The boys hadn't spoken to each other in a few days, both mad at the other. Kurt was mad at Blaine for moving out and not understanding that he needed him and Blaine was mad at Kurt for being selfish and not understanding his mother needed him.
Kurt was lying in bed one night, not used to having the bed to himself since when Blaine lived there, he snuck into the bed so many times that he just slept there most nights. Eventually Kurt fell asleep but he didn't have a peaceful night. A couple of hours after falling asleep, he was woken by someone shaking him.
"Kurt! Wake up!" His dad said with a concerned voice. Kurt's eyes shot open and looked at his father, he was sweating a lot and panting. "You were having a nightmare. Are you okay?"
Kurt turned over to hug Blaine but then realised he wasn't there. He nodded in reply to his fathers question.
"Kurt you've been screaming and having nightmares every night since Blaine moved out. Have you told your therapist? Is she not helping?" Burt asked.
"She's great and yes, she knows all about my nightmares. Doctor Little is really great. Now, can i get back to sleep?"
Burt nodded and left Kurt to it, deciding to quiz him some more in the morning. Kurt fell back to sleep and had more nightmares but didn't scream anymore that night.
There was a knock at the door the next day, Burt answered it and smiled when he saw it was Blaine.
"Oh hey Blaine," He said. "Kurt's not home at the moment. Can i help?"
"I just came to see how he was, he's not answering his phone." Blaine said.
"He's with his therapist at the moment. You could go there and find him maybe." Burt told Blaine.
"Thanks, i'll do that." Blaine smiled and began turning round.
"Did you know that Kurt's having nightmares again?" He asked Blaine.
"No i didn't, we haven't spoken since i moved out. He's having nightmares? Is he okay?" Blaine asked.
"He says he is, he's been having them since you moved out, that i know of."
"You think he's been having them for a while?"
"I honestly think they've not stopped, i think you being with him at night stopped him from screaming. But now you're not there, he's screaming during the night." Burt told him.
"He said he needed me and i called him selfish." Blaine sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "What do i do? Do i stay with my mum who needs me or come back and be with Kurt, who also needs me?"
"It's really up to you, son," Burt said. "but your mother is alone and Kurt has me and Carole, so its not like he's alone."
"But i'm marrying him, if i'm not there for him now then he might not think i ever will be." Blaine was torn.
"It's up to you Blaine, if you want to stay with your mum then do it." Burt said.
Blaine decided to head off to the therapists office and saw that Kurt's car was there. He was happy that Kurt had Doctor Little to talk to when he couldn't talk to Blaine. He couldn't believe that Kurt was having nightmares and didn't tell him. It was a very Kurt thing to do, not tell Blaine so he didn't worry but he really did need to tell Blaine these things. They were getting married, he had a right to know these things. But he felt like crap for calling him selfish, he wasn't being selfish, he needed his man. He waited by Kurt's car until he came out. Kurt looked exhausted but as always he forced himself to smile.
"What are you doing here?" Kurt asked.
"So no "hi Blaine, i missed you, how are you?"?" Blaine said.
"Sorry. Hi Blaine, i missed you. How are you?" Kurt said.
"I'm good."
"How did you know i was here?"
"Dad, he told me. He told me about the nightmares."
Kurt sighed and began walking to his car. "It's nothing, i had a nightmare last night. It's just a nightmare."
"He said you've been having a lot more lately, he also thinks you've never really stopped." Blaine said.
"I'm fine. Doctor Little is helping me and she's giving me some sleeping pills. I am fine. You should go home to your mum."
"You need me."
"No, i'm selfish. Remember? Your mother needs you. Go to her."
"Kurt, i know now that you weren't being selfish. You really do need me. I can come home if you want me to."
"If i want you to? So its if you want to? Look, go back to your mummy because she needs you. She's alone and she needs her son. Just like it will be in New York, she will call you and you will go running. Or she'll move to New York and expect you to visit every day. I get it, she's your mum and you need to see her but she has to let you live your life, Blaine. I am not going to put up with you running off to her every time she snaps her fingers. She doesn't like me much as it is. Whether you come with me or not, i'm still going to New York. You can choose, stay with your mum, take her with you to New York or go with me. I need you but you have to want to be with me and actually be there for me. Maybe you're just scared about the future, maybe you're scared about the wedding. If its the wedding then we can postpone or if its New York then we'll work something out. I just don't want to lose you, but if this is it. If we've been through too much to get back from and you moving out is your quiet way of telling me, then tell me. I can't sit at home and wait for you to tell me that its over or wait for you to call me, or want to see me. I love you and i'm sorry that i'm being harsh and horrible, i just need to know where i stand. Where we stand. I get it, its your mum and she's the only one you have and she needs you but you have to have a future. I was supposed to be that future." Kurt finished his speech before getting into the car and driving off.
