Kurt pressed his lips together in a sharp line, averting his eyes from Blaine. He had two options. One, give some generic answer like ‘you’re my friend, of course I’m going to be here when I know you’re not okay’ which was probably the most over used expression he used constantly. He couldn’t help feeling attached to anyone who was actually half decent to him. Two, he could tell him the truth. He could say how he was confused himself, that he’d been avoiding him for fear of doing something he’d regret or saying something to ruin their friendship. He honestly treasured their friendship because he felt that if he needed someone there, Blaine would be there without even needing to ask. So he couldn’t risk ruining that. He sighed loudly, rubbing the back of his neck. “I’m here because you’re my friend, Blaine. That’s what friends do. Plus I feel terrible for avoiding you and making you feel like it’s your fault…” Kurt muttered, mentally slapping himself for being such a coward. He shifted on his feet awkwardly and crossed his arms more tightly over his chest.

Blaine eyed Kurt skeptically, because even though he couldn’t read someone to save his life he just had a feeling that his response wasn’t…well, completely honest. It didn’t sound right, and it certainly didn’t feel right. So he slipped his hands out of his pockets and instinctively moved a little closer to Kurt so he couldn’t really hide from him, his eyes staying on the actor’s face as he seemingly attempted to avoid his gaze. “Kurt…I realize that we don’t know each other all that well, and sure maybe we don’t actually talk or hang out all that much…but I feel close to you, and for some reason I feel comfortable around you, whether it’s simply holding a normal conversation or letting personal pieces of my history slip out every now and then.” Blaine bent his knees somewhat, lowering himself enough so he could lean a little closer in order to force Kurt to look at him, but he still was being stubborn. So he stood straight back up, reaching a hand to lift the man’s chin as gently as he could so he could finally see his facial expression perfectly well, “You don’t have to tell me the truth, but just know that even though we haven’t know each other for very long I will still be here for you to talk to…about whatever this is that you’re feeling hesitant about.” Blaine lowered his hand after a moment, and slipped both of his back into his pockets, “And if you never want to talk about, well then I can respect that too.”
