Blaine Anderson didn’t expect how welcome he would be in the Smythe’s household. Actually, it was a miracle he pushed through with the visit in the first place.
Earlier that week.
In the Anderson’s residence
“Blaine, son, are you a hundred percent sure you’re going through with this?” asks Mr. Anderson, looking intently at his son with deep concern.
“I’ve never been sure of anything else dad.” Blaine answers with a smile.
“Have you ever thought they might not be welcome to the idea of meeting you?” his father retorts, his expression unreadable
“Dad, I’ve had a lot of time to think about this. It’s been a year, and ever since waking up from the accident, I never thought twice about meeting them. I have to dad, I owe it to them that much.”
“But these are people you’ve never even met. They’re complete strangers!” his father’s tone, rising.
“Dad, don’t you think you’re over thinking this?” Blaine says with a playful laugh.
“Well, ever since your.. incident, you know I’ve been kind of... protective over you. ” Mr. Anderson sighs. “Okay! Okay. If it means that much to you, I’ll let you go. But if anything happens, you’ve got my number on speed dial. ” his father says, finally surrendering.
“Thank you dad.” Blaine pulls his father in a tight hug. “I just can’t stand the thought of losing you again son.” His father whispers, giving him a pat in the back.
“So.. Blaine, what do you do for a living? ” Diana interrupts Blaine’s thoughts. “I… uhm. I’m a landscape architect. ” Blaine says with a shy smile.
Then his attention is directed to Kurt, who has been awfully silent during the whole lunch. “Uhm.. May I ask, Kurt what do you do for a living?”
Kurt looks up, trying hard not to feel Blaine’s eyes on him, he flushes and looks down on his food.
“I’m a doctor, but...” Kurt answers and gives a slight cough. “I’ve been out of practice for a while.”
“Oh...” Blaine didn’t want to ask why, he felt like he was intruding. He decided to shift to another topic.
“So, could you tell me what Sebastian was like?” Blaine asked, turning to Diana.
Diana was about to speak when little Quinn speaks up. “Sebastian is the NICEST person you could meet. He plays with me anytime I want. ” Quinn says with a big smile spread across her face.
“Sebastian is very determined to get the things he wants. That’s why he managed to catch Kurt over here.” Diana smiles, trying to break the tension.
Mark and Quinn laugh together. Kurt blushes, and gives a chuckle.
“Yes, Sebastian IS the best when getting the things he wants.” Kurt adds.
Blaine is amazed every time Kurt speaks up. For some reason, He wants to know more about Kurt. “So Kurt, where did you and Sebastian meet?”
“We met at med school.” Kurt hesitates, but continues. “ I was such a nerd back then. Too busy chasing my dreams, never having time for love. That is, until I met Sebastian of course.” Kurt felt a little more comfortable. He finally plucks up the courage to look at Blaine.
Blaine Anderson doesn’t look anything like Sebastian Smythe. Sebastian has spiky brown hair, striking green eyes and always wears a smile in his face. Blaine, on the other hand, has tamed jet black hair, hazel brown eyes, but he does have the biggest smile that makes Kurt want to smile too.
“He’s charming and witty. I can’t remember how many times I said ‘No’ to him asking me out. But Sebastian, he never gave up on me. He had a way with words, until I finally said yes. We went out for a first date, then a second, and then I couldn’t count anymore.” A smile pulls on the corners of Kurt’s lips. “When we finally graduated, he proposed.” He pauses and wipes a tear falling from his eyes. “I could never explain how happy I was with him. I could never see myself with anybody else. Because Sebastian was everything I could ever ask for… and more.”
The tears kept falling more and more until Kurt stood up. “I’m sorry I need a moment.” He turned to leave when Blaine got up and grabbed him by the wrist. “Kurt, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I…” but before Blaine could finish, Kurt withdrew his wrist. “No, It’s not your fault Blaine. It’s mine.” Kurt forces a smile to reassure Blaine, but Blaine could see through it. “I’ll make it up to you Kurt. I will.” Blaine says. And Kurt manages to catch a glimpse of his deep hazel brown eyes and knows he means it.
Kurt continues to the living room, climbs up the stairs and rushes to the room he all knows too well. He collapses unto the mattress and cries on Sebastian’s pillow. He’s been holding back so much for the past month, he thought he was starting to heal. He was almost there. Then this Blaine Anderson shows up and cuts the wound open. Kurt knows Blaine means well, but he can’t put his emotions towards Blaine exactly. Blaine doesn’t look anything like Sebastian, but why does Blaine remind him so much of Sebastian? Why does Blaine’s presence make Kurt feel lighter? As if all the heavy grief he felt suddenly just leaves him?
Kurt hugs Sebastian’s pillow, clutches it tightly to his chest, as if never wanting to let it go. He closes his eyes, and dozes off..
“Kurt! Kurt!” a voice shouts from behind. Oh no, it’s him again. I’ll just pretend I didn’t hear him. Kurt thought. “Kurt! Kurt, I know you can hear me! Kurt, you know you can’t run away from me. Oh come on, don’t run!” the voice begs. Kurt still walks a little faster. He would run but he didn’t want to mess up his uniform. “Gaaaah!!” Kurt shouts, surprised to see Sebastian managing to have caught up with him. Gasping like he’s going to collapse. “Kurt Hummel, I swear! The. Things. I do. for you.” Sebastian says, gasping between the words, but still smiling as he does. “What? I didn’t tell you to run or anything!” Kurt answers him, half amused. “Well, it doesn’t matter. Anyway, I’ve been meaning to ask you something for a long time now. But you’ve been so busy and pre-occupied these past few days, I couldn’t get the chance to talk to you properly. It’s… ” Sebastian pauses. “…almost like you were avoiding me.” Kurt feels the blood rushing to his face. “Sebastian no, I have a lot of things to do lately.” Kurt looks down, he doesn’t want to stare at Sebastian’s gaze, it makes him want to melt. “Well, I just wanted to ask you… I’ve been wanting to ask you. If… you want to go out with me? Kurt Hummel, I know you have a lot on your plate these days, and I know you’ve probably said no to me for like a bunch of times. But it would mean the world to me if you gave me a chance.” Sebastian flashes that breathtaking smile. Kurt gives up and says, “Okay.” “Okay?” “OKAY!!” Sebastian felt like the happiest man on earth, He grabbed Kurt’s hands and said. “Thank you Kurt! You won’t regret this! I promise.” Sebastian takes off, jumping up and down. And Kurt can’t help but giggle watching him.
A tear trickles down Kurt’s cheek, as he wakes up to another day.
