A Long Time Later...
Kurt sat in his rocking chair, rocking back and forth. It was a warm spring day and the nurses at the nursing home had put him out to enjoy the sunshine. His great grandchildren were sitting next to him and Kurt was taking a break from telling his story.
"So what happened next?" Abbey, the youngest, asked.
Kurt smiled and said, "Well, I hopped on a plane to Ohio that very moment and ended up at your Grandpappy's house. I played our song on my iPod speakers and he came running out. We ended up singing together and we got back together. And I have spent the rest of my life with him. We've been all over the world. We were both famed actors on the Broadway stage in our youth. The Anderson-Hummel name was as common in every household as eggs and milk. Your Grandpappy was also a big hit with the ladies. I can't count the number of times girls tried to take him away from me. But your Grandpappy was a loyal man and he would always come home to me every night." Kurt sighed and looked out.
It's been years since all of this happened and his memory was getting fuzzier and fuzzier every day. But somehow he could still remember everything with Blaine. Blaine was always a bright, dapper young man in Kurt's mind. All the great grandchildren smiled. Grandpa Kurt and Grandpappy Blaine were a true testimony to the power of true love. Kurt yawned as he felt tiredness wash over him.
Luckily his grand-daughter, Rose, was there and said, "Come on, kids. We have to go now. Lucy is waiting for all of us in the car. Say goodbye to Grandpa Kurt." The 4 children gave Kurt a hug and a kiss on the cheek before running off the porch to go to the car.
"Bye, Grandpa." Rose said, pecking him on the cheek.
"Bye, Rose. Say hello to Stuart for me." Rose smiled and nodded. Then she was gone. Kurt rocked for a little while and then grabbed his cane.
His knees weren't as good as they used to be. Years of dancing on a Broadway stage can do that to you but Kurt wouldn't take it back for the world. Kurt hobbled into the nursing home and made his way to a little room, where the sounds of piano were heard. He leaned against the doorway as he saw his husband play the piano. Blaine was in his own little world, lost in the music and memory.
Blaine was thinking about all the years he spent with Kurt and their family. He heard a noise at the doorway and smiled. He already knew who was there so it was no surprise when Kurt sat down next to him on the piano bench.
"You still play beautifully after all these years." Kurt said, leaning into Blaine.
"I'm surprised as you are." Blaine replied, his fingers tickling the high keys. "I was pretty sure I'd forget."
Kurt smiled and said, "You're talented. I bet you could forget everything, even me, and still be able to play piano."
Blaine smiled and said, "I hope not. I would rather forget how to play piano than forget you."
Kurt chuckled and said, "Always the romantic."
Blaine looked at Kurt in the eyes while still playing. "Only for you."
They looked into each other's eyes and the love was still there. Enduring, beautiful, sweet and strong. Blaine started playing the beginning chords to the song that started it all.
Kurt laid his head on Blaine's shoulder and sang along softly. "You think I'm pretty without any make-up on. You think I'm funny when I tell the punchline wrong..."
Two nurses stood outside the door and sighed in unison. "They are so beautiful together. Their love is just so...strong." One nurse said. The other nodded.
"This is a true story about soulmates." The first nurse made a noise of agreement and all four people just stood there, lost in the true love of Kurt and Blaine Anderson-Hummel.
