knew that was the last thing he wanted. However, her attempts landed her covered in coffee when Kurt smacked the offending cup out of his way and turned back on Cooper.

"You couldn't just freaking come home this one time? How hard is it to just think about your little brother before yourself you conceited asshole?"

"Kurt I'm sorry, I didn't know, I thought-"

"What? You didn't know what Cooper. That you were leaving a 16 year old home alone so that you could audition for another stupid commercial that nobody cares about?" Cooper bit his lip and looked down at his shoes. Kurt inched forward with every word backing him up into the wall. "He went to the dance with another boy in OHIO Cooper and you didn't think that he might need your support just this once like his supports your career? I knew you could be oblivious to his feelings but I didn't think you were this reckless!" Cooper covered his face with his and turned his head as tears spilled from his eyes.

Everything Kurt was saying hurt.

"No! You look at me!" Kurt yanked his hand down with his left hand and grabbed the taller man's chin with his right. "You're brother needed you tonight and you failed him!"

"Kurt. Calm down" Burt's voice barely registered, but Kurt turned his gaze towards his father's voice to find two shocked eyes belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson and his father's concerned eyes taking in the scene before him. Mercedes was covered in coffee with her hands over her mouth as she watched Kurt crowding a much taller Cooper into a wall positively screaming at him and Cooper was full on sobbing now. Everyone was starting at them not sure what to do.

Burt set down the food in his hand and slowly approached his son and Cooper.

"Kiddo you've gotta take a breath and calm down."

"No dad, th-this isn't fair. Blaine is hurt. They hurt him dad!" Kurt began to back away as his melt down deepened. "All he had to do was be there to pick Blaine up!" Heavy sobs consumed Kurt and he began to hyperventilate.

"Kurt please calm down." His father continued moving slowly towards his sun with his hand cautiously lifted up in front of him for when Kurt was ready to be held. He had learned early on the extent to which Kurt's melt downs could reach, and was well versed in how stop it before it got too bad. Kurt hated when people crowded him and held him when he wasn't ready for it. It only made matters worse. So Burt tried to talk him down first.

"Kurt, kiddo you need to breath. You need to calm down and take deep breaths. I know you're scared, we all are. I know you want to blame someone but the only people guilty of what happened to Blaine to night were those kids that did it. Not Cooper" Burt looked towards Cooper to make sure he was listening, "and not you either, kid. You hear me? It's not your fault."

"I should have stopped him from going dad, I should-"

"Shhhhh. come here" Burt finally wrapped his arms around Kurt's shoulders and hugged his son close to his chest as he continued to cry.

"Mmmgayffooo" Kurt murmured into his chest. Burt pulled back a little but didn't let go as he searched his son's shining cerulean eyes. . His son was so vulnerable in that moment looking at his father was fearful eyes looking every bit like his late wife. He looked more like like Elly, which Burt was secretly thankful for though it hurt sometimes. Kurt's mother Elly was beautiful and he was glad to have a glimpse of her beauty every day in his son.

"What was that kid?" Kurt sucked in his lower lip and looked from Mercedes to the Andersons then back to his father.

Kurt wrapped his arm around his waist and whispered so quietly if Burt hadn't already had his full attention on the young teen he would have missed it entirely.

"I said I'm- I'm gay too dad. Like Blaine." Burt pulled his son in for another more suffocating hug (if that was possible). Kurt's tears continued to spill and saturate his t-shirt. Burt let out a breath and would have smiled if the circumstances leading to his son coming out were different.

"I know kiddo, I know." Kurt squeezed his dad tighter (again if even possible) and in that moment it was like it was just the two of them father and son and for a moment Kurt felt like everything would be okay, but then he remembered where he was and why and began to cry again.

"It's not fair dad. He's so brave, and-and he's so kind. He just he doesn't deserve this dad. Why does it have to be like this?" Burt shushed him and walked him over to the uncomfortable two-seater and snuggled his son into his side. "I don't know kid. I don't know."

Kurt carefully inched out of his father's grasp and stood trying desperately not to wake him. They had been in the waiting room for over four hours now since they had arrived. Kurt was getting restless and needed something to do. Mercedes' parents picked her up shortly after Kurt's melt down and took her home.

The doctor had come out once to announce that they had to preform emergency surgery to stop the internal bleeding in Blaine's abdomen. The news did nothing to sooth the tension in the room, and both Kurt and Cooper began to cry again.

Cooper was the first of the four to fall asleep after his sobs subsided. Mr. Anderson was off talking to his lawyer and some officers who arrived to speak with him. The only other person awake was Blaine's mother who was delicately sitting with her eldest son's head in her lap gently stroking his hair.

Kurt touched placed a gentle hand on her shoulder in hopes not to frighten her, though he managed to do so anyways. She jumped slightly and searched the room as if she had been somewhere far away. She turned her head slowly and locked eyes with Kurt's.

"Mrs. Anderson do you need anything? Some coffee maybe?" The woman tried to force her lips into a smile and failed. She looked so tired. Her eyes were red and puffy and she was sporting some serious bags under her eyes. It was much different from how she normally looked. Blaine's mother was gorgeous She always had a fresh youthful look to her no matter her age. So much of Blaine was in her. They shared the same golden eyes and curly hair. Though aside from the eyes, Blaine looked like his father as well, which made little sense because his father and mother couldn't look any more different than they did, yet Blaine looked so much like both of them..

Mrs. Anderson cleared her throat. "Kurt sweetie, you know you can call me Myra." Kurt knew she was trying to sound pleasant, but she just sounded sad and tired. Kurt waiting as she seemed be mulling something over in her head; mostly because he didn't know what to say.

Again, she smiled up at Kurt but it never reached her eyes. "I think I will walk with you to the café." Kurt nodded and stepped back as she slipped from under Coopers head and placed her coat under his head; both stilled with it seemed like Cooper was going to wake up and let out a breath of relief when he didn't. (Cooper had been a little harder to console.)

The walk to the 24 hour café was silent. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence but it wasn't a comfortable one either. When they arrived the café was pretty much empty, there was only the old barista wiping down all the tables. She hadn't noticed them walk in until they walk up to the counter. There were no more pastries on display. This late at night all they had to choose from was the assortment of coffee and tea. When she did notice them she rushed behind the counter and flashed them her winning smile. Kurt was sure that smile alone was why she was the one working this late at night in a hospital.

Lisset (according to her name tag) brushed her arm across her forehead, pushing the silver grey and black strands of hair that escaped from the net out of her face, sanitized her hands and turned back to Kurt and Myra with a gentle smile.

"What can I get you guys?" Lisset reminded Kurt a lot of his grandmother from his mom's side; a kind Hispanic version of his grandmother.

Myra spoke up first. "I'll have a cappuccino and Kurt?" Both women turned to Kurt expectantly as he stared at the menu. He wasn't one for coffee and he already felt anxious so he asked for green tea.

Neither Myra nor Kurt said a word as they patiently waited for their orders. When their orders arrived they sat at a booth in the café after a silent agreement that neither could sit another minute in that waiting room. Kurt spent most of the time staring at the steam rising from his tea as it swirled and danced into the air. The sight was almost therapeutic combined with the scent that filled him his nose. He hadn't noticed that Mia had spoken to him until she placed a hand over his.

When Kurt looked up Myra was crying. He instantly became uncomfortable. He was sitting at a café with Blaine's mom and she was crying. For the most part Myra was always pleasant to him when he would visit the Anderson household. Most of the time they weren't there and Blaine was over at his place, though, so Kurt wasn't sure what to do for his best friends mom who was crying in front of him for the first time. He was only fifteen.

Kurt froze wide eyed as she spoke again. "I'm so happy he has you Kurt." She said after a shaky breath. "You guys are so good for each other."

Kurt tensed at her words and shook his head, "We're only friends Mrs-Myra. We're just best friends."

"I know Kurt it's just. We aren't around enough, Daniel and I. We're always working or flying off to some event, and…" Myra, who had been staring down at her cappuccino locked eyes with kurt, "…and I fear Blaine doesn't know how much we love him." A sob escaped her lips as she removed her hand from Kurt's and placed it under her runny nose. "Those b-boys they hurt my baby and he could have- You guys you mean the world to each other, he speaks so highly of you and your family. I'm just so glad he has you. I love my son Kurt, I love my baby, but I failed him. He's, He's going to pull through this and I'll be better….. I'm just glad he has you."

Kurt nodded. He wasn't sure that there were any words to say to that. So he nodded and took a sip of his tea.

The doctor returned to the waiting room where the four were waiting. Everyone was awake and back in the waiting room talking quietly as they waited. They all stood when the doctor approached them.

Dr. Wilson turned to the Andersons with a smile. "Your son is going to be fine." There was a collective sigh of relief as they all took in the good news. "His face looks worse than it actually his so just prepare for that. He has two fractured ribs, a dislocated shoulder but we managed to stop the bleeding in his abdomen. We're going to keep him here for a couple of days. We want his body to heal so for the most part he will be asleep but he should wake up in two days. There was no damage done to his spine from the blows thankfully but we will still need to do some tests when he wakes up to be sure."

Kurt hugged his father with a face splitting grin. Blaine was going to be fine.

"I don't know why I let you talk me into watching this with you."

"It's a good movie Kurt! Plus Johnny Depp. Also Leonardo DiCaprio is really good in this."

"What's eating Gilbert Grape though, Blaine, Really?"

"Oh shush, it's either this or the terminator. All my other movies are packed."

The boys fell silent. They had been trying to not think about the fact that Blaine would no longer be down the street from Kurt. It been four months since…yeah, they weren't talking about it anymore. It had been four months since that, and Blaine was healing up nicely.

The doctor had been right when he said Blaine's face would look worse than it was. Both of his eyes were swollen shut, his cheeks were bruised and swollen, and his lips were also swollen and busted. Since then his face healed with little to no scarring, his shoulder was better, and his ribs were healing though they were still sore.

Blaine's parents had him homeschooled, and though Mr. Anderson continued to work most of the time, Myra stayed home with her son. Their relationship had strengthened and Myra was the one who decided Blaine was to attend Dalton Academy for his high school causing them to fight on many occasions because Blaine didn't want to leave Kurt and he certainly didn't want to run.

To Blaine it felt like Ethan and his boys won if he ran off to Dalton. Though Ethan and his boy were all suspended and were to move to different counties after their probation it still felt like they would be winning if Blaine went off to Dalton. Most importantly there were still bullies in McKinley and Blaine didn't want Kurt to face them alone. In the end Mr. Anderson agreed and so, the Andersons were moving to Westerville.

Kurt for the most part was supportive of the idea, though he primarily broke down upon learning his best friend wouldn't be with him the next year. He still felt so guilty and between him and Cooper (who had yet to return home) for the first two months walking on egg shells trying to make it up to Blaine until Blaine snapped at the both of them, Blaine was going to lose his mind trying to reassure Kurt that it wasn't his fault. Blaine knew the risks when he accepted Tyler's offer to go to the dance with him. Tyler was also a subject banned from discussion.

Blaine would finish up the school year in Lima at home so he could spend as much time as possible with Kurt but then they would be moving in May.

Like most weekends the boys would spend Friday night dinners at the Hummels and then on Saturdays they would go to Blaine's house and have dinner with Myra and Cooper, sometimes Mr. Anderson when he was home, and retreat to Blaine's room to watch movies.

This Saturday the boys were curled up on Blaine's bed in his room while Myra and Cooper attended a dinner party with Blaine's father. Blaine would have had to attend if…you know. Most of his things were packed up and in boxes to be shipped over to their new home. The only things left were essentials and his TV. Kurt had made dinner for just the two of them and brought it up to Blaine's room. When they were finished they set their plates aside, Blaine popped in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and cuddled with Kurt on the bed. It wasn't even halfway through the movie before Kurt started complaining about the film.

"Is she serious with the ice cream?" Kurt mumbled into Blaine's curls as he was wrapped around Kurt's waist with his head on Kurt's chest and their legs tangled together.

"Yes Kurt, it's called Cougar Seduction. Just watch" Blaine quipped gently squeezing Kurt's waist.

"Ugh the things I put myself through for you Anderson."

"But you love me so"

"Of course Blaine, you are the wind beneath my wings" Blaine smiled wide and sat up, wincing slightly at his sore ribs.

"You light up my life Kurt." He said trying to school his face to be serious but he was already on the verge of laughter.

"The sun, the moon, and the stars, they all shine for you Blaine"

"My heart beats for you Hummel"

"Every time I breathe, I breathe your name Anderson"

"When we touch my toes tingle." Kurt was the first to break as he fell into a fit of laughter, and Blaine quickly followed.

"I win, I out-cheesed you." Blaine said in between laughter.

"That's because you're a big goof" Kurt took a deep breath and poked side then immediately regretted it when Blaine winced. "Sorry, I'm sorry! I didn't mean-"Blaine placed his hand over Kurt's mouth and chuckled. "It's okay Kurty I'm fine."

"I'm going to miss you Blaine" Just like that the atmosphere dropped. Blaine grabbed both of Kurt's hands and entwined their fingers.

He stared down at their hands and examined how they fit so nicely together, and how beautiful Kurt's pale skin looked against his. Kurt's hands were so soft and warm. It always amazed him how right it felt to be physically connected to the older boy whether they were cuddling or holding hands.

"I'm going to miss you too Kurt." Kurt stared at Blaine staring at their hands. Lips tingling he was suddenly short of breath. He looked down at their hands and up at Blaine and everything made sense. He knew what this feeling was but he wouldn't say it. He couldn't. This was his best friend, and he was moving. He didn't need any more reasons to miss his best friend, but all he could think of was how much he needed to kiss Blaine.

Before he knew it he was inching closer to the younger boy who was still staring at their hands. He whispered Blaine's name and the curly haired boy looked up and blue met hazel. Realization dawned on Blaine's face and he licked his lips. The action made both boys blush. This was really about to happen. They were about to kiss.

Kurt pulled Blaine into his lap and brushed their lips together.

"Kurt" Blaine inhaled and moved in to seal the deal but before it could happen, Mellencamp blared out of Kurt's pocket. Both boys let out of groan of frustration and Blaine climbed out of Kurt's lap so that he could answer his phone.

Blaine looked over at the clock and blanched. It was 30 after midnight; way past Kurt's curfew.

"Yeah dad…sorry we lost track of time…okay I'm…they're not home yet…can't I just…thanks dad. I promise I'll be home on time tomorrow morning." Kurt looked back over at Blaine who was fiddling with his red and white plaid bedspread. "…Goodnight dad…Love you too. Bye."

Blaine looked up at Kurt and smiled but it was awkward. It reminded both boys of when they had first came out to each other and weren't sure how to be around each other.

That night neither boy could sleep. Blaine lay on his back staring at his ceiling and Kurt lay on his side staring at Blaine's wall. Normally when they had sleep overs they cuddled because Blaine was a cuddle whore and couldn't help it but tonight they decidedly put a slight space in between them. They had almost kissed. They hadn't talked about it. Blaine knew Kurt was awake and Kurt knew Blaine was a awake and that if they wanted to talk about it and discuss what it meant this was the time or it would be swept under the rug like it never happened the next morning.

In the end neither boy said anything and Kurt woke up with Blaine wrapped around him (he really couldn't help it.) He quietly slipped out being careful not to wake Blaine and left before he could wake up. He left and note saying he headed home and didn't want to wake him and to text him later. Before he left the room his kissed Blaine's cheek then rushed out of the room.

End Notes: well what do you think?? I definitely have more of a vision now of where this is going.

This is so depressing! The...the klaine feelings and Blainers...ugh. Why does the fandom do this to me?
