I reached the shop right when Billy, the delivery man, pulled off at the side of the pavement. "Hey Kurt! Good to see you!" He unloaded the stacks of flowers at the usual spot at the end of the platform, while I held the door open for him, "good to see you too, Billy, how's Marge?"
"Doing fine! She wanted to ask what colour do you think would suit her best, she's knitting a scarf."
"Violet goes well with her eyes."
"Her favourite colour, she'll be so happy when I tell her that." The warm smile of his face made me feel awkwardly young, and shy. He patted me on my back and left the store for his next delivery, promising to tell his wife about the colour.
Being alone in The Mirth was easier than I thought it would be. I braved myself to put Novaes's Chopin on the turntable, allowing the symphony echoing the room; it was lonely, with the city as quiet as it can be at five in the morning. The sun was still at rest, with only the faint streetlight shallowing through the glass, it was lonely.
But it was also a realisation. Of life moving on, of the happiness I had with Grammie. And nothing can take that away.
She had a great life, happy with what she had and took life at its best, Grammie had little regrets. That's more than anyone could ask for. And I'm not going to cry over it, because there was nothing to mourn.
The morning was fairly busy. A new customer was going to pick up his bouquet for his fifieth anniversary, Mr. Jonathan will stop by at twelve to pick up his daily bouquet for Mrs. Jonathan, a boy named Lucas requested yesterday for a special designed bouquet to be picked up by his crush (‘Um, is it okay if I pay for a bouquet of lily for someone to pick it up?' ‘Sure, can I have the person's name?' ‘Daniel. Can I have a card to leave a message as well? I'm going to ask him out for a date.').
Kurt was just handing Mr. Donovan's bouquet when Rachel stepped in.
"That's such a beautiful design! For someone special?" She winked at the old man, even they had never met before, it was somewhat inappropriate for a first and utterly unromantic encounter.
But the kind man smiled and replied, "yes. It's my fiftieth anniversary with my wife today, she's my first love."
Rachel and I practically melted on the floor, it was too romantic, too beautiful; Mr. Donovan thanked me again after we congratulated him, and left the store. I felt like watching a miracle, and I'm not even going to deny how envious I am. I wish one day, there will be something that would swoop me off my feet and become my eternity.
We stood in comfortable silence until Rachel remembered the reason she visited, "Kurt, I know you skipped breakfast today. Here, take this." She presented a traveller's mug and a packet of granola bar and entered the counter, "I know it's not much, but it will tide you over until lunch. Do you want me to bring you anything or are you ordering in?"
"It's fine, I'm not hungry. I'll shut down for an hour after the flowers were collected."
"Okay. But text me if you are hungry and can't leave the shop."
I made a sound as a reply while I try to torn off the packet with my teeth, not bothered to continue the conversation further. Kurt Hummel will not call his friend and worry her because he's missing lunch, it's just outright ridiculous.
Her face was showing that she was contemplating on something, but I paid no notice. You'll know what to care and what not to care, when your best friend was ninety percent crazy almost ninety percent of the time you knew her, and now, Rachel Berry is putting on an insane face. It would be best to intervene after I finish my food.
"Whatever you're thinking, I don't want to know." I gulped the last bit of the granola bar and sipped my coffee, Rachel was still having that weird face. What the hell is she actually thinking? And would I want to know?
When she finally spoke up, the flowers were already sprayed on and I was upstairs tidying up the mess that was made due to the arrangements. Finn and I converted the spacious second floor into a workplace, moved the stock of soil and the arrangement table that used to situate at the middle of the room upstairs, the third floor was kept just as it was.
"Are you----how are you feeling, Kurt?"
I closed my eyes, willing the lingering pain at my left chest to go away, it still hurts even I'm not sad. She sat down at the staircase, two steps in front of me and turned around, "Rachel, I'm fine. I'm dealing with the loss, but other than that, I'm happy for Grammie having an amazing life."
"How was last night?"
"It was...okay. I couldn't sleep at first, but I talked to my neighbour and relaxed a bit." I shrugged, trying to keep things light.
But of course, it's Rachel Barbara Berry I was talking to, nothing I said would be under the radar, "Oh...the Sinatra neighbor?"
"Yes." "He cute?" "Why would you assume it's a him?" "We had this conversation last night, Kurt. Don't make me sound like a broken record." I rolled my eyes and stepped down the stairs, she hurried along after me and asked, "come on, spill. Is he cute?"
I busied myself by arranging the flowers at the new desk of the middle of the shop, avoiding Rachel's playful poke, giggling like a schoolgirl. "Oh my god! Stop!"
"Tell me, then I'll stop." "No, stop! Seriously, Rachel! I'm going to drop this if you keep on doing it!" "Just tell me already then."
The soft footsteps were too light that it went unnoticed under our loud interrogation activity, it wasn't until I was turning around to catch Rachel's index finger that I noticed someone was standing at the door frame. Blaine. "Hey."
It should be a disaster and I should be freaking out, but I'm not, the sight of him already took my breath away. I couldn't careless about Rachel being here and him seeing us having a poke fight.
"Um, am I interupting something?" He was a little uncertain, peering through his glasses, "I can come back later?"
"Oh no! Not at all! You're the Sinatra neighbour, right? I'm just his straight high school friend that sometimes also act like his grandma and force him to have breakfast----shit." Rachel was babbling until she realised what she said and clapsed a hand over her mouth, "I'm so sorry, Kurt---"
I smiled and shook my head, "It's fine. I'm fine, okay? And I think it's time for you to head out now, my fair lady." She kissed my cheek, mumbling an apology when she hugged me, and left.
Blaine witnessed the event without saying anything, but headed over with a brown paper bag in his hand, "So you've already eaten?"
Oh, so that's why he's so quiet. "Hardly." I said, "just a granola bar."
"Well, glad to know that you'll still be up for a breakfast." He handed over the paper bag, and leaned against the other side of the table. I opened the bag, and found the bagel from the bakery I fell in love with since freshman year. It melted a little of my heart and the warmth spread through my veins.
"How did you----"
That's when Blaine beamed, bursting with joy, "Well, I do know people from NYU and they said there's this one popular bakery that most people liked, I stopped by there on my way here. I'm glad you liked it."
His eyes were fond, with a hint of sincerity, and I was lost in the haze of whiskey. There's something about Blaine that I couldn't name, that attracts me to him, like a magnetic force.
So I leant in, and kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you." And he blushed and smiled. "You're welcome."
If this man is the one to swoop me off my feet and become my forever, it was totally worth the wait.

Comments
This chapter was awesome. I loved the interaction between Rachel and Kurt and thought it was really nice that she was trying to make sure that he was ok and taking care of himself. I also really enjoyed when Blaine showed up because it was so sweet how he was a little nervous but also really happy that he was able to bring Kurt something that he really liked. The kiss on the cheek was pretty awesome as well. I can't wait to read the next chapter and see what happens next for Kurt and Blaine.
Thank you again! It'll be up soon! I promise! NaNoWriMo dominates most of my writing time and I'm still catching up on studies, but it'll be up soon :)
