As the weeks passed, Blaine made his way into Kurt's life more and more. Nowadays, Mercedes and Rachel were joining them at the Lima Bean to get coffee. Sometimes, the girls would be joining them in the ASL lesson. Blaine even used his football knowledge once to save McKinley from a loss by default for the Titan's last match of the season. Him and Kurt went to see the game, with Carole and Burt. He really enjoyed the game, his inner football fan quite content. He also enjoyed the elaborate choreography of the half time show. He really was impressed that, in the end, all the players were a part of the number, along with the members of New Directions.
For Valentine's day, Blaine joined Rachel at her table at Breadstix, during Kurt's Lonely Hearts Club Dinner. He still didn't have to guts to speak to Kurt. Tell him how amazing he was. How it meant to him that Kurt was treating him as an equal, not just someone with a disability who always needed help. Yes, Kurt was aware of Blaine's deafness. But to Kurt, it was not something that was making Blaine inferior, it was only a part of Blaine, like his hazel eyes. Blaine was grateful for that, because most of the people of his age were avoiding him, telling that he should be in a special school with the other retards. He never had trouble at Dalton, even if he had trouble making friends, but he was in hell at his old high school.
A few weeks later, Blaine got from Kurt an invitation for the Rachel-Berry-House-Party-Train-Wreck-Extravaganza (he learned afterwards that it was because Kurt had blackmailed Finn into talking to Rachel about inviting him). He really was glad to go and be able to meet Kurt's circle of friend from McKinley. At the party, he found out that all the people in the Glee Club were like Kurt. Not acting on the fact that Blaine was deaf but working with that fact. Not trying to include him too much, but letting him being a part of the group at his own pace.
During the party, Puck broke into Rachel's dads liquor cabinet and Blaine didn't really remember the rest of the night. He had flashes of trying to tell Finn that he was tall and bouncing on a stage with Rachel. They're might have been a Spin the Bottle game before that, but his mind was blurry.
In fact, the next morning, everything was still blurry. He was in a comfy bed, but he was wearing too much clothes. He opened his eyes and saw that he was in Kurt's room. He never had seen the place before, but everything in there was just Kurt so he immediately knew. Looking around, he didn't see Kurt anywhere. The door, though, was partially open and people were speaking animatedly just outside the room, according to their body language. Somehow, he knew that he had something to do with the argument occurring on the other side of the wall.
When Blaine started to move around in the bed, the two shadows stilled in the hallway. Kurt's head poked in the room, smiling nervously.
"I'll be there in a minute." Kurt said.
Blaine only nodded, wondering what was happening. While he waited, he sat on the bed and stretched his sore limbs. He then tried to remember everything that happened the previous night. He touched his lips as Rachel's kiss came to his mind and he immediately felt embarrassed. He never knew he could be interested in girls. But was it really it or was it because for the first time in his life he was kissed by someone? Did he like Rachel or did he like the fact that she was interested in him? Then he remembered Kurt and he forgot all about Rachel in an instant.
Blaine took a deep breath when he saw the shadow of Kurt returning to his room.
"How did you sleep?" Kurt asked as he re-entered the bedroom.
"Pretty well. You have a really comfortable bed" Blaine replied, smiling.
The conversation ended there. There was an uneasiness between them that was certainly caused by something that Blaine had done the previous night. If only he knew what it was, he could make amend for it and fix things.
But before he could do anything, Kurt raised his hands first.
"My dad isn't really happy." Kurt said "Apparently I crossed the line by inviting you to sleep here."
Blaine lowered his head in shame. If he had not been drinking the previous night, Kurt wouldn't be in trouble. Kurt poked Blaine's shoulder before continuing.
"I told him that I was more concerned about your safety than his rules." Kurt said with a mischievous smile. "I just could not let you drive!"
Kurt smiled then turned into a frown as he continued to speak
"What did you want to say?" he asked out loud
But Blaine just made a careless gesture. If Kurt was acting this way, maybe he didn't do anything wrong the night before. Blaine decided to forget all about it. He did not want to worry without a reason to do so.
"That's good!" Kurt replied. "For a moment I thought it was about the fact that I made you sleep in the same bed as me. Sorry about that by the way. I did not want to wake up the entire house by pulling the air mattress from the bottom of the closet"
"It's okay! I didn't mind. It's what friends do, right?" Blaine replied with a smile.

An hour later, Kurt was dropping Blaine in front of Rachel's house so he could get his car back. On the way back to his house, Kurt could only think about one thing : Blaine.
The previous night, Blaine had been slightly drunk. He even made out with Rachel. Kurt was hurt, but he was sure that Blaine was gay and that Rachel did not mean anything to the other boy. On the other hand, in Kurt's ears was still ringing a clear and sincere laugh. A laugh he never imagined he would hear. Blaine's laugh was music to him. And because Blaine never made any sound around him, Kurt always thought that he was mute as well. Blaine's voice had made him feel strange when he heard it in his car. Blaine hadn't made any sound at Rachel's house, but when he had been in Kurt's Navigator, he didn't stop. As he was driving back to his house, after dropping Blaine, Kurt remembered : the other teenager had been lying in the backseat and tracing some weird patterns with his hands raised. If he was signing, Kurt had not recognized any words. This seemed to be really funny to Blaine because he did not stop laughing on the way back to Kurt's house.
Kurt wished he had been able to see Blaine's face. He remembered the way Blaine was scrunching his face when something was funny. Kurt could only associate the face with the laugh that was coming out of Blaine's mouth. The two mixed together was the perfect picture of happiness.
Kurt now had two new goals in his life : make Blaine laugh out loud again and find out why he had been so self conscious about his voice before being stripped of all inhibitions by alcohol.

Two weeks later, the Warblers tried a new approach with their numbers. They invited the girls from their sister school, Crawford Country Day, to show off their sexy moves. Kurt had the chance to perform a duet with Nick. Thing was, at the end of the performance, the girls from Crawford came to see him and told him he was the less sexy of the boys and that maybe he should work on that if it was what the Warbler were aiming for.
Hearing these words, Kurt was hurt. How was he supposed to know anything about sex when the only thing remotely sexual he has done in his life was kissing Brittany and not allowing her to let her hands wander below the belt. He arrived with a bad mood in the Senior Commons, where Blaine was waiting for him. They were supposed to go at Kurt's house for their now weekly ASL lesson.
Kurt was getting better and better, he only needed more vocabulary words. So, Blaine and him would talk for an hour about a subject chosen by Blaine so Kurt could improve his knowledge.
Blaine immediately saw how grumpy Kurt was. He never was unhappy after a Warbler practice. It only took a subtle text message from Blaine to Jeff to find out what had happened at the practice. As soon as he learned the situation, overheard by almost every Warbler, an idea spread in Blaine's mind.
When they arrived at Kurt's house, they went to their usual spot in Kurt's room : Blaine sitting, with his legs crossed, on the bench while Kurt took seat on the bed, trying not to sit on his hands as he normally would. Ever since the "Drunk Blaine Accident", Burt insisted that the boys leave the door opened at all times. Burt knew that the boys weren't officially together but that it was just a matter of time, it was like a sixth sense.
"So what's our topic today?" Kurt asked, eager to improve his ASL skills
Blaine then raised his right hand next to his cheek, his pointer finger shaped like a hook and his other fingers folded on the palm of his hands. He then lowered his hand a bit across his cheek, only a few inches. While he signed, he looked at Kurt, waiting for some kind of reaction even if he knew that Kurt had no idea of the meaning of what Blaine had said.
"What?" Kurt asked
"S-E-X" Blaine spelled
The reaction was immediate. Kurt blushed from his neck to the tips of his ears. He felt the heat rush through his body as if he had been thrown in boiling water.
"I don't think I'm ready for this conversation." Kurt tried to sign over his nerves. Blaine really took him by surprise as if he knew what happened that afternoon.
"Really? Because I think we can kill two birds with one stone here. Make you comfortable and you can improve your vocabulary." Blaine explained to a ever blushing Kurt.
But Kurt shook his head strongly and crossed his arms in front of him, as if he was trying to hide from Blaine.
"Kurt, you are going to have to learn about it someday" Blaine said, trying to keep his emotions down, remaining as calm as he could.
"Well not today" Kurt said, keeping his arms crossed, wondering just how much Blaine knew about the subject anyway. "I think we should find something else to talk about, unless you want to leave"
Eventually, the conversation drifted but Kurt kept his arms in front of him, never opening to Blaine, to the conversation. Blaine had breached a subject that made him lock down.

A few days later, while he was working on an old car engine, Burt saw Blaine entering the garage with an un-assured pace and a white board in his hands.
When Blaine saw that Burt was looking at him, he smiled, and waved his hand.
"Can you pass me the carburetor?" Burt asked, making sure to face Blaine while he spoke.
Blaine knew that the last time Burt saw him, he was asleep in Kurt's bed, unaware that Burt had come in the room, shouting for Kurt to get up and teach him all about brunch. So he did not read much into the fact that Burt asked for a carburetor instead of greeting him ; he just gave him the part he needed to continue his work.
"How did you know which one it was?" Burt asked, looking at Blaine from under the hood.
Blaine took his white board and started to write.
My father and I rebuilt a '59 old Chevy, in our driveway, two summers ago. It was one of his attempts at bounding.
He then showed the board to Burt, who had made no gestures to take it in his greasy hands.
"Are you here looking for parts?" Burt asked after reading Blaine's board.
Blaine erased his board and took a deep breath. This wasn't going to be easy.
No actually. I'm here to talk about Kurt. Don't worry, he's okay. I was just wondering if you ever talked to him about sex?
Blaine closed his eyes before showing Burt the board. He did not open them until he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Are you gay or...? Not that it matters..." Burt asked, his eyes questioning.
Blaine nodded, happy that Burt asked a question that could easily be answered by yes or no.
"Okay, good." Burt said "Because Kurt needs someone to, you know, to talk to"
Blaine shook his head, while he erased his board again. He wanted to keep Burt's attention.
He won't. I tried to talk to him but when I mentioned the word sex he basically put his hands in his ears and started singing.
This time, Burt was reading the board upside down. He made sure that Blaine was looking at him, before he spoke.
"When he's ready, he'll listen"
Blaine shook his head again and started writing.
He won't and I am afraid that it might be too late. Most school do not have sex education classes. And for those who happen to have them, they won't reach the subject of what sex is for gay kids. You and Kurt have a father and son relationship that every kid wants.
After making sure that Burt was still reading the board as Blaine was writing, he erased and continued to write, spilling a little bit too much of his heart on the board.
It even makes me a little bit jealous. My dad has come to accept who I was after the fail attempt of bounding over a car. My disability was already hard on him. He cares about me, he cares for his family and he loves me, but I'll never be at ease to speak with him about boys. You have this opportunity with Kurt. I had to look for information. The Internet is great, but you really have to search for it. Kurt won't. One day, he'll be at a party and he might start fooling around with a guy after a few drinks. He's not going to know about using protection or STDs. I think it would be really cool if you took advantage of your relationship with Kurt.
When Blaine saw no reactions on Burt's face, after erasing the last piece of his speech on his board, he was worried.
Overstepping?
He simply wrote this single word before showing the whiteboard to Burt, looking at the ground once again. From the corner of his eye, he saw Burt chuckled, so Blaine raised his head, facing Burt.
"You are." Burt answered.
Blaine started to turn around until, once again, looking grim, when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"But that does not mean you're not right, kid" Burt added when Blaine made eye contact with him.
Blaine smiled shyly as a response and turned around again, raising his hand and making the universal goodbye gesture.
That evening, Burt decided, he would make a detour to a free clinic to grab some pamphlets and take a few advice. Blaine was right, he needed to speak to Kurt.
Comments
yay!
This was really good. I loved the scene between Blaine and Burt in season 2 so it was nice to see in this chapter. I can't wait to see what happens next.
