The plan was going absolutely perfectly, Rachel and Finn had been sent out as a distraction, just in case my little friend Jeff had back-up, which I presumed he would have. Rachel and Finn were being blatantly obvious, Rachel even holding the newspaper upside down, trying to lull the targets into a false sense of security. Then suddenly another guy, who had dark brown hair which was gelled down with way too much gel, went over to my blonde target and they began to talk.
I was watching from a far so I quickly said,
“Cedes, send Rachel and Finn to follow, newbie I will track my little blonde friend, maybe we can kill two birds with one stone.” I heard Mercedes voice come back to me,
Okay, Kurt, newbie is moving, Rachel and Finn are now tailing him. You okay to deal with blondie?” I smirked to myself,
“Of course, why do you even need to ask?”
When I got no reply I tightened my scarf and saw blondie beginning to head away from the square. I saw Finn and Rachel in my peripheral vision heading off after the other guy. The road they were heading down met the road I was going down a few hundred metres down so I presumed the 2 guys were planning to lose us half way down and meet at the end.
I was slowly walking along, my eyes trained on the blonde who was a short distance in front of me. Yet at the same time I tried to seem interested in looking at my surroundings, as if I was lost.
There was a sudden crackle and Artie’s voice came over the ear piece sounding urgent,
“Kurt, Rachel, Finn... warning, find something to hide behind. They aren’t as stupid as we originally thought, stampede heading towards Rachel and Finn, Kurt keep an eye out for the newbie as well, he may come towards you. Maybe try to disappear for a few minutes?” I hummed an agreement and turned down the road which would connect the two boys leaving the blonde behind me.
As I was walking along I heard someone crying hysterically and a panicked voice,
“Please, please help me, please...” I turned round and saw 2 guys, one looked really pale and his arm was bent at a weird angle. I headed over sighing. The guy who was helping the sick guy said,
“Please, will you help him, I have to go...” he didn’t even give me the chance to respond before he sprinted off in the opposite direction. I glanced at the poor guy who was now leaning against my side as I sat next to him on the cold stone steps. I took out my cell phone and groaned in annoyance as I saw it had no charge. I was about to ask the guys to call for an ambulance for me when I heard Artie’s voice,
“Kurt, the new guy, he is heading towards you. Ask him for help... something, try to bug him...” I hummed an affirmative and began to fuss over the guy who was now barely conscious.
The dark haired, new guy, who had been talking to my friend Jeff, came into my peripheral vision as he walked up the street. I turned round plastering a desperate look before putting my new plan into action.
I got up and ran over to him, glancing back at the injured guy, he looked a little startled as I grabbed his bare arm, and subsequently got the bug in place without him noticing, while saying,
“Please, can you call an ambulance, some guy just brought him and dumped him with me. I would call someone but my phone is dead. Please help me, I don’t even know who he is.”
I was quite pleased with my little act and it was clear that the guy had kind of bought it due to the fact that he looked instantly worried and whipped out his phone, his eyes still wide. He began to ramble down the phone to the emergency services down the phone while I busied myself trying to keep the poor guy conscious. The guy who had helped me in my mission so much.
The dark haired guy ended the phone call and knelt down next to me saying,
“What do you know about him?” he gestured to the man. I shook my head,
“Nothing, some guy came over pleading with me to help him. He then said something about having to leave and then hurried off. This was the last thing I honestly expected today.” The guy nodded, he seemed to be studying me quite intensely. I coughed a little and he seemed to jerk back to reality.
Thank-fully the ambulance arrived soon and so we didn’t have to bask in the awkward silence for too long. The poor guy was loaded into the back of the ambulance, the paramedics told us not to worry when I inquired about whether one of us needed to go to the hospital. As the ambulance drove off I turned to the dark haired guy and smiled graciously, trying not to grimace at the disgusting amount of gel in his hair. I said,
“Thank-you for helping me. I honestly don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t come along.” He smiled but was still studying me intensely, his eyes flickers over my face as if he was trying memorise what I looked like. He eventually replied,
“No problem, I am happy to have helped but I really must go.” I nodded and watched his retreating back as he hurried off along the road.
As I turned to head back to head quarters, I heard a cheer in my ear and Artie saying,
“Good job Kurt, the bug is working. For once it was better not to jump him, this way we can get more intel. Good job!” I chuckled a little at his praise and just shook my head as I headed back to HQ, reminding myself to charge my phone...
