“Hopefully that was the last of the visitors for today,” Blaine sighed as he quietly closed the front door after seeing out his boss and his boss’s wife. “I love that our friends are excited and want to meet them, but I am exhausted and so are these little guys!”

Kurt hummed and shifted the sleeping baby in his arms. “They mean well.”

Blaine nodded. “I’m going to put Owen in his crib. Bring Olly? Maybe they’ll sleep a little while longer.”

They lay their children in the matching white bassinets they had gotten for the nursery and tiptoed out of the room, shutting the door softly.

“I’ll make us something to eat. Will you grab the monitor from the bedroom?” Blaine asked, heading for the kitchen. Five minutes later, he had leftover spaghetti heating up on the stove while Kurt sat at the bar with his laptop, catching up on his emails.

“Grandma and Grandpa Hummel send their love and demand pictures as soon as possible,” Kurt chuckled. “I’ve got a million pictures on my camera, but haven’t found the time to upload them.”

“I’ll try to do it tomorrow. No promises, though.”

Kurt laughed in understanding. They never seemed to have time to do anything anymore. With Kurt still working full time at his interior design company and Blaine staying home full time with the babies, neither seemed to have time to do much of anything anymore. Even sitting down to dinner together was a rare moment. But they couldn’t be happier, because they were a family; their dream had finally come true.

“Have you given much thought to what we’re going to do when the summer’s over?” Blaine asked as he handed a plate of spaghetti to his husband. “I start back teaching the end of August.”

“I’ve been considering our options. Nanny. Me working from home. Which I would love to do. I could have Todd and Erica do most of the work that requires leaving the office.”

Blaine’s reply was cut off by a wail coming through the baby monitor. Kurt swallowed his bite of pasta and stood. “I’ll check on them.”

Blaine sighed and rubbed his weary eyes. Though he was pretty much exhausted twenty-four-seven these days, he was dreading the end of summer and the end of his reign as stay-at-home daddy. But he needed his career, and his family needed the income. They were so blessed, he realized, that they both had stable jobs and stable incomes. Kurt was an amazing interior designer and had high-class clients that recommended him to their high-class friends, so it seemed he always had work to do. He wondered how he would be able to do it all from home while watching two three-month-olds.

Kurt returned, interrupting his thoughts. “Everything is fine. Just one smelly diaper this time.”

Blaine smiled. “I think there’s a game on tonight.”

Kurt looked at him incredulously. “It’s a Friday night, the babies are asleep at the same time for once, we don’t have neighbors knocking on our door, and you want to watch football?”

“Of course not,” Blaine smirked. “It’s baseball season.”

“Don’t be a jerk. I’m trying to get you laid here.”

“Oh really?” Blaine leaned towards his husband, capturing his lips in a loving kiss. “I can deal with that.”

“Good.” Kurt kissed Blaine again, deepening it and bringing his arms up to circle his husband’s waist and pull him closer.

Just as they were getting lost in the intensity of the kiss, the doorbell rang. Blaine pulled away with a low growl.

“Wait for it,” Kurt said, holding up a three fingers and counting down. When he reached one, a single cry came through the monitor. A second later it was joined by another.

Blaine shook his head, pressing a final kiss to Kurt’s lips before he trudged to the front door. “Mr. and Mrs. Smithwick, what a surprise.” Blaine sounded less than enthusiastic. Kurt didn’t blame him. He set off to the nursery.

“So much for a quiet evening.”
