Kurt had noticed that his father had become quieter during the last few days before he left. He had no idea why, maybe he didn't know how to talk to Kurt about him going. Or maybe he just couldn't say how happy he was that he was leaving. Kurt knew that he made his father unhappy, it had been that way since his mother died. Basically, ever since Kurt had found out what he really was. He was packing his bags when his father came in and looked around his room, Kurt didn't say anything but he watched as his father picked up a picture of Kurt and his mother together. He could see his fathers fingers run over the picture of his mother.
"I miss her." Kurt said, finally breaking the silence.
"Me too." Burt said quietly. "I miss her every single day."
"I wish i knew a spell that could've saved her or bring her back."
Kurt noticed that his father said nothing, he just put the picture down and patted Kurt's shoulder before leaving the room. It was like that a lot now, they would have a little conversation and then Burt would leave the room. Kurt sighed and resumed the packing. He would miss his dad terribly but he could've wait to go to Hogwarts. He needed to get away from the mean kids here, the ones who weren't like him and wouldn't understand. That's why he liked Blaine, because they were the same and he understood him.
He was so excited to see Blaine again. He was the first person other than his father, to have shown him kindness.
Kurt lay down on his bed that night, he couldn't sleep straight away because he was looking at the picture of his mother.
"I will make you proud mum, i promise."
His father had spent the rest of his time at home trying to talk him out of going, trying to keep him with him but Kurt knew he had to go. He had to learn how to control his magic and make his father proud of him. He knew both things were going to be hard but he was going to do his best. He knew how much his mother would've wanted him to go to Hogwarts, she would be watching over him and helping him. That's what he was always told.
The day he was going to leave to go to Hogwarts, he had his bags packed and down by the front door pretty early. He had so many bags that his father told him to go and put some clothes back, despite Kurt's protests about each bag being for the different seasons. He sighed and took out half of the things from each bag so he had half of the amount of bags. His father was happier about that. Kurt knew that he would be in uniform most of the time but he wanted to make sure he had normal clothes too, also some suits in case of special events. They packed up the car after breakfast and drove off to the train station.
Burt helped Kurt unload his bags and they looked around for the platform. Kurt was so confused, where the hell was the platform? There were no half, quarter or three quarter platforms. Was this just one big joke? But then he saw some kids running towards a wall. He was about to shout for them to stop and to be careful when he saw them go straight through it. He looked up to see they were between platforms nine and ten. Maybe he had to run through the wall, like those kids did. Burt said his long goodbyes to Kurt and asked him once more to reconsider, but Kurt didn't change his mind. After saying goodbye to his dad, he did exactly what the kids before him did, he gripped onto his trolley and ran directly at the wall. He was sure this wouldn't work so he closed his eyes but the crash never came. He just ran through the wall and then when he opened his eyes, he saw that he was standing by this huge red train. It was such a beautiful train. Kurt looked around and saw loads of kids with their parents, he suddenly started missing his dad. But he knew that he couldn't turn back now. He had to do this.
Kurt got on the train and started looking for an empty compartment. He saw loads of kids sat together and he wondered if he could find Blaine. He spotted a group of kids that were in his way and that he could tell were mean. They stopped laughing and talking and looked him up and down.
"Are you a girl or a freakshow?" One of them asked, the rest laughed.
"My name is Kurt Hummel." Kurt said to them.
"You even sound like a girl! So you are a freakshow." Another one said. "Are you a boy and a girl?"
"Are you asking if i'm a hermaphrodite?" Kurt asked. The others looked at each other with confused looks. Of course the big word would confuse them. "In answer to your question, no i am not. I am a boy and my name is Kurt. Now if you're done, i would like to find a compartment."
"Come and sit with us!" One of them suggested.
Kurt knew how that would've ended up. He would've gone and sat with them then they would have spent the entire train journey making him do stuff and making fun of him. He didn't want that.
"No thank you." He said politely.
"You're saying no, to us?" A big kid said. He looked really scary. "Are we not good enough?"
"I just don't want to." Kurt told them.
The bigger kid pushed him and he fell back against another kid who caught him. He had no idea who it was that had caught him, he turned round to thank them and his face lit up.
"Kurt?" Blaine smiled. "It's you!"
He noticed Kurt smile back and hugged him. "Hi! Thank you for catching me."
"You're welcome. Are you okay?" Blaine asked.
"Yeah, it's just kids. I'm used to it." Kurt said as he entered the empty compartment.
"You're used to mean kids?" Blaine asked with a sad face. Kurt didn't like it when Blaine pulled the sad face, he hated seeing Blaine sad.
"Yeah. i'm just different from most of them." Kurt shrugged. "I've always been told that i'm special."
"You are special." Blaine smiled. "You're awesome."
Kurt grinned at Blaine and sat down. "I think my dad is happy that i've gone away."
"Why on earth would he be happy?"
Kurt sighed and began telling Blaine how he felt. He had never opened up to another person before but he just felt that he could trust Blaine. "Because i make him sad. My magic has got me in lots of trouble at muggle schools and the kids bullied me. I think he's happy that i'm gone and that he doesn't have to sort me out anymore."
Kurt looked down and saw Blaine's hand take his own and squeeze it. He really liked that. He really liked Blaine. He was really cute, super nice, funny and he had a beautiful face.
"There is no way that he is happy that you're gone. Your magic means you are special and that you're going to be so talented. And the kids, they don't understand and they're probably jealous of your awesomeness."
"Are we friends?" Kurt asked.
"Of course! We are going to be the bestest of friends." Blaine grinned.
"I really want you to be my bestest friend." Kurt grinned back. "Hogwarts sounds really cool!" Kurt grinned. "I am so excited about it! I hope we're in the same house, that would be the best! But we're still going to be friends even if we're not in the same house, right?"
"We're going to be the bestest of friends no matter what."
Kurt liked that, he really liked that. He'd love it if Blaine was his best friend, even if they were in different houses. Blaine was just a really cool person and he wanted to spend more time with him.
