Next we get to see how Blaine is doing. I should have the next chapter up in the next couple hours so stay tuned!
Perfect, just what Kurt needed to make him feel even shittier on this wretched day? If he ever wanted to be pushed to a lower point, Santana Lopez would be his Satan of choice to call upon. He knew this call would eventually come. Though they had been "so called friends" for years and even lived together for almost a year, he always knew that any dispute with Blaine would have Santana be on "Team Blaine" all the way. Ever since Blaine made the move to Mckinley they have been besties. They got especially close the year when Kurt moved to NY and Santana stayed a few months to be close to Brittany. Blaine has always credited Santana for pulling him up from his depressive state when they broke up and he was in a very low place.
"Well Happy Valentines Day to you too Santana" Kurt says it his best haughty voice.
"Dont give me your bougie tone, my Fair Lady, I asked you a question, what the hell did you do to Blaine?!"
"We broke up Santana, it did not work out, thats it" Kurt said is a lifeless voice. He really was not prepared to have this conversation with anyone.
"I cant believe Blaine is back in Ohio, living with his parents no less. Im sure he gave me a very edited version of what went down the night he left, but from what I did pick up was you broke off your engagement and said you didnt love him anymore. Has the pixy dust finally got to your head?!"
"I never said that Santana, a lot was said and unsaid that night that I regret" Kurt squirmed in his office chair as flashes of the night came back to him.
"You did tell him you did not want to marry him, right"
"Not in those words, but I guess that was what I was saying" Kurt said uneasily.
"Ok, so let me get this straight, you break up with him in High School when he made a mistake, which he thoroughly regretted after you abandoned him for NYC and continued to be your selfish and oblivious self. After almost a year of torturing him for said mistake and hardy admitting your own faults, you accept his musical production of a proposal and then have him move in only to have him move out a few months later when he got a little clingy, then you have him move back in when you lost Jewy dwarfs rent money. Now in less than a year, you break off your engagement and send him packing back to his miserable family he worked years to accept his lifestyle and your monstrosity of a relationship. He even gave up NYADA for you to go the Ohio State Kurt. Hes not even in school right now. He had to take a semester off because he could not apply for the Spring."
Kurt did not know what to say, though harshly said, most of what she said was true. He hadnt even given thought to what Blaine was doing about school. Blaine was to have a few weeks off in January for winter recess while Kurt took a class. He didnt even stop to think that Blaine leaving meant him giving up NYADA.
"Do you have any idea what he has gone through because of you, how hard it was for him to get over your first break up? No you dont do you, because you werent there. I was, I saw it, I helped him get back to living when he all but gave up on life"
"Santana, please, I care about him, I never meant to hurt him" Kurt chokes out in a pleading voice as tears begin to streak his face.
"You care about him, do you?! Have you even checked on him since you broke his heart again Kurt? Have you even called your so called best friend? Santana looked like she was using all her strength to hold herself back from going full on Lima Heights and Kurt just looked like he would welcome the end to his misery.
"I just couldnt Santana, I just couldnt" Kurt says in a defeated voice.
"I didnt even know all this happened? It wasnt until last week when I went to Ohio to visit my Abuela, did I see Blaines mom at the mall and she asked me to give Blaine a call. Hes been avoiding my calls for weeks, I ended up just showing up to his house and sat on his chest till he told me what happened, though the looks of him said a lot."
"How is he doing" Kurt said racked with guilt as he reaches for hope of hearing about Blaine for the first time in weeks.
"Oh no you dont Baby Spice, you are not going to get any information from me. If you didnt have the lady balls to call him and find out for yourself, you dont deserve to know anything about him." Santana lowers her voice and after a pause she continues in a disheartened tone "You know we both trusted you Kurt. I was scared for Blaine to throw himself so deep into things with you after the first break up, but Blaine was just so in love with you and ready to be your Disney prince that I could not bear to burst his bubble with my brand of cynicism."
Kurt wished there were words that he could throw back to Santana that would hurt her like he was hurting, but the words did not come, because she did not deserve them. She was right and the weight of his faults were weighing on his chest, making it hard for him to breathe.
As if she knew he was at his brink, Santana found a way to push him even deeper in the black hole of despair he was falling into with a few more words.
"Despite the numerous times me and Brit have broken up, I would never just leave her the way you did with Blaine. Maybe he is better off without you. Just keep away from him Kurt, I cant stand to watch my friend hurt anymore." Santana says these words coldly, laced with her own hurt and resolve to protect her best friend.
Kurt hears the click of the phone and just sits there listening to the dial tone. He finally picks himself up and goes to the employee bathroom and washes his face. He stares in the mirror and cant recognize who hes become. When did he become someone who could hurt the one person he loves the most in this world? What is wrong with him? All he knew was he definitely could not pick up his phone and call Blaine now. He needed to get his shit together before he caused more damage. Maybe Santana was right, maybe Blaine was better off without him.
