Once upon a time there was a boy, his name was Blaine. Blaine was a prince and not just any prince, a prince that could change things forever for the royal family. His parents, King Sean and Queen Meredith, were very strict on rules and regulations; Prince Blaine was constantly reminded of them in their large castle. He was the only son so he had a lot of weight on his shoulders and had to be the best prince, one day king that he could possibly be. He had never had a girlfriend or had any remote interest in girls because secretly Prince Blaine had an attraction to men, he was gay. There was one boy in particular he was interested in and that was the castles tailor, Jeremiah. But there was someone in love with the prince and it wasn’t Jeremiah, it was out and proud Kurt. Kurt spent his time cleaning the floors and having all the nasty jobs, it wasn’t always like that, and it was just until King Sean found out about his sexuality and didn’t want someone like that around his son. He used to clean Prince Blaine’s room but now... now he just cleaned floors, the toilets and was fed scraps when everyone else, the straight or in the closeted people, were fed full nice meals. Kurt couldn’t complain because his family back home had hardly anything to eat, his father Burt had gone to fight for his king and so had his step brother Finn while his step mother Carole worked as hard as she could in the kitchen of the castle. She tried her best to slip Kurt proper meals but she was caught sometimes by the guards or supervisors and sometimes beaten, Kurt would do his best to stop the beatings which then led him to be beaten. The only reason why he wasn’t fired was because he was the best cleaner they had. But Kurt did something that no one else knew about, when he was cleaning at night outside Prince Blaine’s room; sometimes he heard him having nightmares and would go inside and sing to him softly. As soon as Prince Blaine heard Kurt’s singing voice he calmed straight down but he never knew what it was and always called it “The Angel of the Night”. Prince Blaine loved this angel but had no idea who it was and his greatest fear was if it was a girl who sang to him, what would he do then? He was gay.

It was night time and Kurt was scrubbing the floors outside Prince Blaine’s room when he heard cries and whimpers coming from Blaine’s room, he was having a nightmare. Kurt pushed open the door and saw the prince crying and tossing and turning looking very distressed. He walked over to the bedside and crouched down, brushing the curls away from the prince’s sweating face. “Shhh, come on sweet prince. Hush now. I’m here.” He whispered Prince Blaine started calming down as Kurt began to sing to him. It was a song that he had written himself about Prince Blaine and from what Kurt could tell he loved it. Once Kurt’s song was finished he went to leave, Prince Blaine was calm and happy. He began moving away from the bed when a hand grabbed his and took it. It was Prince Blaine’s. His heart was racing so fast that it would burst out of his ribcage; the prince had never touched him before. He smiled down at the sleeping boy even more when he saw the smile on his lips as much as Kurt wanted to stay there and watch him sleep he couldn’t.
“Kurt? Kurt, where are you?” He heard as footsteps came closer to the room. “You’re supposed to be back in the servant’s quarters, you don’t want to be late again. Sue will take great pleasure in beating you again.”
Kurt looked down at Prince Blaine with sad eyes, he had to leave him but he didn’t want to. He kissed his hand before reluctantly letting go, watching as the smile on his prince’s lips faded. “Goodnight sweet prince, I hope the angel of the night has comforted you and will continue to do so.” He said as he ran from the room. He picked up his sponge and bucket as he rushed down to the servant’s quarters.

“Where have you been, Kurt?” His friend Rachel asked as she took the bucket and sponge from Kurt, chucking the water out of the window and putting the items outside the door. “Sue has been going crazy, she’s in one foul mood and she wants to beat someone.”
“No doubt that will be me.” Kurt sighed as he took off his dirty apron and tossed it aside. “Its always me Rachel because I’m gay. The king hates it and he wants everyone else to.”
“We all hate it that you get beaten, Kurt. I’ve been here for four years and not once been beaten or even come close.” Rachel said as she gave Kurt a pillow.
“Lucky you. I’m lucky if i can get through one day without at least one.” Kurt sighed as he put the pillow down in the corner. “Jeremiah is gay and they treat him great.”
“But that’s because he’s closeted, Kurt. Its not safe for him to come out.” Rachel began to undo the front of her dress. It never bothered Kurt when Rachel undressed in front of him, he used to it. “I hear that they’ve found someone for Prince Blaine to marry.”
Kurt’s ears pricked up. “Really?” He felt jealousy burn through him. “Who?”
“A Spanish princess called Santana, from what I hear she’s a bitch.”
“Tell me more.”
Kurt and Rachel sat down at the table talking about Prince Blaine and Princess Santana but Kurt had a feeling that Prince Blaine wasn’t interested in girls. He was gay. He was worried about Prince Blaine; he wouldn’t know what to do about it, how confused his feelings were and how his father would react if he told him. He had no idea that his father hated homosexuals and was a huge homophobe. After talking about them for half an hour they were interrupted by Sue, the strict and nasty supervisor. Kurt jumped to his feet and looked at her, she wasn’t afraid of beating him.
“Lady, Lady.” Sue looked at both Rachel and Kurt. “So Lady Trousers, why are you so late?”
“I was cleaning, distracted by something shiny and i thought i could add it to my uniform.” Kurt lied.
“Porcelain, i know when you’re lying. You have one chance before i had no choice but to beat you.”
“There will be no beating, Sue.” A voice came from the door. A man with curly hair was stood in the doorway, his name was Will and he was Prince Blaine’s teacher. “Kurt, are you okay?”
Kurt nodded, picking up his pillow and the small rag they called a blanket and hurried from the room, Rachel followed.
“He is just a boy, Sue.” Will shouted.
“I know that William. You think I like beating that boy?”
“I think you love it Sue, it gives you some form of power.”
“No, that is where you’re wrong. I do not like beating that boy, I have what you would call a soft spot for him. I do not agree with homophobia William. I do want to help him but I need this job and if the king orders me to beat him then i must do that.”
“I wish we could help him.”
Sue nodded and just simply walked off.
