Chapter 8: I promise.
Blaine leant his head into Kurt's chest "I'm sorry, I'm sorry so sorry Kurt. I'm sorry." He was. He'd never felt more disappointed in himself. He had let Kurt down, again. Kurt held the boy to his chest tightly, as if he was afraid to let him go. He was shaking himself. Stroking Blaine's curls he comforted him softly.
"It's okay, honey. I've got you. I'm here now. I'm sorry. I-I didn't know." Blaine snivelled and looked up.
"Know what?"
"Wes texted you after you left. I saw the conversation and the internet page of rings. I'm so sorry Blaine, You can propose whenever you like, and I want to spend my life with you so I know that I'll say yes."
Blaine tensed."You saw that...?" He choked crying even more. "But I'm not going to anytime soon Kurt, I was just thinking maybe when I left school but I-I-I don't even know, Kurt." Kurt leaned in and kissed his boyfriend softly on the lips.
"You can propose whenever you want. Whenever you feel comfortable with it, I guess it's just scary, that's all."
"You don't have to be scared, Kurt. We're in this together." They linked hands and Blaine uncrossed his arms and Kurt saw 4 new cuts on Blaine's left arm. He winced at the sight of them and went to get the towels, plasters and antiseptic wipes he had brought with him.
"This might sting a bit, but it's for the better. Okay?" Kurt said as he wiped over each cut with an antiseptic wipe. Blaine winced a little bit but held his ground. "Sorry sweetie, worst bit over." He then held a towel to them to soak up any new blood that had appeared. After they had stopped bleeding Kurt placed a plaster on each of them, kissing each plaster after he placed it on. "There. All better." He looked up at Blaine whose eyes were now filling with tears again.
"Thank you, Kurt. I don't know what I would do without you." Kurt just put his arms around Blaine's waist as Blaine threw his arms around his neck. Kurt held him tightly and comforted him as he let it all out. "I'm so-"
"No. No more apologising, Blaine." He leaned in and kissed him again, a kiss so full of love, forgiveness , compassion and understanding that Blaine knew he would be okay. As they pulled away, Kurt wiped the tears off of his and Blaine's cheeks and kissed him on the forehead. "Blaine, I'm leaving again in two days time. I have to go back to New York. But I'm worried about you. Please, promise me you won't do this again. Please? If you need to or want to just call me okay, I don't care what absurd time it is. I'm here for you."
"Thank You. I promise. I really do. I promise." He threw his arms around Kurt's neck again.
"Let's get you home then ‘ey?" Kurt whispered. Blaine looked nervous staring down at his arm. "They know. Finn was the one who figured out you were alone in blades reach and that's why I left to come and get you instead of letting you cool off." Blaine just nodded silently and grabbed Kurt's hand like his life depended on it as he made his way towards the car.
-
"We're home!" Kurt called out. Everyone came running in and took one look at Blaine's arm and smothered him in hugs. He never let go of Kurt's hand through this. When they broke off he just looked down and sighed. "I know...it's a stupid thing to do. I'm sorr-"
"No apologies, remember!" Kurt interrupted.
"Oh yeah...I just. Thank you. For not judging me, I really don't mean to do it. I feel so terrible that i did now I-" Carole threw herself onto him, cradling him in a massive hug.
"We know. It's okay. Shh." Blaine hugged back tightly. "Why don't we all head to bed. It's over now: forgotten. It doesn't matter anymore." Blaine was silently thankful as they all went upstairs, slightly shaken from the nights events.
Both boys -still in just their pyjama pants- went into their room. Kurt pulled them both out a t-shirt and they got into bed freezing cold. It was a mid-October night and they had both been shirtless. The pulled up the covers to their necks and held each other. Blaine was gripping onto Kurt's shirt, which was miles too big (hence why he slept in it) like a baby would with her mother. As sweet as Kurt found this, it worried him. "Blaine, my love?"
"Mhh"
"Is there still something wrong? Only, you're clinging to my shirt like I'm going to fall into a black hole any minute now."
"No. I'm just trying to hold you while I can." He pulled himself even closer and kissed the boys chest. Kurt sighed and just put his hand on Blaine's head holding it there. He knew he had to be there for him
-
He woke up the next morning in the opposite position, his head on Blaine's chest and Blaine's arm around him. He rolled off and sat up kissing Blaine on the lips gently to wake him up. Blaine opened his beautiful hazel brown eyes, his curly hair sticking up at all angles. He looked absolutely adorable. "Morning sunshine!" He said brightly kissing Kurt back. "We've got to get ready! Big day today!"
"We do?"
"Yep! I have the whole day planned!" Kurt laughed at his boyfriend's liveliness.
"So what are we doing?"
"A surprise thing! Now get dressed!" Kurt continued giggling placed a chaste kiss on Blaine's forehead and did as he was told.
When they we're fully dressed and showered they went downstairs got some breakfast and brushed their teeth together. Blaine was goofily grinning the entire time and was finding it impossible to stop. He looked at his watch, he had 20 minutes until show time. He grabbed Kurt's hand pulling him out of the front door past the living room, waving at the four in the living room. Nobody had forgotten last night, but they all knew what today was so they kept quiet and knowingly smiled at each other.
-
They finally pulled up at the Lima Bean cafe. Blaine had blindfolded Kurt so he got out the car, went to the other side and opened Kurt's door. Taking his hand he directed him inside. Sitting him at a table, Blaine left to set up the surprise. Kurt could recognise the smell of the place and he knew he was at a table, but he was completely lost otherwise.
Blaine's voice came booming across a microphone. "Kurt Hummel. Please remove your blindfold!" Kurt did as he was told and was over the moon when he saw where he was. He looked around for any sight of Blaine, and couldn't see him anywhere. Then he saw a stage, and the New Directions; old and New. Finn and Rachel ran in past him and joined them on stage. Carole and Burt came in and stood behind where Kurt was sat. Blaine came on stage in the same outfit he had worn during the performance of T.G.I.F.
"Kurt Hummel. This is for you. Listen. I mean every word."
The Glee club began to softly vocalise. Then behind them onto a higher part of the stage came the Warblers as they all vocalised together, Blaine stepped up to the microphone.
When I look into your eyes,
It's like watching the night sky,
Or a beautiful sunrise,
There's so much they hold,
And just like them old stars,
I see that you've come so far,
To be right where you are,
Well how old is your soul,
Blaine looked right into Kurt's eyes as he sang. His voice was beautiful as per usual and Kurt gripped onto every single lyric.
I won't give up on us,
Even if the skies get rough,
I'm giving you all my love,
I'm still looking up,
And when you're needing your space,
To so some navigating,
I'll be here patiently waiting,
To see what you find,
Blaine took a deep breath as he went for the big not letting out all of his emotions. He loved Kurt so much, and this was his way of showing him.
Cause even the stars they burn,
Some even fall to the earth,
We've got a lot to learn,
God knows we're worth it,
No I won't give up,
I don't wanna be someone who walks away so easily,
I'm here to stay and make the difference that I can make,
Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use the tools and gifts we got,
Yeah we got a lot at stake,
And in the end you're still my friend at least we did intend,
For us to work we didn't break we didn't burn,
We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in,
I had to learn what I've got and what I'm not and who I am,
I won't give up on us,
Even if the skies get rough,
I'm giving you all my love,
I'm still looking up,
Still looking up,
I won't give up on us,
God knows I'm tough enough,
We've got a lot to learn,
God knows we're worth it.
I won't give up on us,
Even if the skies get rough,
I'm giving you all my love,
I'm still looking up,
The glee clubs finished and the audience burst into applause, Blaine ran from the stage like a cannonball into Kurt's arms, Kurt threw his arms around Blaine's neck and they hugged for about a minute when they broke arms, they put their hands onto each other's waists and leaned in for a kiss. It started off soft and grew into the most meaningful kiss they had ever shared. Everyone around them burst into applause and catcalls. When they both broke apart, they both blushed bright red and holding Kurt's hand tightly Blaine took a bow.
A waiter approached them and handed them two drinks; a Medium Drip and a Grande Non-Fat Mocha. Blaine took them and sat down with Kurt as the other glee clubbers took seats or headed home after saying goodbye to "Klaine". "Today is going to be perfect." Blaine whispered to Kurt.
It was. After they left the Lima Bean, Blaine had driven Kurt to the park and they'd just walked around holding hands soaking up the other ones every little move or detail. Blaine had made a picnic for them both and had a little tartan rug for them to sit on.
When they had finished lunch, Blaine had driven them back home and they had just stayed in bed in each other's arms watching only the best Disney films. Then they had gone back out for dinner at breadsticks. When they finally got in the car on the way home they were both over the moon at how the day had gone.
They said goodnight to the other couples and Kurt went to go upstairs, but Blaine turned around and dragged him back out again. They went to Blaine's secret underground room and Kurt saw a double bed sized blow up mattress made into a bed, with their usual quilts and pillows and everything. Blaine just smiled at Kurt, locked the door that nobody knew of and kissed Kurt passionately.
-
An hour later they were laying holding each other when Blaine got up and put some clothes on. Kurt looked at him confused but did the same. Looking at his watch Blaine smiled. "It's time!" he exclaimed.
"For what?"
"You didn't think I just brought you here for that right?" He grabbed Kurt's hand and headed outside, laying down the picnic rug he pulled Kurt down on top of it and him. Kurt had his head on Blaine's chest as they looked up at the sky. Hundreds of shooting stars began zooming across the sky.
"It happens once every thousand years or so, and it looks like, we got lucky." He placed a kiss on Kurt's head.
"Or you're brilliant at planning?"
"That too."
"Make a wish."
They both wished the same thing. "I wish I could stay with you forever."
About half an hour later, Blaine took off his jumper and wrapped it around a sleeping Kurt, He slowly picked him up and carried him to the car gently. Placing him in the passenger seat he locked the car door, ran to retrieve the blankets and picnic rug, threw them in the boot and drove home.
When they arrived, he placed Kurt down onto their bed, went back out to get the blankets and rug silently. He came back upstairs to their bedroom, he softy lifted Kurt's head and placed a pillow underneath. He draped the blanket over him and tucked him in softly, placing a kiss to his forehead as he did so. "You really love him don't you." Burt smiled from the edge of the doorway.
"More than anything." Blaine whispered in reply. "I'm so sorry about yesterday , Sir, I would never even think of marrying your son without getting your full permission first."
"I know, do you promise to take care of my son? To keep him safe and to love him unconditionally of whatever crap you two find yourselves in?"
"Of course!" He gently brushed Kurt's hair off of his delicate face, "I promise."
"Then you have my blessing, whenever you feel ready to propose, I will support you 100%." Blaine ran across the room and enveloped Burt in a giant bear hug.
"Thank you, Burt. I won't let you down." They broke free, Blaine smiling goofily and Burt just laughing in response.
"Get some rest, kiddo. You did good today." He left the boys alone. Blaine crawled into bed next to Kurt who instantly snuggled into Blaine's chest, holding him tightly.
Placing a kiss to Kurt's hairline Blaine whispered to himself.
"I promise."
