The alarm clock besides the Hummel's bed sounded a shrill tone; the time flashed 6:30 am. Burt groaned as he punched the off switch. Carole turned over and smiled a sleepy smile at her husband; "Better go check on our patients", she said as she sat up and got out of bed. Burt let out another groan and did the same. He stumbled down the hallway to his son's room and pushed open the door. He laid his tired eyes on two figures intertwined underneath mounds of blankets. He grimaced as he walked over to the bed, preparing to scold the boys for the inappropriateness that accompanied the sharing of a bed. When he took the blankets off the sleeping boys he jumped back quickly. The young boy's porcelain face was whiter than a sheet and it was covered in bright red spots: chicken pox!
"Carole! Come in here!" Burt hollered down the hallway.
Carole who had gone to the basement to check on Blaine hurriedly came up to the second floor. "Burt what's wrong! And where is Blaine?"
"In here" Burt said as he pointed to the sick bed.
"Oh goodness, looks like they both have chicken pox!" Carole exclaimed. "Burt, have you had them before?" Carole asked as she slowly walked over to Blaine side of the bed.
"No, I never had them why?" Burt asked as he felt his sons' still hot forehead.
"Because chicken pox is very contagious, you can't be around them or else you risk catching the virus. And if you get it you could be off a lot worse than the boys are." Carole said using her nurse voice. "You need to get out of this room".
"I will not leave my son while he is sick, what does it matter if I get a little case of chicken pox!" Burt said trying to be forceful even tough he knew Carole had the power in this situation.
"I am not arguing this fact with you" Carole responded sternly. "I can't have three sick patients to take care of. You will stay out of this room. As far as these boys are concerned they are quarantined." As she was saying this Carole quickly ushered her husband out of the room and shut the door.
