Kurt was playing the part of Prince Charming in a Cinderella movie, it is a dream come true for him. Finally, he could do something big and something to be proud of. He was in a movie and he was a Prince! No, he wasn’t a Disney prince but he was still a prince in a movie that he was sure was going to be come huge. He was so excited to be playing such a big part and his longterm boyfriend of ten years, Blaine, was thrilled for him.
Kurt as the Prince, tried to walk past the woman playing the step mother. But he was stopped, like it said so in the script. The room was well decorated, the walls were striped in different shades of blue and there was wooden flooring. The lighting was a chandelier and there were flowers on every surface that Kurt could see, but thankfully they were make and made to look incredibly real which Kurt had found out once. He had tried to smell them and water them, only to discover that they were fake.
“I’m sorry your Highness, but my daughters are dressing at this current moment.” The step mum said, blocking the door even more.
“I am aware of this but I heard of another young woman living here. You have been hiding her from me, she is of exquisite beauty and I intend to marry her.” Kurt smiled, looking over the woman’s shoulder to see the girl playing Cinderella on the set stairs. He smoothed down the red velvet suit he was wearing, it really was a very old fashioned suit and it looked great on him, except for the trousers being tucked into the socks, which looked terrible.
“M-Marry her?!” Kurt would’ve laughed if he wasn’t in character, the step mother’s face was hilarious and freaking out. This woman, Joanne, was an amazing actress and she was already big and she was destined to get bigger.
“Yes ma’am. I intend to marry her as soon as possible for I love her.” Kurt would never have said that in real life, he was in no way interested in girls as he was deeply in love with his boyfriend.
“You cannot see her, I am sorry your Highness but it is my daughters or someone else. Not her, she is my servant. Delos! Take Cinderella and lock her away.” Delos was the man who lived in the house who was some sort of guard that the step mother had. Instead of the actor playing Delos, these men dressed in rat costumes and... they were singing? They were dancing and rapping and Kurt’s face dropped completely. He had no signed up for this and he was even angrier at the fact that it wasn’t even in the script.
Mercedes and Rachel were Kurt’s best friends and they were watching Kurt from behind the cameraman, they looked at each other in shock when the rats came on and started singing and dancing. Rachel being Rachel, was jealous of Kurt’s movie success as she had not even yet become big on Broadway but she couldn’t stand this either.
“Rapping rats?!” Rachel said, her mouth on the floor and looking at Mercedes in the chair next to her.
“Girl, this is not good.” Mercedes sighed, finally managing to tear her eyes away from the rapping rats to look at her friend in the next chair. She looked back at the rapping rats just as they continued on with their long, exhausting and very terribly written rap.
“Mercedes, Kurt doesn’t look happy.” Rachel pointed out, noticing Kurt’s very disgusted and furious face.
“Rapping rats are so not in the script, Rachel.” Mercedes said as she flicked through Kurt’s script and showed Rachel that it said nothing about rapping rats or even rats at all. The only animals there were, were the little mice that they had that would be computer generated in later. There was nothing about men dressed in rat costumes and rapping. “I say five seconds before Kurt reaches the maximum capacity for “ugh!”Four, three, two, one...”
“Stop!” Kurt shouted, getting incredibly frustrated and annoyed at the untold change in the script. This was terrible and he really didn’t want to do it with those rapping rats.
“Yes. Thank you. Please stop the rats.” Joanne said, sighing and leaning against the set wall, looking at Kurt with relief as the director yelled “cut!”
“Is there some reason that you’re interrupting my shot?” The director, whose name was Jim, asked Kurt as he marched over to him. Jim was middle aged, his hair was brown with little bits of grey in them and his fashion sense was very... plain. He wore a simple green button up shirt with plain jeans, his shoes were scuffed and his beard needed trimming or shaved.
“Yes. The rapping rats... umm.... Did I miss them in the script?” Kurt asked, his arms followed and looking straight at the director. If there was something that Kurt didn’t like then Kurt would say it and everyone would know. And this was one of them things.
“Oh! Of course not.” Jim laughed, looking at his assistant Ricky who laughed too. “They’re brand new. A little pizzazz I added this morning. Haha! Or should I say, rat-zazz!” Everyone on the set, excluding Mercedes, Rachel, Kurt and Joanne laughed. They all found this hilarious but the others did not. Kurt and Joanne were ever serious about their careers and they were not about to let some rapping rats ruin it for them.
“That was a good one.” Jim said, nudging his assistant who grabbed his phone, way ahead of him before Jim spoke again. “Tweet that and put it on my blog. My audience needs to be in on it.”
“Yes sir.” Ricky spoke as he typed quickly away on his phone with the largest smile. Kurt had no idea who sweet, young Ricky who was barely out of school could stand Jim.
“Haha. Awesome. Rat-zazz. That’s really funny. You know, it just...” Kurt forced a laugh as he spoke. “It just doesn’t really make the story make sense, does it? I mean Cinderella is supposed to be about a delicate girl who needs rescuing from her evil family and the story of love at first sight. It is a simple story and Cinderella stays true to herself even though she has no one. It’s a story about how dreams can save a girl not rapping rats that lock Cinderella away.”
“Who cares? Rapping rats are hip!” Jim shouted, throwing his arms in the air and getting annoyed at Kurt’s interference. “You want to make something cool? Then add rapping animals. Ricky, give me the Google trends on rapping rats.”
Ricky held up the phone with an even bigger smile and announced that it was number one and that Jim was magic. Kurt looked at Joanne and rolled his eyes, not able to take much more of this.
“Hear that? Rapping rats are a number one trend, so they stay. From the stop, everyone!” Jim yelled as he started walking back to his chair and everyone else started going back to their places but Joanne and Kurt.
“Please Jim; I really don’t want the simple yet beautiful story of Cinderella to be ruined by something that is so unique. Please.” Kurt was actually close to begging, he couldn’t let his career get a bad reputation.
“You know that flapping thing you were doing with your mouth?” Jim grinned, mimicking a talking mouth with his hands.
“You mean, expressing my opinion?” Kurt sighed, knowing what was coming.
“Yeah, that. No more of that.” Jim told Kurt who sighed internally and wanted to scream that this was all wrong and if they could just discuss it. Jim continued walking away.
“I think Kurt is absolutely right.” Joanne finally spoke up. “It makes me wish that she was the one directing this movie.”
This made Jim stop in his tracks and turn around, his face red with anger. “Whoa, whoa, whoa! Is that what you want pretty boy? To direct this movie? Are you making a play for my job?!”
“No, Jim. No!” Kurt said with a confident voice, although everyone knew he’d do a much better job than Jim. Jim was hopeless yet somehow a famous director who was popular with the public. “I just thought we could talk. You know, two passionate artists working together to create something amazing that they both love.”
“Ah. Right. I think i’ve got the perfect answer.” Kurt’s eyes lit up with hope. “Get off my set.”
“Okay great! We could talk in the trailers or we could talk in the coffee shop, or maybe—“
“Hmmmm. No. Not us get off the set. You get off the set. You’re fired!” Jim used a megaphone to shout at Kurt telling him he was fired.
Kurt’s face dropped in shock and he was upset while Rachel and Mercedes exchanged shocked looks to each other. He stood there just trying to take in what just happened while Jim started rounding up everyone else so they could take it from the top. He even told one of the rapping rats to stand in for the Prince Charming character.
“I’m fired?” Kurt said in disbelief.
