Over the next month Kurt had to watch Blaine and Shane's relationship grow. They laughed and joked together. And shared light touches and kisses. They were happy with one another.
It wasn't that Kurt didn't want Blaine to be happy, he did. He just hated that it was Shane he was happy with. When Kurt and Shane dated, they had a very different relationship. Kurt had to call all the time to plan something, and even when something was planned, Shane would cancel. Blaine and Shane talked a lot but he and Kurt never did because his mouth was always locked on Kurt's. He felt like his relationship with Shane was always sexual. Nothing else.
Kurt wondered if they would still be together if Shane acted the same way he did with Blaine. What did Blaine do to make him change? He might be a little jealous. But only of the relationship not the people.
Dating Shane left Kurt heartbroken. He hadn't dated in a few years, but he might be willing to try again.
Kurt was sitting on the couch watching mindless TV when the two stumbled in. Shane was saying something Kurt couldn't hear but it was making Blaine giggle. Kurt shot them a weak smile before turning back to the show.
They joined him a few minutes later taking the other end of the couch. After a while Kurt started hearing low moans coming from the end of the couch. Kurt's eyes widened and he blushed when he saw Blaine straddling Shane's lap. He quickly looked away then slowly got up and went to his room.
He awoke with a small gasp when someone knocked on his door. He looked over to the clock on his side table. It was already 7:30. He sighed and walked to the door.
Blaine was leaning on the door frame, smiling. "Hey sleepy head. Do you want to go to dinner with me and Shane?"
"Uhm, no thanks." Kurt told him. He didn't really feel like being the third wheel tonight.
"Oh. Alright. Well could you go hang out with Shane? I have to go shower."
Kurt sighed internally. "Sure Blaine."
The walked down the hall, Blaine going to the bathroom while Kurt continued to the living room.
Shane looked up and smiled at Kurt before looking back to the TV. He took a seat at the opposite end of Shane and turned to the show. Kurt heard the shower turn on and then the couch dip. He turned to see Shane sitting right next to him, thigh pressing against thigh.
"Shane," Kurt said in a warning voice.
"What is it Kurtie?" He cooed in Kurt's ear.
"Don't call me that." He whispered, not really meaning it.
Shane started trailing his hand up Kurt's leg; it sent a shiver down his back. He missed being wanted like this. Once Shane had his hand near Kurt's groan, he moved closer to Kurt's face.
Kurt felt warm air hit his lips and his eyes fluttered closed. A few seconds later a pair of soft lips were on his. They moved together perfectly, it was warm and familiar.
Familiar. It was Shane he was kissing. Shane, who cheated on him, and Shane who only used him for sex and the same Shane who was dating his best friend.
Kurt's eyes flew open and he shoved Shane away. He stumbled back and hit the TV stand. They stared at each other and then Shane was diving back in. A crack rang throughout the apartment as Kurt's hand collided with Shane's face.
"What the hell?" Shane yelled as he clutched his face.
"You kissed me!!"
"Yea?" Shane said as a question.
What was he thinking? Shane was an idiot and Kurt just kissed him.
"What's your problem?" Kurt asked.
"Uhm nothing! I like kissing you."
He moved forward again and Kurt pushed him back. Right at that moment Blaine walked into the room.
"What's going on?" Blaine asked seeing the two men standing face to face, Kurt looking angry.
"Nothing babe." Shane said.
Kurt was dumb founded. Did he just say nothing? They kissed. That was something not nothing.
"No what happened. Your cheek is red and Kurt looks about ready to rip off your head." Blaine was very persistent.
"Nothing's wrong."
"Kurt?" Blaine asked turning to him.
Kurt didn't know what to do. He could tell Blaine, but that would be really hard. Blaine really liked Shane, but technically he cheated. But he cheated with Kurt. But Kurt didn't mean any of it. And Blaine still didn't know that he and Shane had actually dated, or the reason for their break-up.
"He - uhm, he kissed me." Kurt stumbled out.
Blaine's eyes grew wide and wet. He ran out of the room and Shane followed. Kurt took a seat on the couch. He could hear the yelling but not every word. He heard things like 'asshole' 'cheater, 'how could you'
It all made Kurt feel horrible, because at first he was okay with the kiss before he realized who it was. Everything was finally quiet and then Shane walked down the hall, hands in fists. He looked at Kurt, gave him the finger then slammed the front door.
When Blaine didn't come out of his room, Kurt walked down the hall way and lightly tapped the door. He got no response so he knocked again. Still nothing. He sighed and lightly pushed the door open.
"Blaine." He whispered
His heart broke as he saw the small figure lying on his bed, curled up in a ball with small sobs wracking his body.
"Blaine" he said again.
"Wh-what?"
"Are you okay?"
"Why - why would he do th-that?" Blaine said through sobs.
"Blaine," Kurt said, taking a seat at the end of the bed. "I uhm - I have to tell you something."
Blaine just sniffed so Kurt continued. "Shane and I, we dated. We've known each other along time." Kurt said as calmly as he could.
Blaine's head shot up and his eyes were a mixture of hurt and anger. "What?" He said his tone hard.
"We uhm we dat-" he was cut off by Blaine.
"No I heard you! Why didn't you tell me?"
"I wanted to but Shane, he didn't like the idea of you knowing ..." he trailed off.
"Of me knowing what Kurt." He hissed.
"The reason we ended it." Kurt whispered
"And why was that?" Blaine asked, obviously curious.
"He - he cheated on me..."
Blaine's face was unreadable. He stayed quiet for a few minutes before losing it. "You let me date your exboyfriend, who cheated on you and then cheated on me, with you of all people?! Seriously Kurt, were you not there when I told you I broke up with my ex because he cheated on me!? Why did you let me go through that again?"
"Blaine I'm really sorry I -" he was cut off again.
"No Kurt, just no. If you were even remotely sorry you would have told me this in the beginning! God how could I have even trusted you before?"
"Blaine please," Kurt said, trying to hold back tears. His best friend in the entire universe was yelling at him and saying he couldn't be trusted. And that broke him.
"I'm leaving," Blaine said as he got up and walked to the door. "You know what Kurt, just, fuck you. Go be happy with that asshole and stay out of my fucking life." He slammed the door. Leaving Kurt crying on the end of his bed.
Kurt stayed in Blaine's room for half an hour hoping he would come back before giving up. He knew he should have told Blaine about his relationship with Shane before. If he had, this whole mess wouldn't have happened. Now he was alone, lying in his bed, hot tears running down his face and thinking about Blaine.
Blaine who was his first kiss. His first real date, his first love. Blaine was everything to Kurt and now Blaine didn't even trust him. He didn't know how he was going to fix this.
