There were boys everywhere. And boys of every size, shape, and color. So many boys on that crowded stair case that one day. They were all heading to listen to the Warblers sing; excited to hear what pop hit rendition they had cooked up this time. They were all expecting another Katy Perry hit; and they wouldn’t be disappointed. One of the boys was very out of uniform, obviously from another school. He was looking for someone who could give him directions. Suddenly, a kid with curly black hair flashed into his mind. Kurt looked around, expecting to see him, but there was no one in sight. He eventually found his way to the room, but the Warblers told him that practice was cancelled due to the lead singer dry heaving in the bathroom. Kurt left, disappointed, vowing to come back another day when he could actually listen to them.

“Kurt, if you use any more of that stuff your lushes locks will be sticking up for weeks! Lay off the hair spray, boy!” Mercedes was telling Kurt as they stood in front of the girls’ bathroom mirror. With the door locked, of course. They didn’t want the jocks knowing he had used that bathroom.

“Excuse me for wanting my hair to look good Miss I-Can-Wear-Any-Weave-And-I’ll-Look-Good,” he scoffed at his best friend.

“Whatever.” Mercedes looked at her phone and made a frustrated face.

“I’m late for class!” she exclaimed. After saying a quick goodbye-and sorry to Kurt for accidently knocking the can out of his hands in the process of hugging him- Mercedes rushed out of the classroom.

As soon as he walked out of the bathroom, Kurt had this…feeling. He didn’t know what it was; he just knew that something bad was going to happen.

He started walking down the hall, trying to ignore the growing feeling in his gut when a strong, meaty hand grabbed his shoulder and thrust him into the lockers.

Though he will think about it for the next few years, Kurt will never know why he followed Karofsky that day. If he had known what would happen he would have stayed where he was and not moved. But since people can’t see into the future, Kurt didn’t know that one of the most traumatizing events in his life was about to happen. He yelled across the hall.

“Hey! I’m talking to you!” He followed Dave into the locker room. Kurt remembers arguing, but he didn’t know what he was saying. All of a sudden, the jock thrust out his hands and grabbed Kurt’s face. He forcefully pulled their heads together and covered the smaller boy’s mouth with his own. Kurt could taste his spit; could feel his sweaty palms against his face. He put his hands against the boy’s chest and pushed him backwards. When Karofsky made to kiss him again, Kurt backed up, staring at the boy with wet eyes full of tears about to fall. Dave punched the locker, leaving a dent, and stalked out of the room.

Kurt ran out of the locker room just as some people were coming in. He didn’t look at anyone, didn’t care that you could tell he was about to cry, didn’t care that a teacher was yelling at him to stop running, he didn’t care about anything. He ran to his car, flung open the door, and sat in the front seat. He leaned forward and placed his head on the steering wheel. For a minute he just sat there, tears streaming down his cheeks. Then, he let out a heart wrenching sob. He covered his mouth with his hands and screamed, like he was screaming for his life. When he had calmed down, he curled up into as much of a ball as he could considering he was sitting in the front seat of a car, and cried out his heart.

Suddenly Kurt thought of that boy he had pictured in his mind from earlier before. All he saw in his mind was a blurry face; he couldn’t even make out any of the features, of a boy. The only noticeable thing was that it looked like he had dark curls, but they looked…controlled. Like the boy was wearing gel or something.

Kurt didn’t even know why he thought of this person, but for some reason it made him feel better.
