Kurt browsed at the comments and was hurt by what they said, he began reading them aloud.
“So never liked him. Awesome news.” “Always knew he was a diva.” “No talent, girl’s voice, should stick to cross dressing. Is that really how people see me?” Kurt looked at Mercedes and Rachel and his eyes were so sad, it was horrible. Amber moved herself and pushed down the laptop screen, it was funny because it seemed like she knew it was upsetting Kurt. She sat on the lid like to make sure that Kurt couldn’t open it to view more comments.
“No. It’s haters being haters, boo. Ignore it.” Mercedes said, furious that people were treating Kurt like this.
“How? Those people are happy I got fired. I didn’t look at the rest but I know there are many more who are happy about it too and said a lot worse. I don’t know guys. If people don’t want to see me act then I might as well quit.” Kurt moved Amber and the laptop and got up, looking at one of his movie posters and running his hand over it, remembering all the memories from shooting it.
There were gasps from behind him, Mercedes and Rachel were shocked to hear Kurt quitting, Kurt Hummel of all people just giving up like that.
“Of course you should!” Rachel said loudly, she would never let Kurt give up on a dream especially when he helped her get where she was today.
“Just let people talk, it doesn’t matter.” Mercedes rubbed his arm soothingly, neither of them really understanding Kurt right now.
“But it does matter, it matters so much. Mercedes, what if people booed at you when you opened up a concert? And Rachel, what if people covered your ears whenever you sang on Broadway?”
“Actually that did happen once,” Rachel started laughing, remembering the memory from when she was at NYADA. “I struggled on one song and it left my whole class covering their ears and wincing while I sang. I did stop singing that song.”
“See?” Kurt sighed, shrugging and looking at his best friends in the whole world, hoping they’d understand him.
“Okay, sure but still...” Mercedes started talking when she was interrupted by Kurt’s phone ringing again. Kurt didn’t move for a second because he was worried that it was a friend who was going to ask him about being fired. “Answer it.” Mercedes nudged him forward and he looked at it, lighting up when he saw Blaine’s name.
“Hi, Blaine!” His voice was a lot happier, that’s what Blaine did, he made him so happy.
“We need to talk.” Blaine sad down the phone.
“Blaine, I’m so glad you called. You are just the person I need to talk to.” Kurt grinned at his two friends who smiled back at him.
“Things aren’t right with us and you know it.” Kurt felt a pang in his chest when Blaine said that, he was so worried about what he was talking about and what he meant. Things between him and Blaine were fine, more than fine, they were perfect. Blaine continued talking. “They haven’t been for a while.”
“Wait, what? You can’t be serious.” Kurt’s face had dropped completely and his hands were shaking, this couldn’t be happening. “Blaine, come on.”
“I’m breaking up with you. Right now.” Kurt’s eyes started welling up with tears, gripping to the phone like it was a life line.
“No, Blaine. You’re not— Are you serious? What are you saying? I don’t understand.” Kurt cried. Mercedes and Rachel were exchanging worried looked, wondering what was being said.
“It’s over. If you’re smart, you’ll forever I ever existed.” Blaine said before hanging up, leaving a very tearful Kurt crying down the phone.
“Blaine!” Kurt cried. Mercedes and Rachel took the phone from him and guided him to the couch, sitting him down on it.
“What happened?” Rachel asked, taking one of Kurt’s hands in his.
“Blaine just broke up with me.” Kurt said, it was more painful, to say out loud because then it seemed more real and he’d have to accept it. Rachel gasped and held Kurt’s hand tighter; shaking her head as if to say it wasn’t true.
“Wait, just now? On the phone? What kind of guy does that?” Mercedes was so angry, who does that? It was such a jerkish thing to do. If you break up with someone, it should be face to face.
“I guess a guy with no real emotion.” Rachel said, earning herself a glare from Kurt who knew that Blaine had so many emotions. He sounded so powerful down the phone, like he was really angry and that he meant every single word.
“This doesn’t make any sense.” Kurt said, looking over at the picture of him and Blaine that was hanging on the wall. That picture was taken in Disneyland a couple of years ago, Blaine had been so desperate to go and Kurt had been working long hours so as soon as he finished that movie, he took Blaine there. He took the phone from Mercedes’ hand and tried to call Blaine back but there was no answer.
“Maybe you misunderstood.” Rachel tried to think of possibilities but came up with none. “What did he actually say?”
“It’s over. If you’re smart, you’ll forever I ever existed.” Kurt tried to calm himself down but it wasn’t working out too well, he was just too upset.
“Is there anyway that it could mean “i love you”? You know in a Blaine dorkish way?” Rachel was really failing at the possibilities but she was trying to help her friend, even if she sucked.
Mercedes stole the phone from Kurt’s hand and started playing with it, Kurt kept trying to take a look at what she was doing but she kept moving the phone away. “I’ve blocked him from your phone, your email, twitter, everything. You do not break up with someone that way, you just don’t. When I’m done, Rachel and I are getting you someplace far away from this set, from Blaine, where you can start actually feeling good about yourself.”
“Oooh like Florida?!” Rachel bounced up and down in her seat, excited about what Florida could bring Kurt and the thoughts of potential suitors for Kurt.
“I was thinking more of a place for spas and manis and pedis.” Rachel and Mercedes went on talking about places that Kurt could go before Kurt stood up and walked over to a bunch of flowers on the opposite side of the room.
“If i’m going to get away, I should get away. Far away.” Kurt said, holding a flower in his hand. “Like Aunt Maggie’s. She sent me these flowers. She’s a designer in Paris with her own fashion house.” Kurt was no longer crying, more excited at the thought of seeing his aunt and seeing the fashion house again. “There’s tons of people and energy and fabric and dresses and oh my god, I have to go!”
“When?” Rachel asked with a grin, even more excited at the thought of Kurt in that fashion house and the French men and the idea of a Paris romance.
“Now. I can go and spend a few weeks with her. I don’t need Blaine; I just need to book a flight.” Kurt knew that was a lie, he really did need Blaine but if Blaine wanted it to be over then there wasn’t a lot that he could do about it. He looked down at Amber and smiled. “Wanna go to Paris, girl?” Amber simply meowed in response.
