“Kurt,” Blaine started as he walked into the room. “I need to talk to you about something.”
Kurt looked round and saw it was the prince; he couldn’t talk to him not after he had been used like that. “Well unless its something potentially life threatening, you can’t.”
“Please Kurt. I don’t know what to do.” Blaine inched closer to him, there was this little bit in his head that told him to put his hand over Kurt’s but he didn’t.
“Well that makes two of us.” Kurt snapped, throwing some potato peelings in the bin.
Blaine was confused, he had no idea what was wrong with Kurt and what he had done to make him like this. “Kurt, what’s wrong?” He asked as he put a hand on his back which Kurt moved away from.
“I can’t...” Kurt said then remembering that people were around. “What are you doing here your highness? You can get into trouble and so could I.”
“Anyone else in my family would order you to do so Kurt, please I just want to talk to you. I need to talk to you. You are the only person i can trust.” Once Blaine had said this, Kurt sighed and walked out of the room, Blaine following. They reached the place that Blaine had taken him before, where they had kissed.
“What?” Kurt asked, his arms folded looking at the prince with a mixture of anger and hurt.
“Its Jeremiah, he rejected me.” The prince sighed and ran his hand through his hair, he didn’t know what to do, he had never been rejected before.
“Oh did he now? Well good on him.” Kurt looked to the floor, shuffling from one foot to the other.
“What is wrong with you? Have i done something?” The prince asked pretty clueless.
“Hmm let me see, you kissed me and never spoke to me afterwards. You used me. I bet it was for Jeremiah, try and get your kissing skills up. What did you do? Go round and find every potential gay guy in this castle and kiss them? I thought better of you.” Kurt looked at Blaine for a second and turned to walk away.
“Kurt no, i didn’t use you.”
“Then what did you do your highness...”
“Blaine, call me Blaine.”
“Fine, Blaine. I feel used; you kiss me and don’t speak to me or come and see me. You don’t even care about me. I have done more for you than you will ever know.” Kurt’s eyes were filled with tears as he walked as fast as he could away from Blaine. He turned a few corners and stopped, sliding down the wall and just bursting into tears. Blaine was stood feeling very confused, had he just used Kurt to know what it felt like to kiss a guy or to get more experience in case he ever dated Jeremiah? He didn’t know. And what did Kurt mean when he said “I have done more for you than you will ever know”?
Kurt didn’t know why but something was telling him to go to Blaine’s bed chamber that evening, like he used to when he was a cleaner he pushed open the door and saw that Blaine was having a nightmare. He never knew what they were about and neither did he want to know, he just wanted to help the pain stop and make him better. He moved closer to the bed and looked down at him. “Hi, I don’t even know why i’m here. I’m so mad at you, yet so in love with you. I need you in my life, even if you don’t love me back, i need you. And here I am, again, doing my best to stop the nightmares for you. I can’t bear to see you in pain sweet prince,” Like usual Kurt stroked the prince’s hair, brushing it away from his face. “You are the reason I didn’t quit this job. If I had to go one day without seeing you, it would hurt me so much. I love you, Prince Blaine, more than you will ever know.” A single tear ran down Kurt’s cheek, he looked down at the sleeping boy who was calming; Kurt began singing to him, the same song as last time, when he sang he held the prince’s hand, stroking it. When he was done singing, he leaned down and kissed his head softly before going back to the servant’s quarters. He arrived back to a very angry supervisor, it wasn’t Sue this time, it was Dave. Dave hated him more than Sue did, he was always pushing him around and calling him names.
“Where have you been Lady?” Dave asked as he lightly tapped the belting stick against his hand.
“I was sleep walking. I’m sorry.” Kurt replied, a little shakily.
“Liar, lie down.” Dave ordered. “Its your beating.”
“But when i’m beaten its only supposed to be across my arms and legs. Not anywhere else.” Kurt had no idea what to do, Dave was huge. Dave raised his fist which made Kurt instantly lay down on the floor. He closed his eyes tight as tears slipped out of them feeling the belting stick smack against his back; it was more times and much harder than Sue had ever done it.
“Get up Hummel.” Dave snapped, when Kurt took his time he pulled him up by his arm and pushed him towards his bed area. “I don’t want to see you mess behaving or sneaking out and coming back late again or next time it will be harder and it will be somewhere more painful.”
Kurt had a little doll on his pillow, it was something his mother and father had given him when he was a baby, it was the only thing he had left. He hugged it close to his chest as he lay down and tried to sleep, he was crying so hard and in so much pain it wasn’t possible.
Mercedes, Rachel and Carole grew increasingly worried about Kurt, when they saw Blaine in the door way of the kitchen they had to get him out.
“I just want to see him, please Rachel.” The prince begged.
“I’m sorry your highness but we can’t let you.” Rachel felt bad for him but he knew it was for the best, it would protect Kurt that way.
“Why not? Don’t make me order you to let me past.” Blaine was serious; he needed to talk to Kurt.
“Don’t you even think about it Princey, I don’t want him anymore hurt than he already is. He hasn’t eaten or said a word to anyone in days. He hasn’t sung or hummed or made any kind of sound that isn’t him crying himself to sleep at night from the pain.” Carole said seriously, blocking the doorway so Blaine couldn’t get through.
“The pain?” Blaine asked just to make sure it was what he thought it was.
“He was beaten severely the other day; the supervisor went against the rules and hit him in a place he wasn’t allowed to. They’re only supposed to hit across the arms and legs and only once. Kurt, he was beaten several times on his back. He just seems to have given up, he’s lost his spark and I don’t think he’ll ever get it back.” Carole replied. “Now please go.”
Blaine looked over her shoulder at Kurt desperately, he felt horrible and he had never felt so bad in his entire life. He thought he had a bad life; he had nothing on Kurt who was so brave. He wanted to go to him and hug him and tell him it was going to be okay but he couldn’t because it wouldn’t be okay. He nodded at the servants and turned and walked away, he wanted to cry. Blaine made it back to his royal bedroom and went to his pet bird, who was lying still.
“Pavarotti?” Blaine called to him; he opened the cage and poked him. He was still and hard and very much dead. He had gotten that bird weeks ago, it was the day in fact that he met Kurt; he noticed recently that Pavarotti had been losing his spirit and his love of song but he didn’t expect him to just die. Blaine called in the servant called Brittany who sat and made a casket for the tiny bird. Blaine sat on his bed and all he could think about was Kurt.
