Kurt and Blaine were sat together in the choir room, holding hands and listening to what Mr. Schuester had to say. Well Mr. Schue was talking until Rachel interrupted as always. They were friends but she did drive Kurt insane sometimes. He couldn’t keep up with her love life, one minute she was with Finn and the next she wasn’t but after the competition last year, they were back on again. He had been thinking about NYADA and he knew he needed to be in a club or be the lead in the musical or win class president. Blaine had been on the football team and now he was one of the lead singers for the New Directions, while Kurt still remained practically invisible in that choir room. He smiled at Blaine before turning his attention to what Rachel said.
“This year’s musical will be West Side Story and I, yes me Rachel Berry, will be Maria.” She smiled widely.
Kurt got excited and thought about how amazing it would be if he got the role of Tony, he knew all the words to that movie and not just the song lyrics. He heard Mercedes say that she wanted to be Maria and smiled when Rachel got annoyed because she didn’t want someone steal the role “that was made for her”. Rachel needed competition as much as she didn’t like to admit it, Kurt and all the other glee club members were tired of people just giving things to her.
“I am so going for Tony.” He heard Blaine say in his ear. Well crap. There was no way in hell that he could beat Blaine, it would be impossible. He just smiled at Blaine and wondered whether he should even try.
“You’ll be a great Tony.” Kurt replied.
“Are you auditioning?” Blaine asked, squeezing on Kurt’s hand.
“I was.” Kurt shrugged.
“Was?”
“That means i’m not now.”
“But why?”
“I have absolutely no chance of getting it.”
“But...” Then Blaine stopped and realised. Kurt wasn’t going to audition because of Blaine, because he thought that Blaine was better. “I won’t audition then.”
“Yes you will, you should because you’re amazing and talented-”
“So are you.”
“No, i can try but i won’t get it.”
“Kurt, something you want to say?” Mr. Schue spoke loudly, it almost made Kurt jump. Kurt nodded and stood up.
“I would just like to say that I’m running for Senior Class President, i know you all will vote for me because well... I’m amazing. So yeah, that’s what i wanted to say.” Kurt sat down and kept looking forward, knowing that Blaine was staring at him. He could audition, he said to Blaine he could try so he might and then use Senior Class President as a fall back when he doesn’t get it.

“You’re running for Senior Class President? Since when?” Blaine asked as soon as they left the choir room, grabbing Kurt’s arm to make sure he didn’t run off.
“Since I’m going to need it,” Kurt sighed. “I’m not drop dead gorgeous and super talented, i can’t make everyone fall to their knees like you can. Everyone loves you and you’re obviously going to get it so i need a back up. To get into NYADA i need something, something Rachel already has and something you’re going to get easily and that will be Senior Class President.”
“You think people are going to vote for you?”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“Not in the way you’re obviously going to take it.” Blaine snapped without meaning to. “Do you honestly think that people are going to vote for a gay guy? I don’t and i don’t think people are going to vote because of what Karofsky did to you, you won’t get sympathy votes either. Look, i’m not trying to be horrible, i’m really not but you’ve got to face it. I will help you with your campaign and will do my best to help you win but don’t get your hopes up.”
Kurt really didn’t know what to make of Blaine’s speech, it was partly mean but it was also kinda nice.
“Thanks.” Kurt mumbled.
Blaine’s hands cupped Kurt’s face, his thumbs stroking his cheeks and he stared into his eyes. “I believe in you, Kurt Hummel. I know what i just said doesn’t seem like i do but i do, i was just being realistic. It’s a popularity contest sweetheart; it’s not about what is good for the school. You can run and see if people change their minds and vote for the voice that is best and i will stand by you.”
Kurt smiled at Blaine, loving how sweet he was and he just wanted to kiss him. “Thank you.” He took Blaine’s hand and led him over to his locker so he could get something out when Brittany came over to him. She spoke to him about the election and how she wanted to help him, he was more than grateful for the help. He asked Blaine what he thought and he agreed that he should have Brittany’s help.

The day for the auditions came and Kurt had prepared a piece, he was going to sing I’m the Greatest Star and he was going to kick ass with it. He had a little secret in his performance that he didn’t tell Blaine about, he had the scaffolding. He came in and announced himself and who he was auditioning for, before going to take his position and started singing. Once he finished his song, he could see their faces were stunned and smiling. They told Kurt that it was amazing before they dismissed him. But later on, Kurt decided he was going to listen in on what they were saying to see if he was in with a chance. What he heard wasn’t good. They were saying how he was too feminine for the role, how he couldn’t pull off being straight and other things. Tears welled up in his eyes as he got up from under the window and ran off. He had to change; he had to be what they wanted because he really badly needed this. He needed to find Rachel and get a piece together, he needed to be convincing.
