Kurt smiled into his palm before realising he was probably pushing his cheek in some incredibly unattractiveness way, not to mention the grease and oil on his hands, lowering his hand slowly as to not exactly give away the small panic over his complexion. Sure it was incredibly vain, but Kurt had always thought taking pride in appearances was somewhat of a necessity rather than a right; plus if people were going to judge him on first glance, he’d rather they judge the best of him rather than the worst. The brunet swallowed harshly in surprise and braced his hands against the table before leaning forwards simply with his neck, his shoulders not budging from the slightly protective hunch to them. “You’re kidding me, right? You’ve never seen anything on Broadway? What have you been doing?” Sure his reaction was possibly a little bit more dramatic than the average person, but he was genuinely shocked. Most people came to New York to do all the tourist things and go to Broadway, especially anyone interested in the arts; or so Kurt thought. Recovering from his mild shocked expression with a deep breath the drama major winced lightly at Blaine’s words, he knew exactly what he meant. Sure working in drama and theatre, Kurt had seen plenty of talented people, but there were very few who actually were completely believable and fewer still who had caused him to feel anything towards their performances. Most were full of technique and no real heart or emotion. “Well you’ll have to tell me when these talented people are playing, I’d like to hear them; it’s not like I do much other than learn lines, finish essays and work so I should probably start being sociable with the other departments.” Kurt added a laugh to soften his words, but saying them out loud only really caused the fact that it was the complete truth to dawn on Kurt. He was a hermit in some respects, he avoided spending too much time with people, parties weren’t his thing and he still classed his dad as his best friend - this caused an internal groan and a mental note to fix this as soon as possible.

Kurt was somewhat hypnotised by the ease at which Blaine changed the chords on the guitar, the way he kept it perfectly rhythmical and of course his voice. He could feel his heart fluttering in some pathetic adoration for the tone and emotion of Blaine’s voice and he had to fight back a blush while shifting to find a more comfortable position against the piano, without leaning on it too much - mostly out of respect to the instrument. Truthfully, as much as Kurt completely adored Lady Gaga and big divas, he did love the raw emotion of a simple acoustic performance; the simplicity was mind blowingly beautiful and touching more than any synthesised top 40 track. Kurt fixed his eyes onto Blaine’s smile, returning it encouragingly. He did have a lovely smile, it was somewhat infectious and one of those smiles which wasn’t just all lip; he could see it lighting up the entirety of the musician’s face, especially those unique eyes. Clearing his throat softly, Kurt harmonised lightly with Blaine, rather quietly to mostly check to himself if their voices did in fact fit together somewhat nicely and he was pleasantly surprised. He raised his eyebrows lightly, closing his eyes to listen to the guitar with a small smile to his lips, only to open them and see Blaine looking over at him with that complete connection to the song which Kurt fully admired. He was pretty thankful for the instrumental break to collect his thoughts and focus himself on the words by turning himself to sitting sideways on from Blaine, trailing his fingers idly over the key cover of the piano. “I was the one you always dreamed of,” Kurt swallowed hard fixing his breathing like he’d been trained as if he was singing some giant show tune rather than a slow and emotional song in a coffee shop, “you were the one I tried to draw…How dare you say it’s nothing to me?” Kurt flicked his attention back to Blaine, clasping his hands together to stop himself from fidgeting. “Baby you’re the only light I ever saw.

Blaine watched Kurt for a moment as he leaned against his hand, and instinctively tilted his head the slightest bit while simultaneously raising an amused eyebrow at his facial expression when he finally moved. Yeah, it was most certainly the coffee keeping him together, because if he hadn’t gripped the cylindrical styrofoam item in his hands tightly he knew for a fact he would’ve smiled foolishly at the boy’s look. He felt slightly taken aback at the sudden movement, however, when Kurt reacted the way he did. Blaine could feel his cheeks get warm, as if they were threatening to blush at any moment, “I don’t know…like I said, I’ve never really been all that into theatre and musicals and Broadway and all that. When I grew up I stuck to my town in Manhattan, so I wasn’t actually around New York City much if at all. And now that I’m in college I just haven’t really had the time to make it to one. But even if I did I wouldn’t know which one to go to or anything like that,” he chuckled a little breathlessly, “I’m kind of lost with the whole theater and musical thing,” he admitted, feeling the slightest bit embarrassed. But he had to admit that Kurt’s incredulous look was starting to challenge the composure that he thought was being kept in check by the coffee cup, his grip on it only getting tighter until he could feel the styrofoam start to fold in on itself. Blaine heard someone come into the cafe and was thankful for the distraction as he tore his eyes away from Kurt’s figure, which had now moved closer to him, and turned to glance uninterestedly at whoever had just walked in. The deflection, even though it was a mere couple of seconds, gave him the proper opportunity to loosen his grip on the cup and compose his features. “I’m sure I can get them to meet you, they’re pretty chill people. And if I’m not mistaken we have another concert coming up in about a week, which is why I was working on that piano piece,” he smiled lightly, “Though I’ll probably end up singing it as a solo, which won’t be as exciting but it’s what it is I guess”. Blaine couldn’t help but chuckle a little at Kurt, “You should try getting out more, though I guess I can’t really tell you that seeing as how I basically live in the piano room in the music department”.

Blaine turned his gaze from Kurt’s, with much internal protest, to focus back on his guitar for a split second. He started to tap his foot lightly against one of the supporting bars on the stool since his feet were resting on them. Kurt’s harmonization with his chorus was unexpected, but he eyed him for a moment nonetheless, letting that same genuine smile cross his lips once he had let his voice fade for a few seconds before starting up again for his own verse. Blaine had to advert his eyes from Kurt as he sang, mostly because the way he put himself out there when he sang was almost affectionate to him, and his position of leaning against the piano only made the image of him more perfect. But when he felt those radiant green eyes looking over at him he couldn’t help but meet them with his own hazel ones. Blaine felt his finger slip from a chord, it wouldn’t have been all that noticeable to most people, but it was at least to him. He turned to lean a little into the guitar as he added a couple extra flurrying notes between Kurt’s verse and his own, nothing too complex or cluttered sounding, just a little change-up before he started singing again, “I’ll make the most of all the sadness, you’ll be a bitch because you can…” he grinned the slightest bit with a playful shake of his head, not being able to really help himself. “You try to hit me just to hurt me so you leave me feeling dirty because you can’t understand.
