Chapter 4.
Kurt and Blaine stood side by side outside of their once shared apartment. Blaine looked at Kurt, he was staring at the blue door like it was the answer to everything in the universe, like it needed figuring out. They stood in silence for about two minutes when Blaine's nerves got the better of him and he knew if he didn't act soon, his brain might just explode.
"Ready?" He asked breaking the silence.
Kurt took a deep breath and nodded, he might as well go for it. What had he got to loose?
Blaine tentatively placed his hand on the gold door knob and twisted it, opening the door oh so slightly, as if he was nervous of something inside escaping.
Kurt walked in with a blank expression on his face. He was trying desperately to remember, reaching as far back into his brain as he could, yet nothing was revealing itself to him. He heard the door close and ignored it, as he continued to walk around what had once allegedly been his home. Home. He thought to himself, if this is my home, why can't I remember it? He shook the thought away and continued to scour the apartment for something, anything, to trigger a memory. He just needed something to set it off and he knew it would all come flying back.
But, alas, after walking around the apartment looking at every single item, he still remembered nothing. "Nothing, huh?" Blaine asked as he walked towards him.
"How did you know-" Kurt was taken aback, how did he know exactly what he was thinking?
"Hush, you. We were dating for three years, nearly four. We lived together for two of them. I can tell what you're thinking." Blaine said simply. He then walked across the room and got out a large, faded, red box with a tattered picture of the two of them glued on, and underneath in magazine letters was the words "Memories" spelt out. Blaine smiled sadly as he sat on the sofa and put the box on the coffee table. He patted the sofa to gesture for Kurt to sit too.
Kurt sat next to him and Blaine began to speak, never once loosing eye contact with the slightly worn out box in front of him. "We made this when we first moved in, every single picture of us, or anything we did is in here."
Kurt opened the box shakily and began to look at photos. There were hundreds, and in all of them he and Blaine both wore a giant grin. "We look so...happy." He smiled slightly and continued to go through all the pictures.
"That's because we were." Blaine said as he also looked through photos.
Kurt sighed and put them down, trying to stop the tears building in his eyes. "Hey, what's wrong?" asked Blaine taking his hand.
"I'm sorry. I really am. But, I can't remember any of these things!" Kurt cried shaking.
Blaine pulled him into his arms and began rubbing soothing patterns into his back. "shh, it's okay. I understand." He whispered. "It'll take a while. Don't get too upset over this, okay? You can't help it."
Kurt nodded into Blaine's neck and pulled away, Blaine quickly wiped the tears from falling down Kurt's face and kissed his forehead. Kurt sighed and rested against him. They sat on the sofa, Blaine's arm around Kurt, for a few minutes until Blaine broke the silence once again.
"So, what do you want to do?"He asked squeezing Kurt to him gently.
"Let's keep trying to look through the photos. Put some music on or something, things that I'd remember that are to do with us."
Blaine agreed and put his IPhone in the dock, playing his "Kurt" playlist. As "candles" began to play, he went to find more significant items.
A few hours later no progress had been made. "I give up!" Kurt declared, gathering all of the photos together. He put them back in the box and closed it with a little too much force.
"Maybe this is enough for today, I mean, clearly nothing's happening, so maybe we could try again tomorrow?" Blaine suggested, clearing everything else away.
"Yeah...I'm gonna head back to Finchel's." He said, standing up.
"No!" Blaine responded a little too quickly and loudly. "I mean, uh, don't go yet, we don't have to try to remember stuff, but maybe if you become familiar with all this stuff it will just come back faster."
"I have to go back at some point. I can't just stay the night!" Kurt laughed.
"Why not? I mean, this is your apartment. I can sleep on the couch tonight if you feel weird about this or anything?" He rambled slightly.
"I-I don't know. This is all so weird. You're a stranger, but at the same time, I'm in love with you and I feel like I've known you for ages. I know have, but it's so different because I'm looking at you and god, I just feel so guilty, I feel like I know those eyes and I know that smile, but I have no idea where from or why they make me feel this way!"Kurt exclaimed, and then with a sigh he dropped his head to face his lap.
"That's okay. Stay here and if you feel weird, then you can leave whenever." Blaine suggested, trying to get into Kurt's lowered line of vision.
"I don't even have any stuff here." He murmured.
"Actually you have two boxes full. Evidently you suck at packing." Blaine joked. Kurt smiled slightly and nodded in agreement. "I'll tell Finn now, he can bring you down your moisturisers then too." Blaine teased as he got up.
Kurt gave a confused look and went to say something but Blaine beat him to it. "Practically four years, Kurt. I said, I know these things!" He flashed Kurt a quick grin and left to get blankets out for the couch.
He placed them down on the armchair and texted Finn. Within 5 minutes Finn and Rachel had arrived with Kurt's moisturisers, and toothbrush. "Thanks guys." He said as he reached to take them, but found himself beaten to it by Blaine, who grinned and then left to put them in the bathroom.
"Are you sure about this, Kurt?" Rachel asked, "I mean, is it a good idea to stay here if you can't even remember Blaine yet?"
"I don't know. Maybe, just being here will trigger it." He shrugged.
"Okay, man. But if you need to come back to ours at any point then feel free." Finn said, patting Kurt on the shoulder.
"Thanks Finn." Kurt replied gratefully. When did Finn get this nice to me? He thought to himself, but he wasn't complaining.
They said their goodbye's and left. Kurt turned around to see Blaine setting up the table with a toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwich for each of them. Kurt smiled. It was his favourite. He looked at Blaine in disbelief, Blaine just returned the look with an I told you so one. "I know I haven't eaten dinner yet, and judging by the sauce on Finn's shirt that appeared in the past three hours, you didn't eat before you left either. It's too late for a meal, so I thought I'd make your favourite." He blushed slightly as he scratched the back of his neck.
"It's perfect. Thank you." Kurt smiled and sat down opposite Blaine.
When they had finished, Blaine suggested they watched a movie. He let Kurt pick, because in his mind, he had missed 3 years of amazing films. He pulled out the Katy Perry movie, having no idea it had even been made. He sat down next to Blaine on the couch and snuggled in next to him. Blaine put an arm around Kurt again and covered them both in a thin blanket. As the movie played Kurt picked up on one song as the background music played over her talking. "Blaine!" He exclaimed, sitting up. "What's that song?"
Blaine's heart jumped about a mile in his chest. There was a reason Kurt would pick up on that song. He paused the movie. "Teenage dream." He said, barely controlling the massive smile that spread across his face.
"Play it for me." Kurt demanded, he was onto something.
Blaine ran across the room and hit the play button on his IPhone, which was still in the dock, and ran back to Kurt. Within the first verse though, Kurt was shaking his head and looking at Blaine apologetically. Seeing the tears emerge in Kurt's eyes, he embraced him tightly and held him there. It was then that he began to softly sing along to the music which was still playing in the background. Kurt could feel the vibrations of Blaine singing softly against his ear, and slowly, something clicked. He tensed up and Blaine backed off, reading Kurt like a book. "Kurt, sorry, did you not want me to sing or-" He was cut off by Kurt's lips against his.
He moaned slightly and leaned into the kiss, placing his hands on Kurt's waist, as Kurt's found their way around Blaine's neck. When Kurt's tongue pushed gently against Blaine's lips they both figured they should stop. But neither one of them could master up the strength to pull away.
