Author's Notes: So here is the Blaine half of this chapter, I know usually I have both a Blaine and Kurt perspective for each chapter but I decided to start the first one with only Blaine, and every chapter afterwards will have a Kurt and then a Blaine perspective post.Character Background: Jen, who is mentioned in this chapter, works with Kurt at the cafe that he and Blaine met at. She is friends with Sami, Blaine's ex, which is where they know each other from. (Yes I realize I purposely used Sami just because of Darren's song).Blaine's Perspective

It was a late Friday afternoon and Blaine had been attempting to write a ten page paper on some topic that he honestly was barely paying any attention to. He wasn't sure why it was so difficult to concentrate on the laptop screen in front of him, a Word document opened and looking just as blank as the look he was giving it. Maybe I should grab a cup of coffee? Kurt will be there... He wasn't sure whether the man wanted to see him, or talk to him for that matter, after the small - and redundant, to be quite frank - argument they had concerning the musician'sinsensitivity- granted he hadn't exactly been in the best mood - and the actor's dramatics. Yes, he was still a little bitter about it, it had only been three days prior and he had purposely stayed away from the drama major knowing Kurt was probably too stubborn to be the first to get ahold of the other. Since he had first met the actor, and later as he grew to know him, he quickly learned that he was as strong-willed as any individual could possibly be. So if the man didn't want to see or speak with him then Blaine imagined that was exactly what was going to happy. Here's the thing though, I can't stop feeling the necessity to apologize to him, whether I was right or wrong it doesn't matter...because not being near him was even more wrong. And to make it worse he couldn't help but to think of their failed attempt at a first date - though the term date still probably didn't apply. The way they had held hands constantly, opened up to one another to show some indescribable level of vulnerability, held one another to protect each other from the outside world that had hurt the both of them time after time, and kissed because they needed that caring and affectionate warmth to know that they weren't alone...it all seemed so overwhelming, and yet it also was so very clear...I need to see him.

Maybe it was a half hour later - or something close to - when he had left his dorm room after showering and pulling on a pair of dark blue jeans and a light gray sweater over a faded blue and white plaid collared shirt with the first couple buttons undone. His sweater was open and his hair had aminuscule quantity of gel in it compared to usual, though it was still combed off to one side with a slight wavy look as his curls were barely hidden away by the small amount of product holding it all together. His hands were slipped into his jean pockets while his matching light gray Ralph Lauren flats strolled over the sidewalk towards the familiar cafe that he spent enough of his time at to subconsciously remember the route without really having to pay attention. Minutes later his shoulder was pushing against the glass door and his foot was stepping into the building, his eyes glancing up as soon as he was all the way into the cafe to notice Jen standing against the counter with her hip as she ran her fingers through her hair absentmindedly. Blaine made his way over towards the coffee bar, and set his hands on the counter before leaning into it casually as though he wasn't searching for a familiar brunette and blue-green eyed man who would likely be tugging on his shirt to make sure it wasn't wrinkled, or fixing his hair in case any of the brown strands had escaped from it's flawless facade, or tapping his delicately pale fingers against the counter to some random rhythm that only he could hear in his head....

"Looking for Kurt? Oh don't give me that look, while you're attempt at being conspicuous is beyond adorable you are still failing miserably."

The musician raised an intrigued eyebrow at Jen who was still paying little to no attention to him, or at least that's how she was trying to make it seem. He grinned the slightest bit, both as a response to her statement without actually having to try to say anything, but also as a means of hiding the somewhat relieved feeling for not having to deal with a possibly hostile Kurt while simultaneously being disappointed for not seeing the actor. What was he supposed to do though? Make it that much more obvious how desperate he felt to see that familiar porcelain skinned face and impeccably bright blue-green eyes that seemed to capture his attention within seconds? So he did the only thing he could really think of doing...he deflected. "Well hello there Jen, it's always a pleasure seeing you. I'm assuming, by the number of times you have ran your fingers through your hair in the mere three minutes I've been here, that you haven't exactly been busy?" Blaine smiled softly, a modestly cunning tone held onto his words while he pulled his hands away from the countertop and stood straight back up on his feet, his own fingers running through his brunette wavy hair in an attempt to keep it orderly.

"Nope, sure haven't. Which means I wouldn't feel the slightest bit guilty for sitting to have a cup of coffee with you. So go ahead, sit down, I'll bring you your usual in a minute and then we can talk."

Blaine hesitated, still wondering where Kurt was but figured he might as well enjoy the time he had away from his essay to catch up properly with Jen. So he glanced over the counter once more and slowly swung himself around to head over to his usual table, the one he had grown accustomed to sharing with Kurt...but no worries about that now, he was probably off doing something of importance, or trying to avoid him at all costs like he had in the bar not too long ago. But hadn't things changed? Hadn't their unsuccessful outing been yet another game changer for the two of them and their friendship, relationship, or whatever it was? He took a seat at the table near the window and settled his elbow against it's surface while rubbing his fingers delicately across his forehead. Why can't this be easier? Why does it have to be so difficult? But that's when he got an idea, hopefully one decent enough to get back on Kurt's good side and return them to their normal state.

"Thinking about him, I see. So then, spit it out, go ahead. Clearly you can't talk to him about it so you might as well tell me. And before you even start, he gets the same look as you...yes, that one. Now, talk to me about it, I see him almost everyday too you know."

He couldn't help but let a small unnerved smile appear his lips as Jen slipped into the seat across from him - Kurt's seat - and slid Blaine's coffee over to him. "Thanks," he replied with a short polite smile before lifting the cup to his lips to take a long and necessary drink. When he replaced the coffee on the table he glanced over to see Jen looking back at him expectantly, her head slightly tilted as she made a circling gesture with her hand as if willing him to 'get along, talk'. "We just had an argument, that's all," but the disbelieving look on her face was almost a threat to elaborate on what he was talking about. The musician sighed and set his hands on the edge of the table, "Kurt was having a bad day...or at least that's what he thought it was. He had to deal with a phony costume, getting spilled coffee on three times while being hit on, and his car was scratched, not hit or anything prominent like that but merely scratched. I said he was being overly-dramatic."

"And you don't think maybe you were just being insensitive? Look, Blaine, I know you pretty well, what with Sami and-"

"Please don't say her name."

"...okay. My point is that I'd like to think I know you fairly well, which means I know when you're being you and I know when you're being someone else. Just...how do I say this...Kurt isn't like you Blaine, and yet he's exactly like you all at the same time, if that makes any sense. Whether the two of you are friends or more he'll be good for you either way...though that doesn't mean I'm not rooting for more."

Blaine appreciated the talk, he really in all honest did, but after awhile his thoughts start to cloud over and he needed a break. Once again, here goes the deflection. "So how have you been? I'm pretty sure I saw you at the last Anderson Thursday, and quite possibly the one before that...maybe even the one before that. You should hang around afterwards next time, I wouldn't mind getting a drink with a friend. Even though we both know the misfortunes of me drinking..." He noted how initially Jen's helpful demeanor seemed to falter, and he was almost positive she had frowned for a split second, but eventually it smoothed into something more natural, a light carefree smile as he was sure she was attempting to satisfy his wish to change the subject. Blaine smiled when Jen started to laugh and lean against the table to cover his hand with one of hers, causing him to chuckle as they both easily knew what memory the other was thinking of.

"Oh gosh, we really should keep you away from anything with alcohol in it. Honestly, you're just a mess when you drink...though I'd be lying if I didn't find it extremely charming at how clumsy and talkative you become."

Blaine shook his head and leaned against the table a little, that all too familiarly playful grin appearing on his lips as he shook his head and laughed, "Charming? I don't know about charming. I was thinking more along the lines of unattractive or pathetic really." Subconsciously he noted the sound of a glass door swooshing open, letting in a significant amount of cold air as footsteps padded against the wooden floor - but the musician's back was facing the doorway and he was so thankful for the distraction from everything outside the simple conversation they were having that the combination of sounds as someone entered the cafe didn't exactly register to the point of drawing his focus away from what was in front of him.
