“Last night,” he grinned at the confused boy behind him. He watched as Blaine took the phone from his hand. “Don’t you dare delete it!” he laughed as Blaine examined the picture.
“How did I not notice you taking this….” Blaine looked at the picture. Is that really what he looked like last night? He asked himself. “Don’t worry, I won’t delete it. I’m just looking at it.” Blaine kept examining the picture, trying to figure out what he was doing in it. “When last night did you take this? I’m racking my brains here trying to figure out exactly what I’m doing in this picture…”
“You’re looking sexy as usual.” he laughed taking his phone back. “You were playing Wii and you turned to me, i had my arms crossed so you couldn’t see my phone. You were pulling one of your gaming poses.” he went slightly pink. “If you don’t like it i can delete it if you want. Actually yeah i will its a bit weird”
“No, no.” Blaine said though laughter. “I think its cute you snapped a picture of me when I wasn’t looking. You don’t have to delete it.” He wrapped his arms tightly around Kurt and kissed his neck where his hair ended. “See, Mrs. Hummel? A lot of our conversations are like this. At one point one of my dorky obsessions are mentioned, Kurt becomes all adorable and embarrassed over something he doesn’t need to be embarrassed about, and it usually ends with a kiss somewhere.”
“Its not cute, its weird” he laughed embarrassed. Overall it wasn’t a bad picture, he thought to himself as he put his phone away. Kurt put his arms over the ones that were around him, squeezing back, he closed his eyes as Blaine kissed his neck. “I get embarrassed because i usually say or do something silly and thats your fault.” he laughed. “It does usually does end with a kiss doesn’t it? We kiss a lot, not that i’m complaining.”
“Myyyyyy fault?” Blaine gasped dramatically. “What do I do?” He laughed along with Kurt. “You better not be complaining. Cause there’s no way I’m stopping.” Blaine teased, reaching around to kiss Kurt’s cheek. “Sorry for the PDA, Mrs. Hummel. We just can’t help it sometimes.” Blaine winked at Kurt, who leaned into his chest.
“Yes your fault! I was never that clumsy or got that embarrassed before you.” He laughed. “Hey why would i complain? I start a lot of them.” He turned his head so Blaine missed his cheek and got his lips instead. Kurt bit his lip as Blaine spoke to his mom and then leaned back into his chest tilting his head up to smile at him.
Blaine and Kurt sat in silence for a while, Blaine’s hand slowly rubbing Kurt’s upper arm. They didn’t notice a car pull up and a man walk out of it, holding a dozen roses. Blaine looked up and his eyebrows raised along with his eyes growing wider. Burt was walking towards the two with a slightly stunned expression on his face. Blaine nudged Kurt and motioned his eyes upward towards Burt, telling him his father was here.
As soon as the car pulled up the candle went out. Kurt felt a nudge and looked over to see his dad walking towards them with flowers and a stunned expression. “Dad, hi. I didn’t expect to see you here this early, you’re usually working.” He looked from the candle to his dad.
Blaine’s eyes travelled from Kurt to his father then to the candle that just blew out and back to Kurt. He wondered what the candle blowing out signified.
“I had to come.” He heard Burt say, and he looked up at Kurt’s father with a sad smile. He loosed his tight grip on Kurt only to be gripped even tighter. Both of the Hummel men looked as if they were about to cry.
Kurt sniffed and nodded. “I know.” he said gripping Blaine tighter. He saw Burt look to Blaine. “I thought that it’d be nice for Blaine to meet her, i didn’t want to be alone this year.” He looked to the ground.
Blaine looked from Kurt, who was looking at the ground, and Burt, whose gaze shifted every once in a while from him to Kurt.
“I get that.” Burt said, kneeling down to put the roses next to the flowers Blaine had gotten. He looked over at the two, and Blaine gave him a small smile. “Did you get these flowers, Blaine?” Burt asked, and Blaine nodded. Burt stood up again and walked over closer to them, putting a hand on Kurt’s shoulder.
Kurt kept on hand still on Blaine and moved the other onto the hand that was on his shoulder. He was trying his best to keep it together. He looked at Blaine. “We’ve been here long enough, i think its time to go now.”
“Only if you want to.” Kurt stood up and dusted himself off. Blaine stood up with him and looked from Burt to Kurt. He didn’t know about Burt, but it looked as if Kurt was about to start bawling any minute now. Blaine walked over and patted Burt on the back before slumping his arm around Kurt and walking away with him.
Kurt stood up and dusted himself off. “I want to.” he said quietly. He picked up the candle off the floor and put it in his bag. “I’ll see you later” he said to his dad before Blaine’s arm went round him and they walked off to the car. He climbed in the drivers seat of the car, his vision blurred by the tears. He put his bag on the seat behind him and started the car.
Blaine got into the car after making sure Kurt was in. He looked at Kurt with a look of worry and caring. He hated seeing Kurt cry. Before Kurt could begin to pull away, Blaine took him into a tight hug and rested his forehead against Kurt’s. “Thank you. For letting me come with you. I know this was hard for you.” He gave Kurt another squeeze and let a small, sad smile form.
Kurt tried his best to contain his tears as Blaine hugged him and rested his forehead against his. “It was hard but it seemed easier somehow this year, i think that was because of you. So thank you.” he gave him a gently kiss.
Blaine kissed him back with even more gentleness than was being given. He pulled back and stroked Kurt’s cheek softly before sitting down in his seat normally, allowing Kurt to drive. “Where to next?” He asked, trying his best to smile. Blaine didn’t want Kurt to be sad and depressed the entire day.
He shook the tears away and began to drive. “I thought we were going to tidy your room?” Kurt said looking at Blaine smiling weakly. “I made a start on it earlier but i didn’t get to do much since i was distracted…” he stopped realizing what he said.
Blaine’s eyebrows shot up. “Distracted? What, did you see something in my room that you didn’t like?” Blaine wondered aloud. What had Kurt been distracted by… his room wasn’t that messy, was it? “Or did you see something you wanted and were messing with it, thinking of ways to steal it without me noticing? Because if you want something of mine, you can have it. I don’t mind.”
Kurt stopped at the lights and laughed. Blaine had no idea, absolutely no clue. “I did see something i liked, i liked it a lot in fact.” the tears that were in his eyes turned into tears of laughter. “I would never steal anything from you and what i liked i already have anyway”
Blaine looked ahead in confusion. What was Kurt talking about? “Well, if you already have it… wait. I’m confused.” he admitted. “If you liked it and you already have it but you won’t steal it… did you ‘borrow’ it or something? Because, I mean…” Blaine rambled in his confusion.
“Noooo i didn’t borrow it, how could i have borrowed it? I like it very, very much, i have seen it a lot recently and i wouldn’t mind seeing it again.” Kurt laughed at Blaine’s confusion.
Blaine was hopelessly confused. He couldn’t even begin to guess what Kurt was talking about. “Hey, don’t laugh at me.” Blaine said, smiling. “Well, what distracted you? Or would that confuse me even more…”
Kurt laughed and ruffled the hair on Blaine’s hopelessly confused head. “It wouldn’t confuse you it’ll er i don’t actually know what you’ll think.” he grinned.
Blaine just looked at Kurt. Why was this so confusing for him? He thought, trying to guess what distracted Kurt. His mind kept upcoming blank. “Were.. Were you looking at something on your phone? Because I really have no idea where to even begin to guess…” Kurt turned onto Blaine’s street and pulled up to his house, parking the car.
Kurt continued to laugh as he pulled up outside Blaine’s house. “My phone is a clue, i wasn’t looking at my phone but it’ll give you an idea.”
What did tha….. oh. Suddenly, everything clicked and he understood. Blaine’s head hit the back of the seat and a tiny smile formed on his lips. “I forgot the close the door, didn’t I?” He asked, his eyes closed with a small chuckle. He shook his head and ran a hand through his messed up hair. “Sorry bout that…”
Kurt laughed and put his hand on Blaine’s. “Yeah you forgot, you did also last night. Thats why i was at my dresser. Please don’t apologise i didn’t mind at all, unless you did?”
Blaine let out a slightly embarrassed laugh. “No, I don’t mind. I only thought you would, which is why I left the room. Guess I won’t have to do that anymore.” Blaine teased, picking up Kurt’s hand and giving it a kiss before walking out of the car and towards the house. Kurt followed him, and they headed inside.
“You think i would have minded? How many times last night and this morning have i told you how much i liked your body? Too many to even count. You don’t have to do that no more, oh and just so you know i was watching this morning too when i had my ‘eyes closed’” he bit his lip and smiled when Blaine kissed his hand. He got out of the car. “I’ve embarrassed you haven’t i? I’m sorry.” he said before taking Blaine’s hand and headed inside.
Blaine couldn’t control his laughter. “So three times? Dang Kurt.” He teased, leading Kurt around the house. Blaine’s mother wasn’t home; she had left to go somewhere with some friends. “I’m not embarrassed, just surprised. And I personally find it hilarious.” They walked up into Blaine’s room and took a quick look at it. “Right. What exactly needs to be done? It looks fine to me….”
“Yeah three times, why are you surprised?” Kurt asked curiously. “You find it hilarious? I guess thats a good sign that you’re not mad.” He laughed, he then looked round Blaine’s room. “It looks fine? Blaine your room looks like its been struck by a tornado.”
“I’m not mad.” Blaine kept laughing, but was silenced by Kurt. “My room doesn’t live like a tornado came through… that’s just cause you’re so OCD.” Blaine said, sticking out his tongue. He let go of Kurt’s hand and started picking up some of the stuff on the floor. His guitar was sprawled out on the floor and he picked it up, the strings making some noise as he did.
“Me? OCD? You must have the wrong person honey.” he laughed picking stuff up. He watched as Blaine held his guitar in his hands. “Your guitar, its very nice.”
“Yeah… I love it.” Blaine played a quick riff on it before setting it down in its case and picking up more things on the floor. He didn’t think his room looked to terrible. “What else needs to be done? Besides picking the stuff off the floor, I mean…..”
That quick riff that Blaine played made his heart flutter. Kurt laughed softly. “You do know when i said about tidying up i was joking.” he walked over and sat on the end of Blaine’s bed removing his bag and setting it down beside him. His jacket followed showing the outfit that Blaine asked him to get rid of. He smiled up at Blaine.
“Oh. I thought you were serious…” Blaine smiled and set his stuff down, watching Kurt. “That outfit, I hate it so much. Why would you even waste your money on that?” Blaine teased, walking over to his guitar and lifting it out of its case. He took it and sat on the bed opposite of Kurt, legs crossed underneath him and his guitar in his lap. Blaine looked down at it and began to noodle around, playing random things.
Kurt looked down at his outfit. “You really hate it that much? Well if you’d rather me get rid of it now i will, i’ll just need to borrow clothes to get home in.” he winked. He watched Blaine pick up his guitar and start to play random things. “You’re so hot.” Kurt slipped out without meaning to, it was meant to be in his head.
“I really hate it that much.” Blaine said with a laugh. His random riffs were turning into chord progressions and forming songs he knew. He resisted to urge to sing along as to not annoy Kurt. Blaine looked up when Kurt spoke and smiled. Kurt had obviously not known what he had just said. “I try.” He said with a laugh and Kurt covered up his mouth. “Yeah, I think you said that out loud instead of in your head like you thought.”
“What would you like me to do about it?” he asked talking about his outfit. He covered his mouth embarrassed. “Yeah i did, i’m sorry.” he blushed burying his face in his hands.
“Hey, you don’t have to be sorry.” Blaine laughed and gave Kurt a look, trying to get his attention again. “It’s not your fault I’m perfect in every way.” He laughed, watching Kurt as he played. Kurt didn’t look up, so Blaine shrugged and turned his head back down to his guitar sitting in his lap. Involuntarily he began to sing along softly to the song he was currently playing.
Kurt heard Blaine start singing along to the song he was playing on the guitar and looked up, he stared at Blaine completely in love. His smile grew across his face, he was so tempted to kiss him but he didn’t want to stop the sound of Blaine’s voice and the playing of the guitar.
Blaine didn’t notice Kurt look up, so he kept on playing. He became a little bored with the song he was currently singing and switched songs. He was in a Beatles mood and his playing grew a little louder as he played the intro to one of their songs. He knew Kurt would recognize it, and he purposely played it to get his attention, not looking up from his guitar. He forgot how easy the beginning to Blackbird was.
Kurt instantly recognised the song that Blaine was playing and he started singing along to his playing, remembering what happened the last time he sang it. He smiled and continued to stare at Blaine.
Blaine looked up when Kurt started singing. He smiled at him, thinking about what his thoughts were the last time Kurt sang this. Kurt wasn’t crying this time, which was a giant improvement. But he still looked at Kurt with that same expression glued onto his face. Blaine messed up and had to tear his eyes away from Kurt to focus back on the guitar.
Kurt smiled as Blaine accidentally messed up and watched him play his guitar. He moved closer to him still singing. He was so glad he wasn’t crying this time, he felt it kind of ruined it a bit last time. But last time he was upset so it was understandable, still the song set all this in motion.
When he felt like he had the hang of it, Blaine looked up to see Kurt suddenly alot closer than he was when Blaine last looked. He grinned, that loving expression creeping back onto his face. His mind raced as he thought about the thoughts he had the last time Kurt crooned this song, making him grin even larger. He felt Kurt’s head lean against his shoulder and he smiled, looking back down at the guitar.
Kurt leaned his head against Blaine’s shoulder and continued to sing. He was getting to the last verse and sang. “Blackbird singing in the dead of night. Take these broken wings and learn to fly. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise, you were only waiting for this moment to arise, you were only waiting for this moment to arise.” When was he finished he smiled up at Blaine that loving look still in his eye.
“That song was written for you to sing.” Blaine at Kurt looked at each other, staring into each other’s eyes for as long as possible. “Paul McCartney knew what he was doing.” Blaine said with a laugh before setting his guitar aside and turning himself to make Kurt more comfortable. His arms wrapped around the countertenor and he planted a kiss on his head.
“It must have been, Paul McCartney is a legend.” He hugged Blaine. “I seem to sing a lot of the Beatles” he laughed. “You finally played me your guitar, it was more amazing than i expected. Its made love you even more if thats at all possible”
“Yep, he is a legend. But he was never my favorite Beatle.” Blaine looked down at Kurt again with a smile. “Ringo has always been my favorite.” Blaine pulled Kurt closer when he said his guitar playing made him love Blaine more. “I guess it was worth the wait to hear me play, wasn’t it….”
“It was definitely worth the wait, it was just…. just so perfect. I can’t get over it” he smiled. “I wish i knew how to play the guitar, i only know how to play the piano and i’m not even very good at that”
“Thank you…” Blaine blushed and looked at his hands, which were fidgeting. “You want to learn some?” His arms unravelled from Kurt, who whimpered when he let go, and reached for the guitar. He pulled the guitar up into Kurt’s lap and sat behind him, arms wrapped around him to show him how to play.
Kurt whimpered as Blaine let him go but nodded as Blaine asked him if he’d like to learn some. He held the guitar in his lap while Blaine sat behind him, he felt Blaine’s arms wrap around him to begin to show him. “Right where do i put this hand?” he asked holding up his right hand.
Blaine held up Kurt’s left hand and put it into place on the neck of the guitar. “Your right hand does the strumming.” Blaine said, fixing the guitar in Kurt’s lap. He took Kurt’s fingers and showed him where to place them for G, one of the easiest chords. When Kurt had it all right, Blaine took Kurt’s right hand and strummed the strings, each string playing beautifully. “And that’s G.” He said, leaning back and letting Kurt strum the guitar proudly.
Kurts heart beat faster with every touch that Blaine gave him. He looked at Blaine and smiled. “So this is a G, i’ll have to remember that one.” he smiled wider as Blaine’s hands moved his own onto the guitar. The sound of the two playing together sounded beautiful, when Blaine moved back letting Kurt try it didn’t sound awful, which he was thankful for, it sounded ok. “How’s this?” he asked looking up at him.
“It’s good.” Blaine said with a reassuring smile. “That’s possibly the easiest chord. You can keep strumming or I can teach you another chord if you like.” Blaine leaned forward again but didn’t wrap his arms around Kurt, who was strumming away at the guitar. “See?” Blaine whispered in his ear. “It’s not that hard.”
Kurt continued to strum at the guitar when Blaine leaned forward and whispered in his ear making him jump slightly. “No its not, right what’s next?”
Blaine took Kurt’s hands again and showed him how to make the C chord. “Now this one is a little bit harder. You don’t strum the first string when you strum this chord. Only the bottom five. Got that?” Blaine said, placing Kurt’s fingers where they needed to go on the fret board. He took Kurt’s right hand again and strummed every string but the first one, showing him what to do.
Kurt was looking at the hands on the guitar, the next chord was the C chord. He nodded when Blaine asked if he understood. He tried again on his own, it didn’t go so well this time as he kept hitting the top string no matter how hard he tried not to. “I keep hitting the first string,” He looked at Blaine. “I’m trying not to but i keep hitting it.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” Blaine said soothingly as he took Kurt’s hand in his again. He ran both of their hands down the strings, strumming them, missing the first one. “You just have to look down as you strum and tell yourself not to strum the top string. It’s a little hard a first, but you’ll get the hang of it. I promise.”
Kurt laughed. “What do you think i’m doing? Playing with my eyes shut? Yeah this chord is kinda hard.” He tried again, it was better than his previous attempt but not by much.
“See? Better already.” Blaine scooted around Kurt to sit facing him on the bed. He watched as Kurt strummed the guitar, marvelling at how adorable he was with the instrument. “You’re right. Guys playing guitar are really hot.” Blaine laughed and kissed Kurt’s nose before letting him resume playing.
Kurt laughed as Blaine kissed his nose. “I only meant you, i’m not hot i look like a child and thats weird.” He tried again and it was getting better with each attempt and then he had one really bad try. “This guitar doesn’t like me.”
“You don’t look like a child.” Blaine laughed, and he laughed again when Kurt said the guitar didn’t like him. “I think it wants its daddy.” Blaine teased, petting the guitar. “Shhh, it’s okay. Kurt’s a nice guy. He won’t hurt you.” He comforted the guitar, laughing. Blaine looked back up at Kurt and leaned back on the bed. “You can try again if you want. Or you can try playing G again. Or you can give it to me and listen to me play.”
“Yeah i think guitar wants its daddy not the weird child holding it.” He smiled. “I think my choice is pretty obvious” he said handing back the guitar. “Its clearly your type of instrument not mine, thank you for teaching me those chords though. Maybe another day we can try again.”
“You’re not a weird child,” Blaine said, taking the guitar back when Kurt handed it to him. “And you’re welcome. The guitar just comes naturally to me, I guess.” He began to play randomly again, every once in a while throwing in parts from songs he knew. Blaine threw in Baby It’s Cold Outside, Animal, Candles, and a bunch of other songs that reminded him of Kurt.
Kurt recognised a lot of the songs that Blaine was playing, songs that they had sung together. When Blaine played Animal his face went red. “Pleaseeeee please don’t play that, that song haunts me after our performance.” He begged putting his face back into his hands laughing.
Blaine watched as Kurt turned red and he laughed along with him. “What are you talking about, Mr. Pink Face? Don’t let that certain performance ruin the song for you. I personally love that song.” He began to play Animal louder, and Kurt turned even redder. “Here we go again, I kinda wanna be more than friends so take it easy on me I’m afraid you’re never satisfied.” Blaine sang with a laugh when he was done.
“I love the song its just whenever i hear it i’m haunted by my performance and your words afterwards and then our talk and then mine and dads talk.” Kurt went even redder and laughed when Blaine sang the words. To stop him singing he leaned over and kissed him.
“I guess that’s all my fault anyways…” Blaine was silenced by a kiss from Kurt. Not that he was complaining. The guitar made a noise when Kurt leaned in closer, causing them both to break apart and stare at it. “Cockblocker.” Blaine said to his instrument, pushing it to the side.
Kurt stared down at the guitar when it made a noise and laughed when Blaine called it a cockblocker before pushing it aside. Once it was pushed aside Kurt leaned in again and kissed him.
Blaine smiled as Kurt kissed him again, leaning back a little bit as Kurt leaned into him. His hands held Kurt gently on his waist, and Blaine could feel Kurt’s hands rest on his chest. He fought the strong urge to run his hands through Kurt’s hair because he didn’t want to mess it up when Kurt couldn’t fix it.
Kurt rested his hands on Blaine’s chest as they continued to kiss, he felt Blaine’s hands gently place themselves on his waist. He felt Blaine lean back a little bit unsure if he was pulling away or just leaning back.
The way Blaine was sitting was making it hard for him to stay balanced, and he fell back onto the bed completely, not meaning to of course. He looked up at Kurt with apologetic eyes. “Sorry… gravity brought me do-” Kurt silenced him again. Blaine laughed inside his head and wrapped his arms around Kurt’s neck.
Kurt smiled and felt Blaine’s arms wrap around his neck, he placed his hands either side of Blaine’s head to keep his balance. He continued to kiss him, he thought he should stop but he didn’t want to, it was nice and he liked it.
Blaine’s eyes fluttered shut as the two kissed. He knew that his mom would be home any minute, and he knew that they were both not wanting for this to go anywhere. Just being with Kurt, having him kiss him and hold his head in his hands, was enough to keep Blaine’s stomach in butterflies. His hand moved up Kurt to his chest, gripping his shirt softly. As if on cue, Blaine heard his mom shout from downstairs “Blaine! I’m back!”
Kurt’s heart was racing faster with every kiss that was returned; he felt an explosion in his chest when Blaine gripped his shirt. Then he heard a voice call Blaine and he pulled away and sat up.
Blaine scowled and pointed to the door. “And that would be my mom…” He rubbed his hand through his hair. “Yeah, I know! I’m upstairs! Kurt’s here with me!”
“Alright, be safe!” Blaine wanted to kick himself. Come on mom, not in front of Kurt… He looked up at Kurt and sat up, his hands supporting him on the bed.
Kurt’s face went slightly pink when Blaine’s mom called up for them to ‘be safe’ he looked at Blaine and then the floor not at all sure of what to say next. He fiddled with his hands in his lap and crossed his legs.
Blaine sighed. He was not enjoying the turn of events. Kurt was playing with his hands and avoiding eye contact. Gee, thanks a lot Mom. I really needed that. He thought in his mind. Blaine’s eyes looked into Kurt’s, who was looking at the ground. “I’m sorry about my mom.” was all Blaine could think of to say.
“Its okay i just didn’t expect to hear that, thats all.” he laughed nervously. In the corner of his eye he could see Blaine looking at him, he tilted his head slightly so he was mainly looking at the floor but he was looking at Blaine also.
Blaine sighed through his nose and closed his eyes. “My mom is like a mix of Burt and Carole, if you can imagine. And she’s a bit crazy.” Blaine picked up his guitar again and began to play a song from The Little Mermaid. He didn’t want for there to be an awkward silence between them. He began to sing softly to himself, not sure if Kurt could hear.
“Oh perfect, thats great.” Kurt sighed just imagining a crossover between his dad and Carole. He sat listening to Blaine play the guitar, he didn’t hear him singing. He closed his eyes and listened to the music.
Blaine stopped singing and focused on just playing. He watched as Kurt closed his eyes and laid down on the bed. “Do you want to listen to me play all day or do we want to go do something?” Blaine asked, switching up the song again. He was now playing the chords to Teenage Dream, wondering if Kurt would recognize it.
